The Yankees are dangling Nick Swisher as trade bait, according to Bob Nightengale.

Our View:

Swisher had a solid 2009 with a .371 OBP despite a .249 batting average. He hit 29 home runs and was one of very few Yankees who hit much better on the road than at home. There could be some interest in the switch-hitting outfielder.

November 1, 2009

FoxSports.com is reporting that Yankees' outfielder Nick Swisher overhauled his batting stance after being benched in Game 2 of the World Series. Swisher was 2-for-4 in Game 3 with a double and a home run.

Our View:

Swish was 4-for-35 in the postseason heading into last night's game, but he broke out in a big way. If Swisher gets going, the Yankees are going to be even tougher to beat.

October 31, 2009

Nick Swisher is starting in right field for the Yankees in Game 3 of the World Series. Swisher will hit seventh in the order.

Our View:

There was some doubt as to who would get the nod in right, but Joe Girardi decided to go back to Swish. We will have to see if he can break out of his postseason slump against Cole Hamels.

October 29, 2009

Nick Swisher has been benched for tonight's Game 2 of the World Series against Philadelphia, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Swisher is struggling at the plate, and Jerry Hairston Jr. is slated to replace him in right field. Hairston is 10-for-27 over his career against opposing hurler Pedro Martinez.

September 30, 2009

Nick Swisher performed well in tonight's 4-3 loss to the Royals at Yankee Stadium, as he went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer off Robinson Tejeda.

Our View:

Swisher has a hit in four straight games, and swatted a homer in each of his last two. The former member of the White Sox proved to be a strong addition for New York this season, as he racked up 29 homers and 82 RBI.

September 15, 2009

Nick Swisher went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in tonight's 10-4 loss to Toronto at Yankee Stadium. He also scored a run.

Our View:

Swisher is hot, as he collected two hits in each of his last three games. He has 32 doubles, ranking third on the team behind Robinson Cano (41) and Mark Teixeira (39).

September 14, 2009

Nick Swisher went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Angels at Yankee Stadium. He hit a double and a solo homer off Jered Weaver.

Our View:

Swisher crushed his 27th homer of 2009, and remains on pace to reach 30 for the second time in his career. He has six homers so far this month.

September 8, 2009

Nick Swisher went 2-for-3 with a pair of solo homers in tonight's 3-2 win over the Rays at Yankee Stadium.

Our View:

Swisher has a hit in five straight games, with three homers over the span. He has 26 homers for the season, which are the most he hit since 2006, when he launched a career-high 35 with Oakland.

September 6, 2009

Nick Swisher kept up his torrid road hitting on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, but couldn't keep the Yankees from getting blown out 14-8 in Toronto.

Our View:

The switch-hitting Swisher is now hitting .284 with 21 home runs and 54 RBI on the road, while bafflingly batting just .200 with three bombs in the hitting haven that is the new Yankee Stadium. Sometimes, this game just can't be explained.

August 31, 2009

Nick Swisher led the Yankees offensively in tonight's 5-1 win at Baltimore, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. He hit a single, double, and a solo homer off Jeremy Guthrie.

Our View:

Swisher collected his 22nd homer, with five coming this month. He also has five hits over his last two games, and hopefully he will remain hot for fantasy owners heading into September.

August 22, 2009

Nick Swisher provided all of the offense for the Yankees on Saturday in their embarrassing 14-1 loss to the Red Sox. Swisher went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and an RBI in the game.

Our View:

After an offensive explosion last night, the Yanks' bats were kept silent for the most part today. Swisher continues to hit well on the road, and he can help a fantasy squad when he plays. He won't have great value until he plays every day.

August 5, 2009

Nick Swisher went 2-for-5 with a single and a solo homer off Marc Rzepczynski in tonight's 8-4 win at Toronto.

Our View:

Swisher has a hit in eight of his last nine games, with four homers over the span. This is good for him while fighting for playing time in the Yankees' outfield.

July 30, 2009

Nick Swisher hit a huge ninth inning home run to tie the game for the Yankees on Thursday, but the White Sox countered in the bottom of the inning to walk away with the 3-2 win. Swisher was 1-for-4 on the game with the solo shot.

Our View:

Swisher's homer tied the game in the top of the inning, but the bullpen couldn't kee the Sox off the board in the bottom. Swisher still looks to be in a platoon situation with Eric Hinske in the outfield, but he is a decent offensive threat when he plays.

July 27, 2009

Nick Swisher hit two home runs on Monday, his 15th and 16th dingers of the year.

Our View:

Swisher hadn't hit a home run all July until Monday and hadn't even had a multi-hit performance over his past 14 games. This outing could be exactly what he needed to get his bat back going as he platoons with Eric Hinske in right field.

July 11, 2009

Nick Swisher is out of the Yankees lineup on Saturday, according to Newsday. Eric Hinske will start in his place.

Our View:

If you are still starting Swisher, be sure to sit him. After a hot start in 2009, he has cooled off considerably, and is no longer with an own in most mixed leagues.

July 6, 2009

Nick Swisher pounded three hits on Monday as the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays by a score of 7-6. Swisher went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the contest.

Our View:

Swisher isn't showing much in the way of average this season, hitting at .242, but he does have 14 homers and 43 RBI, which are both solid totals. He is a decent fantasy play, but don't expect many three-hit games like he had today.

June 24, 2009

Nick Swisher went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI in Wednesday's 8-4 win at Atlanta.

Our View:

Swisher snapped a 12-game drought without a homer, and has 13 for the season. Mark Teixeira continues to pace the Yankees with 20 home runs.

June 13, 2009

Newsday is reporting that Yankees' outfielder Nick Swisher is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets. Swisher is getting a day off and is being replaced by Brett Gardner.

Our View:

No injury here, as Swish is just getting a day of rest. If you have another option you should use it, but if not Swisher should be back in the lineup tomorrow.

June 8, 2009

Nick Swisher led the Yankees in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rays as he went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. His other knock was a single.

Our View:

Swisher has swatted a homer in back-to-back games, and has 12 for the season. He is swinging the stick very well so far this month after only hitting .150 in May.

June 7, 2009

Nick Swisher went 1-for-2 with a solo homer off Matt Garza in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Rays at Yankee Stadium. He drew two walks as well.

Our View:

Swisher continues to swing the stick well this month, after struggling in May with an anemic .150 batting average.

June 1, 2009

Nick Swisher led the Yankees in Monday's 5-2 win at Cleveland, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Both of his knocks were doubles.

Our View:

Swisher extended his hitting streak to five games, with four RBI over the span.

May 6, 2009

Nick Swisher was ejected on Wednesday night for arguing balls and strikes, according to The Star-Ledger. He went 0-for-3 to drop his average to .279 before the ejection.

Our View:

Swisher is 0-for-9 over his last three games, and his .279 average is the lowest point his batting average has been all season. He should still provide plenty of power, but the average, and potentially his playing time (when Xavier Nady returns), could be in question.

May 4, 2009

Nick Swisher could return to the lineup for Monday's game against the rival Red Sox, according to Newsday. He is nursing a bruised right elbow.

Our View:

Swisher should be back soon, if not tonight. He is off to a solid start with a .312 batting average and seven homers over 23 games, and we will keep you posted on his status.

May 2, 2009

Nick Swisher is not in the lineup for Saturday's tilt against the Angels. He took a pitch off the right elbow on Friday.

Our View:

Swisher is day-to-day, and it's not too surprising he is not able to turn around and be ready for day game. We suspect he will return on Sunday.

May 1, 2009

Nick Swisher left Friday's game against the Angels after being hit on the elbow by a pitch from Jared Weaver. He was replaced by Brett Gardner.

Our View:

X-rays were negative and Swisher is listed as day-to-day. Watch for an update on his status for tomorrow's game.

April 30, 2009

Nick Swisher was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored as the Yankees beat the Angels 7-4 on Thursday.

Our View:

Swisher had gone on a small strikeout tear recently, but he has avoided the whiff in his last three games while drawing four walks. When he is a patient hitter, he is a very dangerous hitter. Hopefully, he continues to exhibit patience and pays off for his owners.

April 29, 2009

Nick Swisher went 2-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI, and two runs scored in the Yankees 8-6 win over Detroit.

Our View:

Swisher is playing everyday without Xavier Nady around and he is rewarding his owners. He is slugging .720 through his first 75 at bats with seven home runs, eight doubles, and 19 RBI. However, he may drop all the way to eighth in the order once Alex Rodriguez returns.

April 28, 2009

Nick Swisher was 2-for-3 with a home run on Tuesday in the Yankees' 11-0 drubbing of the Tigers. He also walked twice and scored three runs in the game.

Our View:

Swisher cooled off significantly after he tossed the famed scoreless inning and was hitting homers like they were going out of style in mid-April. It's nice to see him pick himself back up. His average is back above .300 now and the struggling Yankee offense could use another capable bat.

April 14, 2009

One night after he threw a scoreless inning, Nick Swisher's torrid hot streak continued. He homered again in the Yankees 7-2 win over the Rays and added a double in four trips to the plate. The home run was his fourth.

Our View:

Swisher has been an absolute beast this season. He now has four home runs and 11 RBI on the year and has 11 hits in 24 at-bats. If he's on your waiver wire still, go ahead and grab him. There's no telling when he'll come back down to Earth.

April 13, 2009

Nick Swisher went 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season as the Yankees fell to the Rays 15-3 on Monday. He then took to the mound in the eighth inning. He allowed a hit and a walk, but did not allow a run in his pitching debut. Amazingly, he also struck out a batter.

Our View:

Swisher's K/9 rate is worth keeping an eye on but the WHIP is a little...aw heck, who are we kidding?! Swisher has no business being on the mound, unless it is for entertainment purposes or trying to save the bullpen, which was the case tonight. The real story with Swisher is his 1.692 OPS through seven games. Manager Joe Girardi simply cannot remove him from the lineup as long as he remains this hot.

April 12, 2009

Nick Swisher will start at first base in place of Mark Teixeira today against the Royals, according to the Star-Ledger. Teixeira is nursing a sore left wrist.

Our View:

Swisher is slated to bat third in the order between Derek Jeter and Hideki Matsui. Swisher is worth penciling into fantasy lineups as he has three doubles, one triple, two homers and nine RBI over 13 at-bats so far this season.

April 11, 2009

Nick Swisher started in place of Mark Teixeira and did a very good impression of the Yankees' first baseman. Swisher tripled, homered, scored three runs and drove in three in the Yankees' 6-1 win over Kansas City.

Our View:

Swisher is a good source of power, but with him only getting about three starts a week, he's a tough fantasy play. He's likely worth it in AL-only leagues though.

April 10, 2009

Nick Swisher is expected to get roughly three starts per week to go along with pinch-hit at-bats off the bench, according to the New York Post.

Our View:

Swisher had a huge day on Thursday and certainly has great potential down the road should he be able to win near-everyday playing time in the Yankees' lineup, though his value will remain limited to AL-only leagues for now while he receives probably not much more than 20 plate appearances per week.

April 9, 2009

Nick Swisher had a monster game on Thursday against Baltimore, going 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored in New York's 11-2 romp at Camden Yards.

Our View:

Swisher hit a two-run homer in the fourth and then singled home a pair of runs in a four-run Yankee sixth to lead New York's 13-hit assault.

March 16, 2009

Nick Swisher started at first base and was 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Yankees 12-0 win over the Phillies on Monday. He is now hitting .222 this spring.

Our View:

Swisher is battling for a regular job that he will not likely find. At best, he will platoon with Xavier Nady in right field, while Mark Teixeira mans first base and Hideki Matsui fills in at DH.

March 14, 2009

Nick Swisher was 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored as the Yankees defeated the Pirates 13-10 on Saturday.

Our View:

Swisher is just 2-for-20 this spring and he is probably in danger of losing his everyday starting job. At this point, he is probably the Yankees fourth outfielder, and reserve 1B/DH.

February 25, 2009

Nick Swisher started in right field for the Yankees as they defeated the Blue Jays 6-1 on Wednesday. He struck out once, had an RBI and drew two walks.

Our View:

Swisher had some pretty ugly numbers last season, as his BABIP fell 52 points. He should be able to enjoy somewhat of a comeback in New York this season and he will likely play several positions. Regardless, Swisher is always good for plenty of walks and strikeouts.

January 13, 2009

With the acquisitions of Javier Vazquez, Derek Lowe and Kenshin Kawakami, the Braves will now focus their attention on adding a power hitting outfielder, according to MLB.com. They are interested in both Yankee outfielders Nick Swisher and Xavier Nady, which Swisher being the more attractive option in their eyes due to the fact he is under contract until 2011.

Our View:

If the Braves are able to add either player, that would close the gap even more on their talent level and the talent level of the Mets and Phillies.

January 13, 2009

The Atlanta Braves are interested in the services of a Yankees outfielder - either Nick Swisher or Xavier Nady, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View:

The Braves are in big-time need of an outfield bat, and both of these players would qualify. The team has Jeff Francoeur stationed in right and a solid infield nucleus, but needs at least one more productive bat.

January 10, 2009

The Nationals are interested in acquiring first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher or outfielder Xavier Nady, and they are currently in trade discussions with the Yankees, MLB.com reports.

Our View:

Nady would add to an already-crowded outfield, unless the Nationals give up a projected starter in return. Swisher would presumably take the first base job from the oft-injured Nick Johnson. We'll have more analysis should a deal actually happen.

January 8, 2009

Nick Swisher is a name that has been discussed between the Pirates and the Yankees, and even though the talks were cordial, it doesn't look like he will end up in Pittsburgh, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:

Swisher is due $22 million the next three years, and with the Yankees in search of pitching in exchange for Swisher, there just doesn't seem to be a good match between the two clubs.

January 7, 2009

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Reds GM Walt Jocketty has had multiple discussions with Yankees GM Brian Cashman regarding Nick Swisher among others.

Our View:

The Yankees traded for Swisher earlier this offseason, but their acquisition of Mark Teixeira has made him somewhat expendable. It remains to be seen exactly how the Reds would intend using him.

January 7, 2009

The Mets were interested in Nick Swisher prior to joining the Yankees, according to the NY Post.

Our View:

The Braves were also interested in Swisher, who will be looking to bounce back after being a disappointment with the White Sox in 2008.

January 7, 2009

The Nationals inquired about Nick Swisher, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:

The Yankees listened, but were not impressed with the Nationals' offer.

January 6, 2009

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports states that Yankees' outfielder Nick Swisher is garnering strong interest.

Our View:

Rosenthal believes the Giants, Braves, or Pirates would make sense, all three of which could use help in their outfield and at first base.
