Seth McClung was among three Milwaukee players not tendered a contract on Saturday, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Pitcher Mark DiFelice and catcher Mike Rivera will also both not be back in 2010.
The Brewers have activated pitcher Seth McClung off the DL, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Tom Haudricourt. McClung has been out since July 25 with a sprained elbow ligament.
McClung isn't going to solve all of the Brewers' problems, but he should help out the bullpen. He wanted to get back this season to make a few more appearances, and now he can end this year on a high note.
After a successful bullpen session on Sunday, Brewers' pitcher Seth McClung is scheduled to throw again at the Arizona Instructional League on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. McClung has said he would like to make another major league appearance before the season is over.
McClung reportedly looked very good in his simulated game on Sunday, and the team hopes he can make it back before the end of the year. The team will monitor his progress going forward, but it looks like he should be able to come back this season.
Seth McClung threw a simulated game on Sunday, according to the Twitter page of Brewers' beat writer Tom Haudricourt. McClung is on the DL with elbow discomfort.
McClung has been out since last July with the injury, but it looks like he is starting to feel better. He could return soon if everything goes well, but he has no fantasy value coming out of the bullpen.
According to the Boston Globe, the Brewers have placed reliever Seth McClung on the 15-day disabled list with discomfort in his surgically repaired pitching elbow.
The Brewers are calling the injury a sprain and currently have no timetable for McClung's return. This doesn't sound promising, so don't expect him back any time soon. He's waiting on the results of an MRI he underwent Saturday.
Seth McClung was lit up for seven earned runs on seven hits over a mere 3.1 innings in Thursday's 9-5 loss at Chicago. He issued two walks with one strikeout, and was tagged for three homers.
He is winless over two turns in the Brewers' rotation, and should only be considered for deeper fantasy leagues if he gets another start following tonight's nightmarish performance at Wrigley Field.
According to MLBlogs.com, the Brewers plan to keep pitcher Seth McClung in the starting rotation.
McClung lasted just four innings in his prior outing, allowing three runs on six hits, but the Brew Crew has decided to keep him in there instead of the struggling Manny Parra. He will go against the Cubs next time out and if he impresses Manager Ken Macha says he'll remain a fixture in the rotation. If he sticks around he'll have some NL-only value in fantasy leagues.
Seth McClung is in line to take the recently demoted Manny Parra's start this Saturday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
While it is not a sure thing, manager Ken Macha hinted that it is very likely. McClung started 12 games for the Brewers in 2008, so this is not an out-of-nowhere decision. He was reasonably effective in those starts and could be an acceptable spot starting option should he stay in the rotation.
Seth McClung surrendered three runs on four hits in four and one-third innings Friday against Seattle.
McClung is presumably still in the running for a spot in the rotation, but his window may be closing. He showed less than stellar command on Friday, walking three, and isn't known as a power pitcher who can register key strikeouts while in a jam.
Seth McClung has agreed to terms on a deal with the Brewers to avoid salary arbitration, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Terms of the contract were not yet disclosed, but he made $750,000 in 2008.
McClung held a passable 1.41 WHIP with a 4.02 ERA over 105.1 innings (12 starts) in 2008, and could be worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues if he earns a spot in the rotation out of spring training.
With the addition of Trevor Hoffman to close games, Seth McClung will be given a chance to compete for a spot in the starting rotation, according to MLB.com. The signing will also lead to Carlos Villanueva being placed into the 7th or 8th inning role.
McClung made 12 starts last year and was fairly successful with a 4.24 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 7.07 K/9 mark. He bares watching in NL-Only leagues where he might be a nice end-game option.
