Chris Duncan is drawing interest from four teams this offseason, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.
He is supposedly over the neck injury that plagued him much of the past two seasons. Considering his total lack of defensive ability, the four supposedly interested teams are almost all likely American League clubs. Any deal is likely to be a minor league one.
Chris Duncan has been released by the Red Sox, according to the Providence Journal.
Duncan was acquired in the trade that shipped shortstop Julio Lugo to St. Louis, but he failed to see any action with the Sox, as he only hit .188 over 92 plate appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket. Boston still has a player to be named or cash considerations coming in that trade.
According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have optioned newly acquired outfielder Chris Duncan to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Not only is there no room to put Duncan at the major league level right now, but the Sox likely want him to get some seasoning in Triple-A to see if he can bust out of his current 1-for-31 slump. If Duncan is recalled at some point, it's hard to imagine his as more than a bat off the bench.
According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chris Duncan has been traded to Boston Red Sox for Julio Lugo. Boston will also get a player to be named later or cash.
This move makes sense for the Cardinals on nearly every level. Duncan is mired in a prodigious slump, with just one hit and one total base in the month of July, and the Cards were in dire need of a major league caliber infielder. The Red Sox are reportedly paying the bulk of Lugo's hefty remaining salary, as well, so this is a big win for the Birds on Bat no matter how you look at it.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals have optioned slumping outfielder Chris Duncan to Tripple-A Memphis.
Duncan's struggles have been beyond miserable this month. He has exactly one hit and one total base in July, and currently has no business playing at the major league level. Due to his amount of major league service time though, Duncan had to agree to the demotion. The Cardinals made the move move late Tuesday night and infielder Brian Barden is expected to be called up before Wednesday's game. Duncan will not be missed in fantasy formats.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa says struggling outfielder Chris Duncan has been receiving "unfair" treatment from fans and the media, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The dubious comment came in response to reporters' questions about why TLR pinch hit Chris Duncan in a tight game in the ninth inning on Tuesday. Duncan promptly grounded into a game-ending double play. He has one hit in 27 at-bats in July, and only one home run since May 26.
Chris Duncan had his first multi-hit game since May 30 on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 while scoring three runs in the Cardinals 11-2 victory over Detroit. He also hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, his first since May 26.
Duncan has cooled off considerably since a hot start and probably isn't worth a roster spot in any format due to his streaky nature and inconsistent playing time.
Chris Duncan was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Brewers.
After an April in which he hit .304, Duncan has been miserable in May. Before Tuesday's game he was hitting .197 with one home run this month, so it was a much needed offensive outburst. His struggles have contributed to the Cardinals' lack of runs scored this month.
Chris Duncan was 2-for-5 with three RBI as the Cardinals survived a Reds rally to win 8-7 in 10 innings on Sunday.
Duncan is off to a great start in 2009 as he is hitting .288 with 23 RBI through 104 at bats. He hit .248 and .259 the past two seasons. However, he has just three home runs. While we expect the home runs to come at a quicker pace, it seems unlikely he hits for such a high average all summer.
Chris Duncan continued his hot start at the plate on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run, and two RBI. The Cardinals beat the Nationals 6-2.
Duncan continues to hit the ball well despite not being in the lineup everyday. If he keeps hitting like this, he should see more starts in the future, but there will always be those days when Tony La Russa changes up his lineup, so watch out for that.
Chris Duncan, who was a home run shy of the cycle just yesterday, belted his second homer of the year against the Cubs on Thursday and went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Duncan has put together a nice little eight-game hit streak and has logged a extra-base hit in each of his last five games. On the downside, he was caught stealing and also commit an error in the field, though it'll be tough for Tony LaRussa to take the power lefty out of the lineup if he stays hot at the plate. At this point, despite St. Louis' crowded outfield, it appears that Duncan should be good to play five or six days per week.
Chris Duncan was a home run shy of the cycle on Wednesday in the Cardinals 12-7 win over the Diamondbacks. Along with his three hits, he also drove in two runs.
Regardless of why he's in the lineup, the son of Cardinal pitching coach Dave Duncan, has produced so far this season. After today's contest he's hitting .344 with a home run and seven RBI. Tony's willing to give him the time, so he's not a bad waiver pickup in mixed leagues.
Chris Duncan went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks, and a strikeout in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Mets. It was his fourth home run of the season.
Duncan projects to be the Cardinals starting left fielder, but it also appears that the team will keep Colby Rasmus on their major league roster. It would seem that Duncan, rather than Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick, would find his bats most jeopardized by the rookie.
Chris Duncan was 2-for-4 at the dish an d whacked his third homer of the spring Tuesday. He also walked, drove in three and vaulted his average above the .300 plateau.
Duncan is having a pretty good spring, and since he had the titanium plate put in his neck, his power has returned. This is the same power that made his an attractive young hitter just a couple years ago. He looks like he's ready to contribute, but he may not get the chance every day unless he's shipped out of St. Louis. There is an overpopulation problem in the Cardinals' outfield.
Chris Duncan sat out Wednesday's game due to a slight pull in his groin, but he is expected to return to the diamond today, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Duncan believes the pain was probably scar tissue breaking up.
Duncan can be a solid power hitter, but he has been hindered by injuries over his career, and will have to fight for playing time in a crowded Cardinals' outfield. Consider him as a sleeper for deeper leagues.
According to Matthew Leach of MLB.com, Chris Duncan sat out of Wednesday's Grapefruit League game due to a sore groin. He apparently injured himself returning to first base after a single in Tuesday's contest.
Keep an eye on Duncan's health, as his nagging aches and pains tend to transform into full blown injuries. Duncan has had a fine spring thus far, and appears poised to make the roster and see legitimate time in left field if he remains healthy.
Chris Duncan went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.
Duncan is really coming on strong and feels like he is seeing the ball well this spring. He has below average skills in the outfield but looks like he will get a lot of time early in left field in 2009.
Chris Duncan is believed to be fully recovered from surgery to repair a herniated disk, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He has full strength and use of his right arm again since the first half of the 2007 campaign.
This is good news for Duncan, but he looks to start the 2009 season as a reserve in a deep and talented Cardinals' outfield.
