Newsbreakers

October 3, 2009

Making his first start since May 16 with the Nationals, Daniel Cabrera walked three and struck out one in five innings of three-run ball on Saturday. The Diamondbacks lost 5-0 at Wrigley Field.

Our View:

The start was garnered by necessity and not merit, and Cabrera is a long shot to be starting for any team in 2010.

September 4, 2009

Daniel Cabrera has been added to the Diamondbacks' major league roster, and will join the team in Denver on Friday, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:

Before being released by the Nationals in May, Cabrera was having a very typical Cabrera season, going 0-5 with a 5.85 ERA, while walking 35 batters in only 40 innings pitched. He's not an option in any format.

August 3, 2009

Daniel Cabrera has agreed to a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic. He will be sent to Triple-A Reno if he passes his team physical.

Our View:

He held a 5.85 ERA and 2.08 WHIP over 40 innings (eight starts) with Washington this season, and his fantasy stock does not look to improve much if he works his way into Arizona's rotation.

May 28, 2009

Daniel Cabrera is reportedly on the Marlins' radar after the Nationals designated him for assignment earlier in the week, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:

Cabrera was terrible with the Nationals as he held a 5.85 ERA and issued 35 walks over 40 innings, but could actually benefit by playing with a better supporting cast in Florida. The Marlins could use pitching depth.

May 27, 2009

Daniel Cabrera has been designated for assignment by the Nationals, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:

Cabrera struggled this season, namely with wild pitches, and the club did not have a spot for him in the rotation or bullpen. GM Mike Rizzo noted that he grew tired of watching Cabrera pitch.
