ESPN Chicago reports that the Cubs have activated infielder Andres Blanco from the 15-day disabled list.
Blanco has recovered from a strained calf after a 20-day Triple-A rehab assignment. He hit .304 with six homers and 29 RBI in 64 games overall with Triple-A Iowa, but batted just .237 with nine RBI for the Cubs this season. Still he's a versatile utility player off the bench.
The Chicago Cubs have placed infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day DL with a strained calf, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Blanco will be replaced on the roster by Tom Gorzelanny.
Blanco has mostly been a guy coming off the bench for the Cubbies this season, but he is a nice utility player who provides a spark off the bench. The Cubs should be fine without him, but they will welcome him back when he is healthy.
Andres Blanco played a major role in the Cubs' 6-5 extra inning win over the Indians on Saturday. Blanco drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the 13th inning and then scored the game winning run on a wild pitch.
Blanco didn't do much else today, but it really doesn't matter when you are responsible for the tying and winning runs. Blanco is not much of a fantasy option, but the Cubs couldn't have won without him today.
Andres Blanco has been recalled by the Cubs from Triple-A Iowa, according to ESPN.
Blanco was hitting .314 in Triple-A prior to being recalled, and will see time at shortstop with Chicago to spell Ryan Theriot. He may not see enough at-bats to be useful for fantasy leagues though.
