Newsbreakers

July 24, 2009

Fred Lewis went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in tonight's 3-1 win at Colorado. He hit a single, double and a triple.

Our View:

Lewis was in need of a solid performance, as he was hitting .167 over 24 at-bats this month heading into tonight's game. He is only an option for deeper fantasy leagues.

June 20, 2009

Fred Lewis led the Giants in Friday's 6-4 win over the Rangers at AT&T Park, as he went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer off Scott Feldman.

Our View:

Lewis ended a 16-game drought without a homer, and now has four for the season. He also snapped a 12-game skid without an RBI.

May 13, 2009

Fred Lewis sat out Tuesday's game while nursing a toe injury, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He was available to pinch-hit if needed.

Our View:

The Giants did not disclose if he will return to the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. He is hitting .286 with a .390 OBP, but is yet to launch a homer and only swiped two bases. His 36 strikeouts over 105 at-bats are hurting fantasy owners as well.

May 2, 2009

Outfielder Fred Lewis has been dropped out of the leadoff spot and will now hit sixth in the order, the San Francisco Chronicle confirms. Randy Winn will be the new leadoff hitter.

Our View:

Lewis is hitting .300 and has a .417 OBP, but he has hit only .129 (4-for-31) in the top spot and is striking out way too much. This move will hurt Lewis' run potential and give a little boost to Winn.

April 26, 2009

Outfielder Fred Lewis will get the day off on Sunday against the Diamondbacks, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Randy Winn slides over to left field and will bat leadoff, and Nate Schierholtz will get his first start of the year.

Our View:

Nothing against Mr. Lewis, but it's about time that the Giants gave Schierholtz a start. The Giants still envision Nate as a future starter, but he continues to be blocked by Lewis, Winn, and Aaron Rowand.
