Joel Hanrahan has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Hanrahan has struggled mightily in 2009, but could benefit from a fresh start in Pittsburgh. He is not a candidate to get saves, however, with Matt Capps firmly entrenched in Pittsburgh's closer role.
The Washington Post is reporting that the Nationals have removed Joel Hanrahan from the closer's role and replaced him with Mike MacDougal. Hanrahan gave up two runs on Friday night in the tenth inning to fall to 0-3 on the year with a 6.84 ERA.
The Nationals are still playing musical closers, and now the duty falls on the shoulders of Mike MacDougal. Don't expect him to hold onto the job either, but Hanrahan has now had the closer's job twice this season and lost it both times. Don't expect him to get another opportunity.
Joel Hanrahan earned his fourth save of the season in Thursday's 5-4 win over Pittsburgh. He allowed one hit and struck out two in his one inning of work.
Hanrahan has been in and out as the Nationals' closer this season, but with more appearances like this he shouldn't have any trouble keeping his job.
Joel Hanrahan entered the ninth inning of Monday night's loss to the Pirates trailing 9-6. He allowed two hits, two walks, and three earned runs, while striking out two in the non-save situation.
Ugh. Hanrahan had just been given a vote of confidence by his manager Manny Acta and he went out and had another awful outing. Granted, it was not a save situation, but another outing like this and we may see another rotation of poor relievers getting save opportunities.
The AP reports that manager Manny Acta has confirmed that Joel Hanrahan has regained the closer's role.
Hanrahan is a sketchy option to rely on, but he should be able to stumble his way to 15-20 saves this season. His ERA and WHIP do not figure to impress, but he will be able to produce some decent numbers in a valuable category for his owners.
According to MLB.com, Joel Hanrahan is getting another shot at closing games.
The Nationals' bullpen has been awful and Manny Acta has gone back to the drawing board. Hanrahan has pitched well lately, but still has a bloated 6.28 ERA. Still he fans better than a batter per inning, and if Acta keeps his promise Hanrahan instantly has value once again.
Joel Hanrahan has lost his job as the Nationals' closer, according to MLBblogs.com.
Julian Tavarez and Kip Wells will share the closer's role for now. Joe Beimel will likely take over the job when he returns from the DL next week. Hanrahan only nailed down two saves, and allowed eight earned runs and five walks over 8.1 innings of work.
Joel Hanrahan blew his third save of the season in Monday's 13-11 loss to the Phillies. He recorded just one out while allowing one hit, a home run, two walks, and three earned runs.
We have to wonder how much longer Hanrahan will hold onto his job in Washington. He has seen plenty of chances in the early going, but he has only two saves to show for it. Garrett Mock may be his stiffest competition, but he also gave up three runs tonight.
Joel Hanrahan allowed a hit and a walk while picking up his second save of the season in the Nationals 4-3 win on Tuesday.
Hanrahan has been on thin ice of late as he blew his first two save oppotunities and the Nationals have called up closer-in-waiting Garrett Mock. However, it appears Manny Acta will continue to go to him in the ninth inning for now.
Joel Hanrahan picked up his first save of the season after blowing his first two opportunities, issuing one walk while striking out one to preserve Washington's 3-2 victory over Atlanta on Monday.
Hanrahan is on thin ice, especially after potential closer Garrett Mock and several other relievers were called up by the Nationals in the past day, though it was nice to see manager Manny Acta hand Hanrahan the ball yet again in the ninth and for Hanrahan to finally deliver. While one or two more rough outings could cost Hanrahan a closing job, he'll no doubt be handed the ball in the ninth the next time Washington has a tight lead.
Closer Joel Hanrahan blew a save chance against the Marlins on Friday night. He allowed a double, a homer, and one run after coming into a 2-1 game. It was the second time in four outings that Hanrahan gave up a run.
The Nats have only had two save chances all season, and the club is now 1-8. Lucky for Hanrahan, the Nationals don't have a lot of other options for the ninth inning, and they have bigger issues than him right now.
Joel Hanrahan picked up his first save of spring training against Houston on Friday, striking out two in one perfect inning.
Hanrahan has the closer's job locked up in Washington and could be a nice provider of cheap saves late in drafts with the upside of a season like Brian Wilson's last year.
