Newsbreakers

March 16, 2010

Brandon Wood went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

Our View:

Wood is the leading candidate to fill the void at third base left by Chone Figgins. He's hitting an even .300 this spring and, avoiding a total collapse, one would think the job is his. The highly touted prospect has struggled in his brief stints in the majors the last three seasons though.

December 9, 2009

Skipper Mike Scioscia stated that Brandon Wood looks to be the top candidate at third base for 2010 as of now, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Wood would be replacing Chone Figgins, who inked a deal with Seattle. Scioscia wants to give Wood every opportunity to display his talent and prove he is ready for a full-time role with the Angels. Wood namely has great power potential, and his fantasy stock looks to be pointed up for next season.

September 1, 2009

Brandon Wood has been recalled by the Angels from Triple-A Salt Lake, according to TSN.

Our View:

Wood has great power potential, but only hit .154 with one homer over 26 at-bats with the Angels this season. The 24-year-old corner infielder is still worth holding as a flier for AL-only leagues in case he makes some noise down the stretch.

July 31, 2009

Brandon Wood has been optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room for Sean Rodriguez on the roster, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Wood failed to impress the Angels with an anemic .154 average and 10 strikeouts over 26 at-bats, but the future slugger could be brought back later in the season. He is worth holding in deeper fantasy leagues.

July 14, 2009

The Boston Globe is reporting that Angels' infielder Brandon Wood would be required in any deal for Blue Jays' ace Roy Halladay. Wood was hitting .313 in Triple-A before being called up by the Angels before the break.

Our View:

Wood is one of the more highly regarded infield prospects in the game that is considered MLB ready right now. The Angels love him, but they will have to decide if it would be worth it to give him up, along with others, for Halladay.
