Newsbreakers

September 27, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez is still winless as a member of the Oakland A's after getting knocked around by the Angels on Sunday. He surrendered five runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings in the 7-4 loss.

Our View:

Gonzalez is 0-4 on the season and he has allowed 12 runs over 12.1 innings since rejoining the rotation on September 15th.

September 22, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez was rocked for six runs (five earned) on nine hits over 3.1 innings in Monday's 10-3 loss to the Rangers at McAfee Coliseum. He had two walks with three strikeouts.

Our View:

Gonzalez had another poor performance, and remains winless over his five starts.

September 15, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez allowed one earned run on four hits over four innings in Tuesday's 6-1 win at Texas. He had two walks with one strikeout.

Our View:

Gonzalez only worked four innings, so he ends the night with a no-decision. He only allowed one earned run over five innings in his previous spot-start against Kansas City this month as well.

September 2, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez only issued one earned run on three hits over five innings in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Royals at McAfee Coliseum. He had one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:

Gonzalez fared well tonight, but had to settle for a no-decision due to a lack of run support from his teammates. He trimmed his ERA to 4.91 while making his first start since May 29.

May 29, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks over just five innings on Friday. He took the loss and fell to 0-1 on the season as the Rangers swept a doubleheader with a 5-2 win.

Our View:

Gonzalez was good in his season debut, but Friday's start was another story. He's took risky to be considered anywhere but deep AL-only leagues at this point in his career.

May 20, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez is slated to start Saturday's game against Arizona, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

Gonzalez was 3-2 with a 5.22 ERA with Triple-A Sacramento, and is only worth consideration for deeper AL-only leagues for his start against his former team this weekend. He replaces the struggling Sean Gallagher in the rotation.

May 19, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez has been recalled by Oakland from Triple-A Sacramento, according to TSN.

Our View:

Gonzalez could be in line for spot starts after the A's sent down both Sean Gallagher and Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez holds a 5.97 career ERA over 257.2 career innings pitched (35 starts) in the majors, and is only worth a look for deeper AL-only leagues though.

March 30, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Athletics, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

The 26-year-old holds a 5.97 ERA over 257.2 innings (35 starts) pitched in the majors, and was not expected to win a spot in the rotation out of spring training.

March 19, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks as the A's fell to the Rnagers 8-5 on Thursday. He struck out one batter in 2.1 innings of work.

Our View:

Gonzalez is comepting for the finals spot in the A's rotation, but he probably lost ground today, particularly to Josh Outman who threw four shutout innings.

February 20, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez has reported to camp with the Athletics today after being delayed due to visa issues in Mexico, according to the SF Chronicle. He will throw a bullpen session Saturday and participate in next week's intrasquad game.

Our View:

Gonzalez will be competing with Gio Gonzalez, Josh Outman and minor-league free agent Jerome Williams for the fifth spot in the rotation. Gio Gonzalez is likely the favorite.

February 19, 2009

Edgar Gonzalez remains absent from camp with Oakland due to visa issues in Mexico, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:

Gonzalez should still be in good shape as he pitched in the Mexican winter league, but his absence could further hurt his chances to earn a rotation spot.

February 9, 2009

The Athletics have signed former Diamondbacks' hurler Edgar Gonzalez to a minor league deal, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View:

He will be a non-roster invitee to spring training. He will be given a shot to compete for a rotation spot, but his odds seem slim. He held a poor 6.00 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 48 innings (six starts) with Arizona in 2008.
