December 8, 2009

According to Jeff Fletcher on Twitter, the Brewers are officially shopping outfielder Corey Hart.

Our View:

Milwaukee has apparently entertained multiple offers already for Hart, so a move may be imminent. The Brewers are desperate for pitching help and are willing to part with Hart's bat to get it. Unfortunately he's coming off a down year where he hit just 260/.335/.418 with 12 home runs, and the Brew Crew certainly won't get a king's ransom for him.

October 5, 2009

Corey Hart visited Dallas hand specialist Don Sheridan, who determined that the slugger is dealing with two badly sprained fingers on his right hand, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:

It was previously believed that Hart's injured fingers may have been fractured. His hand will remain concealed in a splint for now to expedite the healing process.

October 1, 2009

Corey Hart is not with the team after suffering possible finger fractures, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The team has not released how Hart sustained the injury at this time.

Our View:

This sounds a bit fishy, but we will update his status when it is released. It doesn't look like he will be playing much for the rest of the season, so mercifully his 2009 disaster of a season looks to be about over.

September 15, 2009

Corey Hart was just 1-for-5 on Tuesday, but managed to drive in three runs in the Brewers 13-7 loss to the Cubs.

Our View:

Hart has had a disappointing season overall and has been even worse since rejoining the Brewers on September 8th. He has just two hits in 18 at-bats since his return.

September 8, 2009

Corey Hart has been activated off the DL by the Milwaukee Brewers, according to TheScore.com. Hart has been out since the beginning of August with appendicitis.

Our View:

Hart fared well in his minor league rehab assignment, and he should see regular playing time for the rest of the season. He has been a disappointment this season, but he may be able to provide some fantasy numbers for owners down the stretch.

September 2, 2009

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Corey Hart is ready to embark on a rehab assignment Thursday.

Our View:

Hart has been dealing with a case of appendicitis. He's healthy now, but is still not in game shape. He says he feels good and a few rehab game should right the ship. The outfielder is expected to rejoin the team on Tuesday.

August 29, 2009

Corey Hart (appendectomy) hopes to being a minor league rehab assignment by the end of next week, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt.

Our View:

Hart was one of the biggest disappointments in baseball before going down earlier this month, batting just .264 with 11 home runs in 98 games a year after being named an All-Star.

August 3, 2009

As expected, Corey Hart has been placed on the 15-day DL due to appendicitis, according to TSN. Bill Hall was recalled from the minors to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View:

Hart is expected to be on the shelf for the remainder of August while recovering from surgery. Frank Catalanotto will see more action while helping replace Hart in the outfield.

August 2, 2009

Updating a previous report, Corey Hart had surgery to remove his appendix on Sunday and will be placed on the disabled list, according to Adam McCalvy's Twitter account.

Our View:

The Brewers plan to bring Bill Hall back to the majors, but it appears Frank Catalanotto will get the majority of the starts in Hart's absence. He figures to miss about a month.

August 2, 2009

According to Adam McCalvy's Twitter account, Brewers' outfielder Corey Hart has been hospitalized with what the team thinks is appendicitis.

Our View:

If he does indeed have appendicitis he would likely miss the rest of the month at the least. The Brewers plan to discuss his status after the game. Jody Gerut and Frank Catalanotto will fill in while Hart is out.

July 26, 2009

Corey Hart's first home run since June 17 drove in the Brewers only two runs on Sunday, as Milwaukee lost 10-2 to Atlanta at home.

Our View:

Hart is in the middle of a miserable July. He has just one home run and has managed to drive in just four runs. His pedigree suggests you should keep him, but if you are in a non-keeper, 10-12 team mixed league, you can't afford to hold onto him any longer.

July 18, 2009

Corey Hart went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI in tonight's 5-1 win at Cincinnati.

Our View:

Hart has a hit in four straight games, with three RBI over the span. He is now hitting .400 over 45 at-bats in July.

July 11, 2009

Corey Hart remains out of the Brewers' lineup while dealing with a bruised left foot, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View:

He missed his fourth straight start Saturday. Hart feels better while running, but still has discomfort while changing directions. Skipper Ken Macha is hopeful that Hart could return to action Sunday.

July 10, 2009

Corey Hart remains out of the Brewers' lineup for tonight's game against the Dodgers while nursing a bruised foot, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View:

There was belief Hart would be ready to return, but he will remain out for the third straight game. Frank Catalanotto will roam in right field in his place.

July 9, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that Brewers' outfielder Corey Hart is scheduled to return to the lineup Friday after missing the last two games with a bruised foot. Hart injured the foot when he fouled a ball off of it on Tuesday.

Our View:

Hart's injury is minor, and it was more precautionary that he sat out today. Expect him to be fine tomorrow, so owners should feel free to get him back in the lineup.

July 9, 2009

Corey Hart missed Wednesday's game with a bruised foot, according to MLB.com. Hart fouled a ball off of his foot on Tuesday, and he may be out for Thursday's game as well.

Our View:

Hart still has some discomfort in his foot, and it looks like he may be out of the lineup again today. We will keep you updated on his status, but plan on playing today without him.

June 24, 2009

The Brewers are still open to the idea of trading All-Star outfielder Corey Hart, with the Braves being a possible destination because of their pitching depth, according to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

Our View:

Rosenthal says part of the stumbling block to trading Hart, though, is the Brewers lack of a suitable replacement for him. The Braves would also have to flip or bench Jeff Francoeur before any possible Hart deal. Hart's numbers are down from 2008, making any potential deal a little more complicated.

June 21, 2009

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Corey Hart is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Our View:

Hart is fine and actually has a ten-game hitting streak, but Manager Ken Macha wants Frank Catalanotto to get some playing time to stay sharp when the Brewers return to National League play this week. Expect Hart to be back in the lineup next game.

June 14, 2009

Corey Hart continued his hot streak on Sunday in the Brewers' 5-4 loss to the White Sox. Hart went 2-for-3 with two home runs, two runs scored, and two RBI.

Our View:

Hart is starting to get hot, and fantasy owners who have hung on to him should get him back in the lineup now while he is hitting. When Hart is hot, he can do a lot for a fantasy team, but he still has trouble with strikeouts.

June 12, 2009

Corey Hart led the Brewers in Friday's 7-2 win over the White Sox at Miller Park, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI. He hit a double and a triple.

Our View:

Hart has a three-game hitting streak with four RBI over the span. He strikes out a lot, but should remain in fantasy lineups while he is hot.

June 11, 2009

Corey Hart is not in the Brewers starting lineup today as manager Ken Macha is giving him and other slumping players the day off according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:

The 2008 All-Star is in a season long funk, batting just .239 with six home runs. He should get it going at some point, but is not a great candidate to have in your starting lineup every day right now.

June 2, 2009

Corey Hart is not in the Brewers starting lineup tonight according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He will be replaced by Frank Catalonotto.

Our View:

It appears to be in an effort from manager Ken Macha to get as many lefties as possible in the lineup against Marlins pitcher Anibal Sanchez.

June 2, 2009

Updating a previous item, Foxsports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that the Brewers Corey Hart is not on the trading block nor are the Brewers entertaining offers for him.

Our View:

This makes sense considering the Brewers have no adequate replacement for Hart and the fact that Mike Cameron's knee problems have resurfaced. The Brewers could certainly use pitching help, but it appears that if they are to make a trade they will once again be trading prospects, and not regulars like Hart or Prince Fielder, for an established pitcher.

June 2, 2009

In addition to the Giants and Red Sox, the Tigers are now also believed to be scouting Corey Hart according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:

Because of the Giants surplus of young pitching, San Francisco still seems like the most likely destination should Hart be dealt, but the Tigers do have a bevy of young arms as well. It is unlikely they would be willing to do deal a premium young pitcher like Rick Porcello, though.

May 31, 2009

The Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox and Giants have both scouted Brewers' outfielder Corey Hart. The Brewers would be interested in dealing Hart if they could get starting pitching in return.

Our View:

The Giants seem like a good fit for a deal here, since they have some pitching they would be willing to part with, mainly Matt Cain. The Red Sox could use Hart, but it is unlikely they would trade a top pitching prospect such as Clay Buchholz.

May 27, 2009

Corey Hart is not in today's lineup, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:

Hart is not nursing an injury and skipper Ken Macha just wants to give him a mental day off. He is only hitting .176 over his last 17 games. Frank Catalanotto will roam in right field in his place.

May 21, 2009

Corey Hart was 3-for-5 with an RBI in the Brewers' 4-3 win over the Astros on Thursday night.

Our View:

Hart raised his average to just .252 on the season and has been struggling mightily as of late. He has only one home run since April 14th and is not looking like the fantasy dynamo that many thought he would be after a very strong spring. Play him at your own risk until he legitimately heats up.

May 19, 2009

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Corey Hart will hit leadoff of the Brewers in Tuesday's game.

Our View:

Hart has hit in the leadoff spot before, so he knows what to do. With Rickie Weeks out for the season the first slot in the lineup will likely be a revolving door, but Hart gets the first crack at it. The good news is he may steal more. That bad news is that his RBI production will likely drop.

May 16, 2009

Corey Hart accounted for the only run of the game with one swing of the bat on Saturday. His solo home run in the second inning held up and the Brewers topped the Cardinals 1-0. It was his only hit in four trips.

Our View:

Hart has struggled to start the season and is hitting just .263 with four homers and 15 RBI. He should have much more impressive numbers hitting in a prime RBI spot (6th) in a potent Brewers' lineup.

May 5, 2009

Corey Hart was 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored in the Brewers 8-5 win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

Our View:

Hart has struggled to put up the five-tool fantasy numbers that owners were hoping to get out of him, especially after a hot spring. He has just three homers, 10 RBI and three steals. He's also been caught stealing three times and already has 30 whiffs on the season.

April 26, 2009

Outfielder Corey Hart will be on the bench for Sunday's game against the Astros. Brad Nelson will get his first career major league start, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel notes.

Our View:

Hart isn't injured. In fact, he has four multi-hit efforts over his last six games. We're not too pleased to see him sitting, but he has yet to miss a game this year.

April 13, 2009

Corey Hart hit a home run and a triple as the Brewers fell to the Reds 7-6 on Monday. He accounted for three RBI in the game.

Our View:

Hart has homered in three of his last four games and has a hit in all but one game this season. His strikeouts are still a bit of a concern but as long as he is slugging like this, they are well worth it.

April 12, 2009

Corey Hart hit his second home run of the season in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Cubs. The solo shot was his only hit in four plate appearances as he also struck out twice.

Our View:

Hart has struck out eight times in 22 at bats this season, pointing to the fact that last year's second half struggles may not be behind him. He continues to struggle against the slider and if he does not figure out that pitch soon, it could be a long summer for his fantasy owners who are hoping for another 20/20 season.

April 10, 2009

Corey Hart had one hit in Friday's come from behind win over the Cubs, but he made it count. He clubbed his first home run of the season and also walked twice in the game.

Our View:

Hart had an incredible spring training, and is trying to right the ship after a down year in 2008. This is a good start. After back-to-back 20/20 seasons, there could still be room for some improvement if he ever learns how to control the strike zone better.

April 1, 2009

Corey Hart was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI on Wednesday.

Our View:

Corey Hart has been a beast this spring. He's hitting .379 with nine doubles, seven home runs and 17 RBI. Looks like he's trying to make nice with fantasy owners after last season's disappointing campaign.

March 19, 2009

Corey Hart was 1-for-2 with a walk, a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored as the Brewers beat the Indians 7-5 on Thursday.

Our View:

Hart has hit five home runs and six doubles in 40 at-bats this spring. He is a streaky hitter who took a step back last season, but his potential fantasy numbers could make him a Top 20 outfielder.

March 17, 2009

Corey Hart was 2-for-3 Tuesday with a pair of doubles and two RBI. He's hitting an eye-popping .447 this spring.

Our View:

A nice option for power and steals, but Hart's second half drop-off and increasing strikeout rate are concerning. He looks great this spring though, and could fall a bit on draft day due to last year's "disappointing" season. Get him on the cheap if you're going to get him.

March 16, 2009

Corey Hart hammered out his fourth home run of the spring as Milwaukee beat the Cubs 9-6 on Monday. He finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while also collecting his fourth double of the spring and yet another strikeout.

Our View:

Hart has been slugging with the best of them this spring, but he has the strikeouts to show for it. After an outstanding start in 2008, he fell off in the second half of the season. He should be a solid fantasy contributor, but strikeouts are a growing concern.

March 12, 2009

Corey Hart continued his demolition of opposing pitchers over the past two weeks, belting his third home run this spring against San Diego on Thursday.

Our View:

Hart did strike out in his other two plate appearances and now how seven strikeouts compared to just one walk in spring, though that hasn't stopped him from hitting .440 (11-for-25) with seven RBI, five runs and three stolen bases. Hart has gone 20-20 each of the past two seasons, and 25-25 would not be out of the question this year.

March 2, 2009

Corey Hart went 3-for-3 in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Padres. He had a home run, double, two RBI, and a run scored.

Our View:

Hart is off to a nice start this spring. He was excellent in the first part of last season and even named an all-star. However, he collapsed in the the second half thanks to a steady diet of sliders. If he can adjust to that pitch, he should be able to retain some pretty good calue.

February 25, 2009

Corey Hart was 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk, and a stolen base as the Brewers tied the A's 3-3 on Wednesday.

Our View:

Hart was a mess by the end of last season, when it seemed that he could not lay off of the slider. He will need a better approach this season if he hopes to retain his value.

February 17, 2009

Corey Hart signed a one-year, $3.25 million dollar deal with the Brewers, avoiding arbitration, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Hart had a great year for the Brewers, hitting 20 home runs and driving in 91 RBI. If Hart can continue to drive the ball and increase his average, he will further increase his appeal to fantasy owners in multiple formats.

February 3, 2009

MLB.com reports that outfielder Corey Hart is Milwaukee's only player now eligible for arbitration, thanks to second baseman Rickie Weeks' one-year deal that was signed Tuesday.

Our View:

Hart, whose arbitration hearing is scheduled for the next few weeks, is seeking $3.8 million, $1.1 million more than what the Brewers offered when the two sides swapped figures on Jan. 20.

January 31, 2009

Corey Hart and the Milwaukee Brewers have not made progress in their contract negotiations, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:

Hart's arbitration hearing isn't for more than two weeks, so the club has time to work things out. Hart has asked for $3.8 million, and Milwaukee has countered with $2.7 million for arbitration.

January 26, 2009

Corey Hart is hoping to avoid an arbitration hearing, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Hart and the Brewers are believed to be $1.1 million apart on his 2009 salary.

Our View:

The slugger turned down a long-term extension with the club last year, but remains open to the idea. Hart has crushed 44 homers with Milwaukee over his last two campaigns, but his low OBP leaves a bit to be desired.
