The Nationals have signed infielder Pete Orr to a minor league contract.
Orr spent much of last season in Triple-A, and likely will next year as well, but he'll have a chance to make the club out of spring training. In 75 at-bats last season he hit .253 with one homer and ten RBI.
Pete Orr hit his first home run of the season in the Nationals 7-2 win over the Marlins on Sunday. The two-run shot came off of Chris Volstad in the third inning.
This is a nice achievement for Orr, but despite his .326 average he doesn't play enough to be considered fantasy relevant.
Pete Orr went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Monday's 3-1 loss at San Diego. Both of his knocks were singles.
The Nationals had eight hits in the game, and Orr was their lone source of scoring. Orr racked up eight hits and two RBI over 15 at-bats so far, and should earn more playing time if he continues to swing a hot stick.
The Washington Nationals have recalled infielder Pete Orr from Triple-A Syracuse, according to MLB.com. Orr will replace the injured Nyjer Morgan on the roster.
Orr hit .245 in 120 games with Syracuse this season, and he shouldn't see much playing time with numbers like that in the minors. He did steal 18 bases, so he could do some running for the Nats, but other than that he doesn't figure to contribute much.
