Eric Bruntlett has been removed from the Phillies' 40-man roster, making him a free agent, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's David Murphy.
Could it be the end of his major league career, as well? Bruntlett his just .202 in 312 at-bats the past two seasons, and at age 31, it's hard to imagine where the interest for him would come from.
The Philadelphia Daily News reports that utility man Eric Bruntlett has been added to the NLCS roster.
Bruntlett is anemic offensively, so he'll likely be used as a late-inning defensive replacement. He hit just .171 with zero homers and seven RBI in limited time this season.
Eric Bruntlett was not named to the Phillies' divisional series roster, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's David Murphy.
Bruntlett made the Phillies' postseason roster a year ago, but played sparingly. He did homer in game two of the World Series, however. He is a versatile defensive player, but hit only .171 in 101 at-bats this season.
Eric Bruntlett became a part of baseball history on Sunday afternoon. Filling in for Chase Utley at second base, he caught a screaming liner from Jeff Francoeur in the ninth inning after the Mets set their runners in motion. He then stepped on second base to force out Luis Castillo before tagging out a marooned David Murphy to complete the historic play. It was only the 15th unassisted triple play in major league history.
Bruntlett also went 3-for-5, it what may be the greatest one day subbing of all time. Bench Utley!
