Denard Span was the man for the Twins on Saturday as he went off with a 4-for-5, six-RBI game. He had a triple and three singles in the 11-6 win over Kansas City.

Our View:

Span has had a monster second half this season. He hit .313 in July, .375 in August and is currently raking at a .317 clip in September. He's also homered twice and driven in 14 this month, giving him 66 on the year.

Carlos Gomez is working in center field in his absence. Skipper Ron Gardenhire expects to have Span back on Friday, barring a setback.

September 22, 2009

Denard Span is out of the Twins' lineup for tonight's game at Chicago after being beaned in the head last night, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:

Carlos Gomez will roam in center field in his absence. The team did not disclose if Span is dealing with a concussion.

September 21, 2009

Denard Span exited tonight's battle with the rival White Sox after getting beaned in the helmet on a pitch from Randy Williams, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Span remained on the ground for a few minutes before being assisted off the field. Carlos Gomez replaced him in the lineup, and Span's injury status is yet to be updated.

August 24, 2009

Denard Span helped lead the Twins in tonight's 2-1 win over the Orioles at the Metrodome, as he went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a run scored.

Our View:

Span raised his batting average to .306, and recorded multiple hits in seven of his last nine games.

August 21, 2009

Denard Span went 2-for-5 with a triple and a pair of RBI in the Twins' 5-4, ten-inning win over the Royals on Friday.

Our View:

Span is red hot and has recorded mulit-hit games in four straight. He has ten hits in those four games and has his average up to .305 on the year.

August 19, 2009

Denard Span went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in tonight's 5-4 win at Texas. He hit a double and two singles.

Our View:

Span had a nice night at the plate, and raised his season batting average to .300. He has multiple hits in three of his last four games, and scored 12 runs over 17 games this month.

August 8, 2009

Denard Span is red hot right now. The Twins' leadoff hitter went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI in an 11-0 win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Our View:

Span now has nine hits over his last two games and has his average up to a cool .300 on the season. He's a fine fantasy play in all formats.

July 29, 2009

Denard Span went 2-for-3 with an RBI in tonight's 3-2 win over Chicago at the Metrodome. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View:

Span is riding an eight-game hitting streak, and is batting .309 with 13 RBI in July. He is worth penciling into fantasy lineups while swinging a hot stick.

July 26, 2009

Denard Span tied his career high with four RBI on Sunday, as the Twins crushed the Angels 10-1 in Anaheim.

Our View:

Span doesn't have a ton of home runs or RBI, but his 16 steals make him a fringe option in most mixed formats.

July 21, 2009

Denard Span is out of Minnesota's lineup for tonight's game at Oakland, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:

Span is not nursing an injury, and is just getting a night off to rest. Delmon Young will roam in left field in his place.

July 12, 2009

Denard Span wreaked havoc on the bases in Sunday's 13-7 thrashing of the White Sox. The Twins' leadoff hitter was 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs scored, three RBI and two steals.

Our View:

Span has been a beast in the month of July. He's hitting .364 with seven RBI and four steals. The Twins' speedster is a solid fantasy option in the outfield.

July 8, 2009

Denard Span was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in the Twins 4-3 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.

Our View:

Span has been impressive at the top of the Twins' lineup this season. He missed a couple weeks in the middle of June to an illness, but he's been hot lately. He has 12 hits in the six games he's played in this month and is a nice source of steals (114 on the season).

June 25, 2009

According to TSN.ca, the Twins have activated outfielder Denard Span off the DL. In a corresponding move, the team optioned outfielder Jason Pridie to Triple-A.

Our View:

Span is expected to be ready to go despite getting hit on the hand in his last rehab game, so fantasy owners should feel free to activate him at this point. Span is having a nice season so far for the Twins, and expect it to continue as the season wears on.

June 24, 2009

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Denard Span was hit on the palm by a pitch during his rehab start and was removed from the game.

Our View:

Span is scheduled to be activated from the DL on Thursday, but the Twins are hoping that the hand isn't now an issue. He was removed from the game for precautionary measures and the injury doesn't seem serious, but it's something to keep an eye on. Assuming he does return on schedule, he should be fine to plug back into fantasy lineups.

June 23, 2009

Denard Span went 1-for-4 in his rehab outing with Triple-A Rochester Monday, and did not experience any dizziness, according to MLB.com. He has been dealing with an inner-ear infection.

Our View:

Barring a setback, Span is expected to be activated from the DL Thursday. He should be fine to return to fantasy lineups upon his return to the Twins.

June 21, 2009

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Denard Span is set to go on a Triple-A rehab assignment to work out the kinks after missing time with an inner ear issue.

Our View:

Span is slated to play on Monday and Tuesday and then rejoin the team in Milwaukee on Wednesday before coming off the DL Thursday. Feel free to get him back in your lineup then as he was having a fine fantasy campaign as the Twins' leadoff man before the injury.

June 16, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Denard Span has landed on the 15-day DL after being diagnosed with a virus that attacks a nerve that sends signals (like balance) from the ear to the brain, according to the Associated Press. Outfielder Jason Pridie was recalled from Triple-A Rochester as the adjoining move.

Our View:

That was deemed to be the cause of his dizziness. He will take medication for the illness. He has not played since June 9, and shall remain held out of fantasy lineups.

June 16, 2009

Denard Span remains on the shelf for Tuesday's game against the Pirates due to his inner-ear infection, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:

Span has not played since June 9, and shall remain held out of fantasy lineups until further notice. He visited a doctor today, and the club is yet to update his status.

June 15, 2009

The Star-Tribune reports that Denard Span may be headed to the DL. He will see a thyroid specialist Tuesday to try and determine why he's battled dizziness in recent weeks. He has not played since June 9.

Our View:

Span's case resembles the struggles that Joey Votto is dealing with as he tries to return from the DL. Span owners should prepare accordingly. Carlos Gomez figures to pick up the majority of center field duties if Span continues to miss time.

June 11, 2009

Updating a previous report, Denard Span may miss the weekend series against the Cubs due to his recent bout with dizziness, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Cuddyer is getting the start in center field on Thursday, but we expect to see Carlos Gomez out there as well. There is still no defined cause for Span's odd symptoms.

June 11, 2009

The Star-Tribune reports that Denard Span hopes to re-join the Twins this weekend after his bout with dizziness. He left Tuesday's game with the ailment. Manager Ron Gardenhire said the team has no timetable for the outfielder. Doctors have yet to determine the cause of the dizziness.

Our View:

Carlos Gomez will continue to hit leadoff in Span's place. We have our doubts that he is back so soon without a proper diagnosis. Other players with similar symptoms have found their way to the 15-day DL.

June 10, 2009

The Twins will send outfielder Denard Span back to Minneapolis on Wednesday to undergo testing. He left Tuesday's game in Oakland early due to dizziness. "I've never felt this way playing baseball," Span tells the Pioneer Press. "It's kind of scary." He also felt these symptoms in May, and the issue may be related to his thyroid.

Our View:

The Twins play five more games on the road (two Oakland, two Chicago) before returning home next week. We don't know if Span is in danger of missing that much time, but it seems possible. With Span out, Delmon Young should start alongside Michael Cuddyer and Carlos Gomez.

June 10, 2009

Denard Span exited Tuesday's battle with Oakland due to dizziness, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

He was replaced in the outfield by Carlos Gomez. Span's status is yet to be updated.

May 27, 2009

Denard Span was perfect at the plate on Wednesday in the Twins' 4-2 win over the Red Sox. Span went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base in the game.

Our View:

Span has been fairly impressive this season, and he bumped his average up to .316 with his night tonight. He is stealing bases and scoring runs, and he is a solid AL-only option. Deeper mixed league owners may want to give him a look as well.

May 26, 2009

Denard Span is back in center field for Tuesday's game, according to the Pioneer Press. Carlos Gomez will be heading to the bench to make room from Span.

Our View:

Span has been dealing with dizziness from the flu, but apparently he is good to go tonight. He is hitting over .300 on the year, and he has some fantasy value in AL-only leagues and possibly very deep mixed leagues.

May 26, 2009

Denard Span was held out of Monday's lineup due to dizziness caused by the flu, and manager Ron Gardenhire is uncertain if he will let Span return to the diamond tonight against the Red Sox, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:

Carlos Gomez could start in center field if Span does not get the green light to play. He is day-to-day and was not expected to miss much time with the illness.

May 25, 2009

Denard Span was held out of Monday's lineup against Boston as he is feeling light-headed due to the flu, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:

Manager Ron Gardenhire wanted to play it safe by holding him out, but noted that Span could be used if needed. Span is day-to-day and should not miss much more time with the illness.

May 24, 2009

Denard Span was not in the lineup for Sunday's game due to flu-like symptoms.

Our View:

That flu bug just keeps passing through Major League Baseball from team to team. Span likely won't be out long though. Consider him day-to-day. He was replaced by Delmon Young in left field.

May 18, 2009

Denard Span went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Monday's 7-6 road loss to the Yankees.

Our View:

Span hit a home run on April 8 and then another one on May 18. He was homer-less in the meantime. The more disturbing trend though is his steep drop in batting average. After hitting .321 in April, he is batting only .239 through 67 May at bats.

April 29, 2009

Denard Span went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Rays.

Our View:

Span has hit consistently throughout April and he is now up to .321. Still, he hit around .270 throughout his minor league career so we are hesitant to believe he will keep this up. Tonight marked his first triple of the season, but he had seven in 93 games last season.

April 18, 2009

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Denard Span is not in Saturday's lineup and will sit for the first time this season.

Our View:

This looks like just a day of rest for the Twins speedy lead off man. He's having a fine campaign so far, hitting .304 with a homer, eight RBI and three steals. He should be back in the lineup tomorrow.

April 17, 2009

Outfielder Denard Span went 2-for-5 with a double, one run, and two RBI in Friday's win over the Angels.

Our View:

Span keeps doing an excellent job of getting on base, but the lineup around him has struggled thus far. We're hopeful that his value will rise once Joe Mauer returns.

March 16, 2009

Denard Span went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Orioles. He hit a single and a triple.

Our View:

He notched his first triple of the spring, and had seven over 93 games in 2008. Span is worth targeting as a flier for mixed leagues, namely as an option for speed.

March 4, 2009

Denard Span went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks in Wednesday's game against the Pirates. It's good to see him taking pitches, but his spring average is sitting at a paltry .100.

Our View:

Last year's surprising young outfielder has had a miserable spring thus far. His job appears to be safe though as he had a fine season in 2008, which the Twins are looking for him to build on.
