Newsbreakers

October 20, 2009

Howie Kendrick won't start Game 5 of the ALCS against the Yankees, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:

Kendrick will ride the pine against opposing right-handed hurler A.J. Burnett. He is starting tonight's Game 4 against lefty CC Sabathia.

October 19, 2009

Howie Kendrick scored the game-winning run for the Angels on Monday in their 5-4 extra-innings win over the Yankees in Game 3 of the ALCS. Kendrick was 3-for-5 in the game with a homer, a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI.

Our View:

Kendrick scored on a double by catcher Jeff Mathis in the bottom of the 11th to keep the Angels in the series tonight. He replaced Maicer Izturis at second base tonight, and he made his manager look very intelligent with his performance.

October 18, 2009

In an effort to spark their offense, the Angels have decided to shake up their lineup for Game 3 against the Yankees, according to MLB.com. Howie Kendrick will start at second base in place of Maicer Izturis against starter Andy Pettitte.

Our View:

Izturis made the big error to allow the Yanks to win in Game 2, but this move seems to be motivated more by offense. Kendrick has had his ups and downs this season, but he provides much more of an offensive threat for the Halos than Izturis would.

September 26, 2009

Howie Kendrick went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Athletics at Angel Stadium.

Our View:

The Angels only had five hits in the loss, and Kendrick's knock was the only one for extra bases. Kendrick was 0-for-8 over his previous three games.

September 20, 2009

Howie Kendrick homered and tripled on Sunday, driving in five runs in the process, as Anaheim won 10-5 in Texas.

Our View:

Kendrick is now batting .302 with ten home runs and 60 RBI on the season, finally fulfilling some of his seemingly limitless fantasy potential. Still only 26 years old, he will be a top-flight option at second base in 2010.

September 17, 2009

Howie Kendrick went 3-for-4 with a home run and the game-winning single on Thursday, as Los Angeles rallied to beat the Red Sox 4-3 in Boston.

Our View:

Kendrick is now batting .298 with eight home runs, 55 RBI and nine steals. He will be a top-shelf option at second base in AL-only leagues in 2010.

August 19, 2009

Howie Kendrick helped lead the Angels in tonight's 3-0 win at Cleveland, as he went 1-for-4 with a single and two RBI.

Our View:

Kendrick has a hit in three straight games, and is now batting .300 this month. He has seven RBI over his last five games as well.

August 12, 2009

Howie Kendrick went 2-for-3 and smashed a three-run homer in a five-run seventh inning during the Angels' 10-5 win over the Rays Wednesday.

Our View:

Kendrick was red hot in July, hitting .387, but has tapered off considerably. Wednesday marked just his second multi-hit game this month and the three-run homer tripled his August RBI production.

July 29, 2009

Howie Kendrick carried the Angels offensively in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Indians, as he went 3-for-4 with five RBI. He hit two singles and a two-run homer off Tony Sipp.

Our View:

Kendrick was hitless over his last two games, and got himself back on track with today's strong performance. He is batting .377 in July.

July 4, 2009

According to TSN.ca, the Angels have recalled infielder Howie Kendrick from Triple-A Salt Lake. In a corresponding move, the team optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez.

Our View:

Kendrick has been hitting the ball well in Triple-A, with a .346 average and 11 RBI in 20 games. The team feels like he is ready to come back, and hopefully he has gotten himself back on track. It might be worth it to take a flier on him if you need a middle infielder, as he still has the potential to be very good.

June 13, 2009

Howie Kendrick has been optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels, according to TSN. Infielder Sean Rodriguez was recalled as the adjoining move.

Our View:

Kendrick is only hitting .231 this season, and the Angels sent him down to work on his swing. His fantasy stock was low prior to his demotion.

June 3, 2009

According to the LA Times, Angels' manager Mike Scioscia has considered sending struggling second baseman Howie Kendrick down to the minors.

Our View:

Kendrick, who hit .193 in May, is batting just .227 with a meager .267 on base percentage. The talented second baseman has looked lost at the plate, has struggled in the field and has made costly mistakes on the base paths. The Angels appear to be losing patience with him and think a trip to Triple-A could get him back on track.

May 24, 2009

Howie Kendrick was a late scratch Sunday for the Angels, according to MLBlogs.com. He will be replaced by Robb Quinlan, who will play third while Chone Figgins shifts to second.

Our View:

Kendrick's hamstring started acting up during the pregame today, so it was best that he got scratched. The injury doesn't seem too serious, but hamstrings are tricky so it's hard to tell how long he will be out. The most likely scenario is that he will be back soon.

May 9, 2009

Howie Kendrick was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Friday's 4-1 win over the Royals.

Our View:

Kendrick has started slow this season, and for a man known for his ability to hit for average is slogging along hitting just .255. He has showed more power than expected though with four homers and 19 RBI this season.

April 30, 2009

Howie Kendrick was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, a walk, and a run scored in the Angels 7-4 loss to the Angels on Thursday.

Our View:

Kendrick had just one steal entering tonight, but he does have above average speed. He clearly had a good read on A.J. Burnett and Jorge Posada tonight.

April 26, 2009

Howie Kendrick was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI on Sunday in the Angels' 8-0 win over the Mariners.

Our View:

Kendrick is off to a slow start this season, but has been good with runners on. He was only hitting .230 coming into Sunday's game but has already driven in 14 on the year. The average will rise eventually.

April 12, 2009

Howie Kendrick was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 5-4 win over Boston.

Our View:

Kendrick continues to hit in between Chone Figgins and Vladimir Guerrero and he should, as always, produce solid numbers as long as he is healthy. He makes a lot of good contact and should challenge .300 this season.

April 6, 2009

Howie Kendrick was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the Angels beat the A's 3-0 on Monday. He also committed an error while manning second base for Los Angeles.

Our View:

Kendrick makes the type of contact that inspires some to say that he will compete for a batting title. However, before getting too wrapped up in his bat, make sure you note his erratic bill of health. He certainly has an extremely high ceiling but he will need a number of healthy seasons if he ever hopes to reach it.

March 12, 2009

Howie Kendrick went 2-for-3 with a run, two doubles and a stolen base against Colorado on Thursday.

Our View:

Kendrick has come out on fire this spring, having collected a hit in each of his five games, going 7-for-14 over the span. He also has legit speed, as the stolen base would indicate, and has potential to reach 20 stolen bases with a full season's workload if he can remain healthy.

March 6, 2009

Howie Kendrick had a hit and a run scored Friday in the Angels' 5-4 win over the Giants.

Our View:

Kendrick is almost a lock to hit .300, but it's his inability to stay healthy for any length of time that continues to make selecting him on draft day a risky proposition.

March 5, 2009

Howie Kendrick had a nice day Thursday going 2-for-3 and hitting his first homer of the spring.

Our View:

Kendrick's name has been tossed around a lot lately, but if he stays put in LA at second he is a productive fantasy option. Health was a concern last year, but he seems to be fully recovered.
