The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Khalil Greene will not be on the Cardinals postseason roster. He will be a free agent this winter.
Greene hit just .200 this season with 24 RBI in 170 at-bats. He also battled depression throughout the season. With the emergence of shortstop Brendan Ryan, the Cardinals will not be interested in bringing him back and he'll probably have a hard time getting anything more than a minor league deal.
As expected, Khalil Greene has been activated from the 15-day DL, according to the Associated Press. Mitchell Boggs was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the roster.
Greene has been suffering from social anxiety disorder which limited him to only 47 games this season. Skipper Tony LaRussa considered starting Greene today, and he could work his way back into the lineup if his illness is under control.
The Cardinals will activate infielder Khalil Greene (anxiety) from the 15-day DL on Saturday, MLB.com confirms.
Greene could see a decent amount of action over the next few days because Brendan Ryan (ankle) is out, but the former starting shortstop is expected to be only a bench player moving forward.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals could activate shortstop Khalil Greene as early as Friday.
Greene, on the DL with anxiety issues for the second time this season, has been mashing the ball in Triple-A and with Thursday's injury to Brendan Ryan the Cards could get his bat in the lineup. In the last eight games of his rehab stint, Greene is 12-for-30 with four homers and eight RBI.
MLB.com is reporting that Cardinals' infielder Khalil Greene is getting close to returning to the team. Greene could be activated by the team as soon as Tuesday, before the team begins its next road trip.
Greene has been absolutely destroying Triple-A pitching as of late to the tune of a .343 average and four home runs over the last ten games. He won't be an everyday guy when he returns, but he could provide some infield depth and a right handed bat off the bench.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Khalil Greene homered for the second straight game on Tuesday in a rehab start with Triple-A Memphis.
Greene appears to be progressing during his second rehab stint for an anxiety disorder and the Cardinals plan to reevaluate him on Friday. Should he be mentally sound enough to contribute on the big league level, the Cards would likely bump overexposed infielder Joe Thurston off the 25-man roster to make room for Greene. However, with the acquisition of Matt Holliday and Mark DeRosa, he will have a tough time finding at-bats with the big club.
According to the Twitter page of Cardinals' beat writer Joe Strauss, the team plans to promote rehabbing infielder Khalil Greene to Triple-A Memphis on Monday. Greene has been rehabbing in Double-A while recovering from social anxiety disorder.
Strauss also indicates that Greene could rejoin the major league club for their next road trip if all goes well in Memphis. Greene has taken two different trips to the DL for anxiety, an he is not a reliable fantasy option in any format.
According to the Twitter page of Springfield, Mo News-Leader reporter Matt Baker, Cardinals' infielder Khalil Greene is scheduled to begin a three-game rehab assignment with the Cardinals' Double-A affiliate on Friday. Greene is on the DL with social anxiety disorder.
Greene was already on the DL once with the disorder, and it looks like he will suffer from it for the rest of the season. His status for the rest of the season remains a mystery, but fantasy owners should not consider him an option until he proves he is capable of playing every day. There are more reliable options out there.
As expected, Khalil Greene has been sent back to the 15-day DL, according to the Sports Network. Pitcher Clayton Mortensen was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to fill his spot on the roster.
He continues to suffer from social anxiety disorder. The illness already forced him to miss 19 games this season. He should remain stashed on fantasy rosters until further notice.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that infielder Khalil Greene is likely headed to the disabled list with anxiety issues again.
After hitting three home runs in his first series back, at Kansas City, Greene went 0-for-13 in the Cardinals series against the Mets last week and has apparently suffered a setback. He wasn't much of a fantasy option anyway, but he might not be one at all until he can overcome these problems and stay on the field for a prolonged amount of time.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Khalil Greene suffered a setback in his battle with anxiety on Saturday.
Greene went 0-for-13 against the Mets after homering in three straight games in the previous series against the Royals. The recent skid has apparently triggered his anxiety disorder and he will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game and likely many, many games after that. It seems whenever Greene struggles now it's a result of the disorder. Whether that's the case or not, Greene will likely lose playing time now that the Cardinals have acquired Mark DeRosa.
Khalil Greene is "ok" after leaving Sunday's game in the fourth inning after being hit on the knee by a Gil Meche pitch, according to MLB.com. Green had homered in his previous at-bat, and homered in all three Cardinals games in Kansas City over the weekend.
Greene will be in the lineup on Monday night when the Cardinals take on the New York Mets and Tim Redding. He probably isn't worth a roster spot in any format yet, but if you are desperate there are probably worse people to add than Greene and his three-game home run streak. Until he proves he has gotten over the anxiety problems and inconsistency that have derailed his last two seasons, though, he is not a long term option.
Khalil Greene exited Sunday's battle against Kansas City after being struck by a pitch on the right knee, according to the Associated Press.
He was replaced at shortstop by Joe Thurston. Greene's status is yet to be updated.
Khalil Greene hit his second homer in as many days on Saturday as the Cardinals downed the Royals 7-1. Greene went 1-for-4 in the game with a run scored and three RBI.
Greene has been awesome since making his return to the lineup on Friday, but he still remains a fantasy enigma. He has shown the ability to be a solid fantasy shortstop/third baseman, but it is hard to tell if he can remain consistent over the rest of the year. If you really need an infielder, he may be worth a look, but don't be shocked if he struggles for large chunks of the season.
As expected Khalil Greene is in the starting lineup for the Cardinals on Saturday. The game has yet to start due to rain in Kansas City.
The ball fouled off his foot in Friday's game is now officially no big deal and Greene will play third base and hit eighth for Tony LaRussa's Cardinals.
According to MLB.com, Khalil Greene is fine after fouling a ball off his foot and leaving Friday night's game. He is available to play Saturday.
Greene said the bruised left foot was sore at first, but feels fine now. Expect to see him in the lineup today seeing as how he was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and a homer before exiting in the fifth inning. It's obviously a little too early to tell if his head is right, but he appears to be getting himself back on track after landing on the DL with severe anxiety issues.
Khalil Greene exited Friday's game at Kansas City with a bruised foot, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Greene was fresh off the DL following his bout with anxiety issues. Joe Thurston replaced him at shortstop, and the severity of Greene's injury is yet to be determined.
Khalil Greene has been activated from the disabled list, according to John Marecek of KTRS.
Hopefully Greene has sorted out his issues and is happy to be playing baseball again. He is not a fantasy option at this time, but look for him to gain third base eligibility as Cards manager Tony La Russa says he plans on using him there.
The AP reports that Khalil Greene worked out with the Cardinals on Wednesday and is expected to be activated from the DL soon. He is recovering from social anxiety disorder.
Greene has also been working out at third base in his rehab assignment and that's where the Cards will try to squeeze him in when he is activated. Wherever he plays, he doesn't figure to have much fantasy value when he returns.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that when shortstop Khalil Greene returns from the disabled list, it will be as a third baseman.
With the way Greene has struggled at short this season, and the way Brendan Ryan has excelled, the Cardinals apparently do not want to tempt fate and put Greene back at shortstop just because that's where he's always played. Coupled with the Cardinals disastrous third base play this season, the move seems to make sense. Of course, it only makes sense if Greene manages to avoid struggling there the way he did at short. This new position does not enhance his fantasy value, either.
Khalil Greene has returned to St. Louis after two games in a rehab assignment, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
He will probably work out with the team, and then meet with officials to discuss his return to the active roster. GM John Mozeliak is optimistic regarding Greene's progress from an anxiety order. We will keep you posted on his status.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' shortstop Khalil Greene went 1-for-4 in his first rehab start with Triple-A Memphis on Monday. Greene struck out looking in the bottom of the eighth inning with the tying run on second base in the Redbirds' 2-1 loss to New Orleans.
Nice to see Khalil playing again, but it wasn't a great night at the plate for him. The social anxiety disorder he has been dealing with seems to be improving, but it is anyone's guess at this point when and if he will be able to return. The strikeout in the pressure situation is a little concerning, but hopefully Khalil can get things figured out in time to help the struggling Cards.
The Cardinals have sent Khalil Greene to Triple-A Memphis to begin a rehab assignment for social anxiety disorder according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Greene has been a mystery for the Cardinals this season, struggling since opening day despite an amazing spring. There is no word on how long his rehab assignment will last nor on what capacity he will be used in once he returns to the big club. Keep him away from your fantasy teams until further notice.
Updating a previous report, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals have placed shortstop Khalil Greene on the 15-day DL with social anxiety disorder.
The Cards were said to be in fact-gathering mode on Greene, and apparently they got all the facts they needed to put him on the DL. Maybe some time away from the game will do him some good, but he should not still be taking up any fantasy roster spots at this point.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals are in "fact-gathering mode" in regards to Khalil Greene. Greene has been dealing with anxiety issues this season, and the Cardinals may be thinking about placing him on the DL.
This is an interesting situation for the Cards. Ryan Ludwick is expected to be activated today, and the Cardinals need a roster spot for him. Greene is obviously dealing with something, but he has to consent to being placed on the DL. We will keep you updated on this situation, but at this point Greene should not be a fantasy option for anyone.
The Boston Globe is reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals are shopping Khalil Greene to the Red Sox. Greene has fallen down the depth chart while dealing with anxiety disorder.
Greene seems to have lost his job in St. Louis, and although the Sox could use a fill-in at short right now, Greene seems to be a terrible fit. If he is having trouble with anxiety in the city with the best fans in the league, there is no way he could function in Boston.
Khalil Greene sat out another game Tuesday while dealing with anxiety-related issues, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He sat for the fifth time in six games.
Greene is going to deal with his issue on his own terms, and is being used as a utility man until he is deemed fit to return to the starting lineup. Brendan Ryan has been filling in at shortstop.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' manager Tony La Russa told Khalil Greene that he will be used more like a utility player for the next few days or until he gets more comfortable at the plate.
To say Greene's tenure so far in St. Louis has been rough would be an understatement. He is hitting .204 on the year, and many people are wondering if his .213 average last season is about all you can expect from him. If he is on your fantasy team, you may want to sit him until he gets things figured out.
MLB.com reports that Khalil Greene is back in the lineup on Wednesday and manager Tony La Russa says that he does not have any restrictions. He had missed the last week with a sore arm.
Greene has not been good on offense or defense has he had already committed four errors and is hitting only .209 at the dish. One positive note is that his nine strike outs have been matched by nine walks this season.
Khalil Greene took infield Monday and made game-speed throws to test how his sore forearm has recovered, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Greene said his arm "felt normal and feels good," and he could be given the green light to return to the lineup Tuesday.
Greene has been able to pinch hit for the last week but unable to play the field. It sounds like that could change as early as today.
Shortstop Khalil Greene remains out on Saturday due to a sore right forearm. Brian Barden will start in his place, the Washington Post confirms. Greene is day-to-day.
Greene pinch-hit on Thursday, but his injury gives him trouble when he throws. Barden is getting a look at shortstop after Tyler Greene struck out three times on Friday night.
MLB.com reports that Khalil Greene is not in the lineup on Wednesday due to a sore right forearm. He is expected to be out for the next two or three days. Brendan Ryan figures to start in his place.
Apparently he is having a bigger issue with throwing the ball than swinging a bat so he may get called upon to pinch hit. Greene has already committed five errors in the field and is hitting just .219.
Skipper Tony LaRussa indicated that Khalil Greene will likely return to the starting lineup tonight at Atlanta after being benched in favor of Brendan Ryan Monday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
LaRussa noted that he went with Ryan due to his solid track record offensively against the Braves at Turner Field, but he likely benched Greene as he already made five fielding errors this season.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Khalil Greene is not in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs. Brian Barden will start at shortstop.
Greene is a career 1-for-18 off of Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano, and manager Tony La Russa likes to play the match-ups. Greene has played in every game so far this season.
Khalil Greene went 3-for-4 while hitting second in the Cardinals lineup in Sunday's 3-0 win over Houston. The shortstop accounted for three singles, a run scored, an RBI and his first stolen base of the season in the win.
Whoever is hitting second in front of Albert Pujols, typically finds his way on base. Unfortunately, that player has rotated almost every time out for Tony LaRussa's Cardinals. Greene has not enjoyed the same success this season as he had this spring, but today's performance may be what he needed to heat up.
Khalil Greene will get his first day off Saturday, as the shortstop is sitting versus Roy Oswalt, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Brendan Ryan is starting in place of Greene, who is 2-for-16 in his career against Oswalt.
Khalil Greene hit cleanup Wednesday and is hitting fifth for the Cards today, and it's possible the shortstop could find himself in those lineup spots often this season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Manager Tony La Russa said that Greene could be a fit for cleanup against a lefthanded starter, and the skipper added that he "Could use him there against a righthander, too."
Greene is batting .406 with a .970 OPS this spring and could be in line for a nice bounce-back year, especially if he finds himself in the heart of the Cardinals order more times than not.
Khalil Greene went 2-for-4 while hitting clean-up behind Albert Pujols in Monday's 2-1 win over Florida. The shortstop is now hitting .418 this spring.
Greene has, surprisingly, been the most consistent bat in the Cardinals lineup this spring. It seems very unlikely that he would serve as "protection" for Pujols in the regular season, but if the outfielders continue to struggle in that spot, he may get a chance. Either way, Greene has boosted his fantasy value with a very strong spring.
The Cardinals and shortstop Khalil Greene fell to the Mets 9-5 on Thursday, but Greene did all he could, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. He is now hitting .404 this spring.
Obviously, Greene won't hit like this in the regular season, but it's also unlikely he'll hit .213 this year like he did last year. He could provide solid fantasy value if he can get his batting average to, say, .260 and hit more than 20 home runs as a shortstop.
Cardinals shortstop Khalil Greene will likely be the team's sixth-place hitter in the lineup, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Greene has been hitting very well this spring, with a .396 average. Hitting in the six hole should allow him ample RBI opportunity and a look in NL-only leagues and deeper mixed leagues.
Khalil Greene went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Houston.
He is hitting .396 with 15 RBI in spring action. He also turned a double play on defense today. Greene looks to bounce back this season following a disappointing 2008 campaign, and could be a nice value pick in fantasy drafts.
Shortstop Khalil Greene was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI as the Cardinals fell to the Tigers 7-6 on Monday.
Greene is having an impressive spring with 12 RBI, five doubles, and a .447 batting average through 44 at-bats. Following last season, he is likely being ignored in most drafts, but he is in a better situation in St. Louis and could be do for a bounce back year.
Khalil Greene was 2-for-3 on Friday and hit his first home run of the spring. He drove in his eighth and ninth runs and raised his average to a whopping .367.
Greene looks like he's feeling comfortable with his new team and is showing signs of the player he was in 2007 when he hit 27 home runs and drove in almost 100 runs. He's a decent late option fantasy shortstop as long as the 2008 Khalil Greene doesn't come creeping back.
Khalil Greene doubled in two runs with his only hit of the day as the Cardinals beat the Astros 5-1.
So far, so good regarding Greene's fit with his new team. He is hitting .350 with seven RBI and a stolen base in 20 at bats.
Khalil Greene went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Mets. His hit was a single.
Greene now has five RBI in the Grapefruit League. Greene's production should benefit by leaving pitcher-friendly PETCO Park and while playing on a better offensive team, but he should be drafted as a No. 2 fantasy shortstop based on his poor track record with durability.
Manager Tony La Russa spent a large part of Monday with new shortstop Khalil Greene, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "There is always something else to learn. I'm capable of doing a lot better than I've done in the past. I know that much," Greene said.
Greene is the biggest free-agent that the Cardinals have brought in to date. Considering he hit .213 last season, that's probably not saying much for the team's offseason. Greene has nowhere to go but up, and La Russa's focus on him should only work in his favor.
