Newsbreakers

August 21, 2009

The Detroit News reports that Joel Zumaya underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone chip from his shoulder on Friday.

Our View:

Dr. James Andrews wielded the scalpel and cleaned up Zumaya's labrum and rotator cuff. His season is over, but he expects to be 100 percent healthy and ready to go for 2010 Spring Training. We'll have to see it to believe it.

August 17, 2009

Joel Zumaya has been transferred to the 60-day DL, according to TSN.

Our View:

He is slated to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery later this week. Dr. James Andrews will perform the procedure.

August 12, 2009

According to MLBlogs.com, Tigers' reliever Joel Zumaya is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery on August 21st.

Our View:

Dr. James Andrews is slated to wield the knife and the surgery will end Zumaya's season. He's been all hype and disappointment with no positive results since the infamous Guitar Hero injury.

July 30, 2009

According to the Twitter page of Tigers' beat writer Jason Beck, relief pitcher Joel Zumaya is scheduled to have surgery on his shoulder next month. Zumaya will miss the remainder of the 2009 season.

Our View:

After meeting with Dr. Andrews today, both sides decided that it would be in Zumaya's best interest to have surgery this season. This is a blow to the Tigers, but with his injury history it should come as no surprise to fantasy owners. He should obviously be dropped by anyone who is still employing him on their fantasy team.

July 29, 2009

Joel Zumaya will visit Dr. James Andrews Thursday for an exam on his injured right shoulder, according to MLive.com.

Our View:

Zumaya has been plagued by shoulder issues, and surgery is a possibility. He is still battling soreness even after receiving two cortisone shots.
