Newsbreakers

September 22, 2009

MLBlogs.com reports that Marlins catcher John Baker left Tuesday's game against the Phillies in the sixth inning with a bruised left hand.

Our View:

Baker was accidentally hit in the face by Ryan Howard's glove while running to first. He put his hand up to block it and suffered the bruise. X-rays were negative though and he is considered day-to-day. He was replaced by Ronny Paulino.

September 4, 2009

John Baker had a big night for the Marlins on Friday in their 9-6 win over the Nationals. Baker went 3-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and four RBI in the win.

Our View:

Baker has been dealing with some back soreness as of late, but he has fought through it to have some nice performances over the last week. With the lack of depth at the catching position in fantasy baseball, Baker is worth a look as long as he is healthy.

August 30, 2009

John Baker went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the Marlins' 6-4 win over the Padres on Sunday.

Our View:

Baker started ofthe scoring in the team's five-run fourth inning, and the pitching held strong the rest of the game to get the Marlins a win. It was nice to see Baker producing after he missed some time this week to to back soreness, but he looked healthy today.

August 27, 2009

According to the Palm Beach Post, John Baker (stiff back) is hopefully he can return to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Our View:

Baker left Tuesday's game with stiffness and then sat out Wednesday's, but appears to be feeling much better. Baker states that he felt pain in his back two weeks ago, but it didn't flare up until Tuesday. The team is being cautious with him, but he looks like a good bet to play Thursday.

July 3, 2009

John Baker was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Marlins' 7-4 loss to the Pirates on Friday night.

Our View:

Baker is only hitting .246 this season, but is a decent fantasy option at catcher due to his seven homers and 23 RBI.
