Newsbreakers

October 4, 2009

Eric Patterson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in the A's 5-3 loss to the Angels on the regular season's final day.

Our View:

Patterson was fantastic in the minors this year, and looks to be a promising talent, but didn't see much action at the major league level in 2009. Still, when he got regular playing time in September he hit .362.

September 23, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that A's prospect Eric Patterson will see significant playing time down the stretch for the A's. With the injury to Scott Hairston, Patterson will get a chance to prove he belongs with the big club.

Our View:

Patterson has struggled with the A's this season, but he was one of the better players in the entire Pacific Coast League this the minors this season. He likely has a future with the team, but he will have to prove he can handle himself against major league competition.

August 28, 2009

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the A's have recalled outfielder Eric Patterson from Triple-A.

Our View:

Patterson did not perform well in his brief two-week stint with the A's earlier this season (.167/.161/.200). He likely won't see much time and holds no fantasy value.

August 5, 2009

Eric Patterson has been sent down to Triple-A Sacramento to make room for pitcher Chad Reineke on the A's roster, according to TSN.

Our View:

Patterson has some speed and power, but did not help fantasy owners with no homers and one stolen base over 30 at-bats in Oakland this season. He currently has no value while working on his skills in the minors.

July 24, 2009

Eric Patterson has been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take the roster spot of Matt Holliday.

Our View:

Of course Patterson shouldn't be expected to replace Matt Holliday, but he has been putting up robust numbers in Sacramento. In 90 games, he is batting .326 with a healthy .392 on-base percentage. So even if he has trouble hitting major league pitching (he's a career .192 hitter in 146 MLB at-bats), he'll at least get on base, which is the end-all, be-all in Oakland. Definitely worth a look in AL-only leagues.

May 4, 2009

Eric Patterson has been sent down by the A's to Triple-A Sacramento, according to MLB.com. Patterson had been recalled less than a week ago.

Our View:

Patterson did not impress in his short stint with the big club, and now he finds himself back in Sacramento. He was only hitting .125 in his two games, so no fantasy impact with this move.

April 30, 2009

Eric Patterson has been recalled by the A's from Triple-A Sacramento, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

The 26-year-old was recalled as the A's need infield depth with Mark Ellis and Nomar Garciaparra on the DL. Patterson has some speed, but is a career .196 hitter, and should not be considered outside of deeper AL-only leagues.

March 10, 2009

Eric Patterson drove in a pair of runs with two hits in four at-bats Tuesday against Colorado.

Our View:

Patterson has limited experience at the major league level, having played in 50 games over two seasons, and he's working to earn a utility-type role with the A's this spring. Should he come away with the job, he could swipe enough bags to have value in AL-only play.
