The Arizona Republic is reporting that the Diamondbacks have declined the option on Chad Tracy. Tracy would have made $7 million if the team would have picked up the option, but instead they decided to pay a $1 million buyout.
Not a big shocker here, as Tracy played in only 98 games last year and hit a miserable .237. He is coming off one of the worst years of his career, but someone could get a bargain if he can stay healthy for a full season.
Chad Tracy went 3-for-4 with a home run in the Diamondbacks 7-4 win over the Padres on Sunday.
Tracy didn't have a hit in the entire month of September until Saturday night when he launched a pinch-hit grand slam. The he comes back the next day, collects three hits and rips another homer. Looks like the pending free agent is getting energized. Too little too late though, seeing as how we're at the tail end of the season's final month.
Chad Tracy clubbed a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning Saturday to give the Diamondbacks an 8-5 win over the Padres.
Tracy's season has been a disappointment, as he's struggled with injuries and creating productive at-bats. Saturday's grand slam was a big hit, but it's also his only hit in the month of September. He looks to be a free agent at the end of the season, because Arizona would be foolish to pick up his $7 million option.
Chad Tracy is expected to be a free agent after this season with Arizona highly unlikely to pick up his $7 million option for next year, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
No surprise here, as Tracy has been a disappointment the past three seasons; since reaching 20 home runs for two-straight years from 2005-06, he's struggled to get on base, hasn't even reached double-digit home runs and, unless he plays each of Arizona's final eight games (which he won't), he'll have failed to reach 100 games played for the third-straight season. He's still young enough at 29 and is sure to be picked up by someone, though not for anywhere near that $7 million.
Chad Tracy has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a strained oblique, according to the Associated Press. Leo Rosales was optioned to Triple-A Reno to make room on the roster.
Tracy was only hitting .203 with four homers over 39 games prior to going down, and is not worth penciling into fantasy lineups upon his return to Arizona.
Chad Tracy is only days away from a return, according to the Arizona Republic.
Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, his hitting while out on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno, 4-for-16, is very similar to his hitting before going down with a strained oblique on May 30, .203. He is not a good fantasy option.
Chad Tracy is set to begin a rehab assignment this weekend and could rejoin the team later next week according to the Arizona Republic.
Tracy was struggling mightily before going on the DL at the end of May with a strained oblique and shouldn't be counted on for consistent production once he returns.
Chad Tracy took batting practice in the cage on Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list on May 30 with an oblique strain according to the Arizona Republic.
He says he could be ready to begin a rehab assignment by next week. Tracy has been a major disappointment for the Diamondbacks in 2009, batting just .203 with four home runs in 39 games. When he does come back, he could eventually be a fantasy option, but he is not worth an immediate add and likely won't be for some time.
The Diamondbacks placed Chad Tracy on the 15-day DL due to an oblique strain and called up Josh Whitesell on Saturday, according to the AP. He suffered the injury while hitting a single in his final at bat on Friday night.
The injury comes at a poor time for Tracy as he was coming off a three-hit game that included a home run. Mark Reynolds will probably see more time at first, although Whitesell could also see some starts there.
Chad Tracy had a big night at the plate on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI in the Diamondbacks' 8-6 loss to the Marlins.
Tracy, like almost every other D-Back hitter, has been pretty bad this season. He had a nice game tonight, but don't expect him to be much of a fantasy contributor this season. You should find another option if he is still on your team.
Chad Tracy went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI, and three runs scored as the Diamondbacks beat the Cubs 10-0 on Wednesday.
Tracy had just two hits in his last six games but he continues to see time in the three-hole. The D-Backs lineup got it going today, but they are still struggling most nights and as long as they do, Tracy will not hold much value in mixed leagues.
Chad Tracy got the start at third base ahead of Mark Reynolds against right-hander Aaron Cook of the Rockies. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Tracy probably slipped through most fantasy drafts, but he is coming off of a hot spring and is obviously swinging a good bat. He will also have multi-position eligibility as he starts at first against left-handers and at third base against right-handers.
Chad Tracy was 2-for-3 on Thursday with an RBI against the White Sox. He is hitting a blistering .419 this spring.
Tracy has had an impressive spring, but needs to stay healthy and show some consistency at the big league level if he's going to command any fantasy value outside of deep NL-only leagues.
Chad Tracy went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in Arizona's 8-5 loss to the Rangers.
Tracy is hitting well this spring but will have to prove to fantasy owners he has value. He could end up being a nice player in NL-only formats but he comes with some risk for sure due to his injury history.
First baseman Chad Tracy tells the Arizona Republic that his right knee no longer enters his mind during games. "It's been awhile," he says. "Toward the end of last year, in some of the heated games when the adrenaline's going, you don't think about it. Right now it's spring training, and there's not a whole lot of adrenaline flowing, and I'm still not thinking about it." Tracy's knee began to be a problem in 2007, and he underwent microfracture surgery after that season. He is hitting .389 with six doubles this spring.
Getting over the mental hurdle could be huge for Tracy. He did not hit very well in 2008, but it's possible that he could be a decent NL-only sleeper in 2009. Tracy is only 28, and he posted solid numbers in both 2005 and 2006. He still carries risk, but there is a bit of upside.
Chad Tracy went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI in the Diamondbacks 12-7 win over San Diego on Sunday.
Tracy is hitting .389 this spring and is in line to be the opening day first baseman in Arizona. He lacks the natural power that you usually find at his position, but his asking rice will likely be low on draft day and he could produce some decent numbers if he can manage to stay healthy for a full season.
Chad Tracy is expected to play primarily first base in 2009, but he may see some time at third base, as well, according to the Arizona Republic.
While Mark Reynolds is slated to play nearly every day at third base for the Diamondbacks, Tracy will see some time there on occasion when the team wants to get Tony Clark's bat in the lineup. Tracy has missed much of the last two seasons due to knee surgery, so it will be interesting to see if he can stay healthy and return to the form he displayed in 2005 and 2006, when he averaged 24 home runs and 76 RBI.
