Newsbreakers

October 1, 2009

Nate Robertson was hit with his third loss of the season on Thursday as the Tigers fell to the Twins 8-3. Robertson allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out two in his six innings of work.

Our View:

Robertson wasn't great today, and a good performance could have sealed the division for the Tigers. Detroit is still in very good shape to make the playoffs, but they would have preferred to seal the deal today.

September 20, 2009

Nate Robertson picked up a win in his spot-start on Sunday as the Tigers beat the Twins 6-2. Robertson went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out six.

Our View:

This was a very solid outing for Robertson, as he was starting in place of Jarrod Washburn. Robertson might get another start or two before the season is out, but he still isn't worth much of a look for fantasy owners.

September 18, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that Tigers' pitcher Nate Robertson threw a full bullpen session without discomfort on Thursday. Robertson is scheduled to start for the team Sunday in place of Jarrod Washburn.

Our View:

Robertson appears to be completely healthy at this point, and he is going to go on Sunday for the team. He isn't worth an add at this point unless he absolutely dominates in this start, which seems highly unlikely.

September 16, 2009

Nate Robertson is expected to make a spot-start Sunday in place of the ailing Jarrod Washburn (knee), according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Robertson has been recovering from pelvic inflammation, but is apparently healthy enough to take the hill this weekend against the Twins. He is slated for a pen session tomorrow to insure he is ready.

September 12, 2009

Nate Robertson has been diagnosed with pelvic inflammation after departting in the fourth inning of his start on Friday, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.

Our View:

He will likely miss at least one start. No word yet on who will take his turn in the rotation. In 35.1 innings this season, he has a 5.35 ERA.

September 11, 2009

Nate Robertson exited Friday's game against the Jays in the fourth inning with an apparent groin strain.

Our View:

The severity of the injury is yet to be determined. Armando Galarraga replaced Robertson on the hill.

September 3, 2009

Nate Robertson pitched six shutout innings on Thursday, but took a no-decision, as Detroit blew a 3-0 lead before rallying to beat the Indians 4-3 in ten innings.

Our View:

Robertson has posted a 0.90 ERA in ten innings (two starts) since being reinserted into the Tigers rotation, and is certainly worth a look in AL-only formats.

August 29, 2009

Making his first start of the season on Saturday, Nate Robertson allowed just one earned run in four innings, but fell to 1-1 as the Tigers lost 3-1 to the Rays at home.

Our View:

With a 6.84 ERA in 25 innings this season, Robertson doesn't appear poised to make any magic going forward.

August 29, 2009

Nate Robertson is ready for today's start against the Rays at Comerica Park, according to the Detroit Free Press. He said, "I am not thinking beyond tomorrow. I do not think it would be very smart to do so. In any position thinking beyond the next game is not a good thing. So today I sm going to focus on the lineup, get the scouting report, have a game plan and obviously not worry about things popping up in my arm."

Our View:

Robertson will be making his first start since last September. He was pleased with his control and velocity over his last two minor league starts, and noted that his slider started regaing its "old bite." The lefty is worth a look as a flier for AL-only leagues while replacing the struggling Armando Galarraga in the rotation.

August 26, 2009

Nate Robertson has been activated from the DL following his recovery from left elbow surgery to remove a mass, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:

Robertson will work in the rotation with Armando Galarraga demoted to the minors, and is slated to start Saturday against Tampa Bay. He is only worth a look for deeper fantasy leagues for now.

August 26, 2009

Nate Robertson is expected to start for the Tigers on Saturday, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Jason Beck. Robertson is recovering from left elbow issues, and he has been on a rehab assignment.

Our View:

Robertson will be starting in the place of Armando Galarraga, who was optioned to Triple-A today. Robertson has been good in his rehab stint, but fantasy owners should stay away from him for now. If he comes out and produces a few nice starts, then give him a look, but not before then.

August 5, 2009

According to the Detroit Free Press, Nate Robertson allowed one run in 2.2 innings Tuesday night during his first rehab appearance.

Our View:

Robertson's only earned run came via the long ball, but his elbow held up fine in the outing. He is scheduled to have at least three more rehab starts and then will be reevaluated. Barring any setbacks he should rejoin the team after that.

August 2, 2009

Nate Robertson (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:

He'll be joined by teammate Jeremy Bonderman (shoulder) on the assignment, and both could be back with Detroit before the end of the season if things go well. Still, the Tigers' acquisition of Jarrod Washburn pretty much confirmed that neither man will be contending for a starting gig this season, so don't bother with either one.

June 30, 2009

FoxSports.com is reporting that Tigers' pitcher Nate Robertson underwent surgery on Tuesday morning to remove a tissue mass in his left elbow. Robertson's agent, Steve Canter, was quoted as saying that Robertson would be able to begin throwing in four weeks.

Our View:

The surgery was a success, and apparently more minor than was originally thought. Robertson won't hold any fantasy value when he returns, but it looks like he will be back sooner than expected.

June 29, 2009

Updating a previous report, MLB.com is reporting that Tigers' pitcher Nate Robertson is scheduled to meet with team doctor Stephen Lemos Monday in Detroit to have his left elbow examined. It is expected that Robertson will have a procedure to remove the tissue mass in his elbow that is causing numbness in his ring and pinky fingers.

Our View:

Robertson was placed on the DL over the weekend, and it looks like he may be spending quite a bit of time there. Although this doesn't appear to be a major surgery, anything to the elbow is never good for a pitcher. Robertson held very little fantasy value before his trip to the DL, and if possible he holds even less now.

June 28, 2009

According to the Detroit News, the Tigers have placed Nate Robertson on the 15-day DL with a mass in his left elbow.

Our View:

Owners (if there are any) shouldn't mind Roberston landing on the DL. He has been miserable this season with a 7.71 ERA. He was replaced on the roster by Fu-Te Ni.

May 21, 2009

Nate Robertson will be activated from the 15-day DL today following his recovery from a strained muscle in his lower-back, according to the Detroit News. Luke French will be sent down to Triple-A Toledo to make room on the roster.

Our View:

Robertson will return to his role as a reliever, and holds little fantasy value right now - especially since he carries a poor 6.30 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 10 innings of work.

May 19, 2009

Nate Robertson is reportedly feeling much better on Tuesday after struggling much of the past week with back pain, according to MLB.com. Robertson has been on the DL with a lower-back muscle strain.

Our View:

Robertson has been hurting pretty bad over the last week, but apparently he was feeling much better when he woke up today. He expects to be ready to rejoin the bullpen on Thursday when his DL stint is up. He has very little fantasy value pitching out of the bullpen.

May 14, 2009

Nate Robertson has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Tigers, according to the Detroit News. He is dealing with a lower-back muscle strain. Lefty hurler Luke French was recalled from Triple-A Toledo as the adjoining move.

Our View:

The DL move is retroactive to May 6. Robertson has not been sharp over 10 innings of relief, with six earned runs and six walks allowed.

April 6, 2009

Nate Robertson struck out two hitters in one inning of relief as the Tigers fell 12-5 to the Blue Jays on Monday. He did not allow a run or even a single base runner.

Our View:

Robertson lost out on a spot in the starting rotation, but his debut out of the bullpen could not have gone any better. The Tigers need a lot of help in the bullpen, and they may count on Robertson to shore up a big hole in middle relief this season.

April 1, 2009

Following Tuesday's rough outing against the Nationals, it has been determined that Nate Robertson will begin 2009 in the Tigers bullpen, according to MLive.com.

Our View:

Three of Robertson's six appearances this spring came out of the bullpen, but there's little doubt that he would rather be in the rotation. As a reliever, he holds no fantasy value.

March 31, 2009

Nate Robertson was knocked around by the Nationals of all teams on Tuesday, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in just three innings.

Our View:

With the thumb injury, today's rough outing and last year's 6.35 ERA Robertson looks like he might lose his job in the rotation. Even if he cracks it, he's not likely to make a fantasy impact.

March 27, 2009

X-rays of Nate Robertson's thumb revealed no fractures, although he is still unable to bend it completely and says that it is still very sore, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:

Robertson had been making a strong case to enter 2009 as Detroit's No. 5 starter, although this will set him back from possibly making any more starts in spring, meaning Rick Porcello may be needed to fill the spot at the start of the year, at least initially. Robertson is no more than a late-round selection in deeper AL-only leagues at this point.

March 25, 2009

Nate Robertson exited Wednesday's game against the Mets in the first inning with an apparent hand injury.

Our View:

Robertson cannot afford to miss time while competing for a rotation spot. We will keep you posted when the Tigers update his status.

March 20, 2009

Nate Robertson turned in a fine performance Friday afternoon, shutting out the Nationals in four innings. He allowed two hits and struck out five batters.

Our View:

Robertson needed a start like this to regain confidence that has been wavering due to lackluster performances early in the spring. He could potentially prove worthy of consideration in deep AL-only leagues.

March 8, 2009

Nate Robertson struggled mightily against the Yanks Sunday, allowing three runs on three hits in just two innings. He also walked four and gave up a home run to Angel Berroa.

Our View:

Robertson has done little since posting career numbers in the Tigers pennant season of 2006. A disappointing nine-win season in '07 was succeeded with a bloated 6.35 ERA in 2008.
