ESPN is reporting that the Yankees have added relief pitcher Brian Bruney to their World Series roster. Bruney will take the spot of reserve catcher Francisco Cervelli.
Our View:
Bruney was having an excellent season for the Yankees before being injured early on, and he never fully bounced back after returning. He finished the year with a 3.92 ERA in 39 innings pitched, and he managed to strike out 36 in that time. He will add some more depth to the bullpen for the Yanks.

According to the New York Daily News, Yankees' relever Brian Bruney has smoothed over his argument with Mets' closer Francisco Rodriguez by sending a clubhouse attendant to apologize. Bruney and K-Rod had to be seperated before a game in the last Subway Series.
Our View:
Bruney had been running his mouth about K-Rod, and apparently neither pitcher is too fond of the other. With another series between the two coming up, it looks like Bruney has made amends with the Mets' closer. Don't expect any fireworks before these games between the two.

Our View:
The Yankees will be pleased to get Bruney back in their bullpen as he holds a solid 0.56 WHIP. But he only holds fantasy value in deeper leagues that feature middle men.

The New York Times reports that reliever Brian Bruney apologized on Sunday for degrading comments made towards Francisco Rodriguez earlier in the weekend. Bruney and Rodriguez had to be separated in the outfield prior to Sunday's game.
Our View:
Bruney is clearly not a fan of K-Rod's, but his lack of a track record suggests that he shouldn't really be saying anything about the Mets closer. It is good to see him step up and apologize for calling K-Rod a "tired act." Once healthy, Bruney could factor into the Yankees bullpen as a possible setup option for Mariano Rivera.

According to the New York Daily News, Yankees' reliever Brian Bruney is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment in Double-A Trenton on Saturday. Bruney is expected to rejoin the team next week barring any setbacks.
Our View:
Bruney should throw an inning today, and if all goes well he should be back in the Yanks' pen later this week. He will be a nice added piece to the Yankees' bullpen, and leagues that count holds should give him a hard look.

Newsday is reporting that Yankees' pitcher Brian Bruney threw 25 pitches to live hitters on Thursday and felt no pain. "I pretty much let those pitches go as much as I could for not being in a game," Bruney said. "That's all I got right there so I thought I looked pretty good. Threw the pitches where I wanted to." Bruney is expected to begin his rehab assignment either Friday or Saturday.
Our View:
Bruney seems to be recovering nicely, and he has not reported any problems since he started throwing again. If he starts his rehab assignment this weekend, he could be back with the team at some point next week. Bruney has been one of the best Yankee relievers this season when healthy, so the team could really use him back in the bullpen. He could be a nice option in leagues that count holds when he returns.

Bruney has been solid for the Yankees in 2009, compiling a 3.00 ERA and 13-2 strikeouts to walks ratio. He is not a viable fantasy option in any format, however.

Our View:
This is another step in the right direction for Bruney, who threw a 30-pitch session on Sunday and reported no pain. Assuming he continues to progress, he should be back in the Yankees' bullpen in the next few weeks. He still has a ways to go, but all news is encouraging at this point.

Brian Bruney, who has been recovering from a strained right elbow, felt fine after throwing a bullpen session Sunday, according to MLB.com. Bruney threw 15 pitches, took a four-minute break, then fired another 15. Bruney threw mostly all fastballs and he said, "It went excellent - no pain. It was a huge positive step for us."
Our View:
His arm strength has not fully returned, but his pitching speed is fine. This is encouraging news, but there remains no set timetable for his return to the Yankees' bullpen.

Bruney felt good after his 20-pitch session on Friday and says he'll be back with the team in less than two weeks. The Yanks' bullpen will get a nice boost when he returns, assuming he can stay healthy.

Our View:
There's a good chance that he returns to the eighth inning role that he held prior to the injury. As long as he is healthy, he could be a factor in fantasy leagues that reward holds.

The AP reports that pitcher Brian Bruney is blaming an eight and a half minute video review of an April 19 home run for a strained flexor muscle in his elbow that landed him on the DL on April 25. Bruney had been warming up prior to the review and entered the game following it's conclusion. He fired several verbal shots at MLB and the umpires in his statement.
Our View:
Sounds like someone is looking for an excuse. Bruney could return to the Yankees bullpen any day now, but if an eight minute delay is going to cause him to land on the DL for a month than he's probably too fragile to roster on your squad.

Bruney has been very effective this season with 12 Ks in just eight innings and an impressive 0.62 WHIP. The Yanks' pen would get a big boost if he could return on schedule. As a middle reliever he has little to no fantasy value though.

Bruney has been one of the better relievers for the Yankees in the early going. He had already picked up two wins while posting a 3.38 ERA and 0.63 WHIP. He also had 12 strikeouts against just two walks in eight innings of work.
