Newsbreakers

July 29, 2009

Alfredo Simon has been transferred from the 15 to the 60-day DL, according to TSN.

Our View:

Simon underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, and is done for the remainder of the 2009 campaign, and potentially half of next season as well.

April 22, 2009

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Alfredo Simon will undergo season ending elbow surgery in the near future. He met with Dr. James Andrews and decided that surgery was necessary.

Our View:

Simon wasn't very good in his brief stint in the Orioles' rotation, and it is unfortunate for him that he will be out for 2009. He won a spot in the rotation, but will have to do it again next season if he can't make it back before then.

April 15, 2009

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have placed Alfredo Simon on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow pain.

Our View:

Simon has struggled mightily thus far in 2009, compiling a 9.95 ERA in his two starts. Hopefully it was because his elbow wasn;t right, but either way he is not much of a fantasy option when he comes back.

April 14, 2009

Alfredo Simon left Tuesday's start in the second inning due to an undisclosed injury.

Our View:

Simon was roughed up in his first start and was getting knocked around in Tuesday's as well when the injury forced him out. It remains unclear whether the injury had anything to do with his struggles.

April 9, 2009

Alfredo Simon had a rough go of it Thursday against the Yankees. He surrendered four runs and four hits in five innings to take the loss in Baltimore's 11-2 defeat.

Our View:

Simon, who made all of four appearances in 2008, also walked two batters and struck out three. His undoing was a three-run New York fourth inning, in which he allowed three of his four runs.
