Newsbreakers

June 14, 2009

Taylor Buchholz will undergo Tommy John Surgery, according to the Denver Post. He will not pitch again for 10 to 12 months.

Our View:

Buchholz had not pitched at all in 2009, and it's unfortunate they could not have not come to this conclusion months ago. Buchholz was a solid middle reliever in 2008 when he threw 66.1 innings with a 2.17 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.

June 13, 2009

Taylor Buchholz was unable to finish his bullpen session Saturday due to tightness in his right elbow, according to InsidetheRockies.com. He has been rehabbing from right elbow surgery.

Our View:

There is belief Buchholz may need Tommy John surgery. He will meet with the Rockies' medical staff to determine what is best for him after suffering a setback today.

June 11, 2009

MLB.com reports that reliever Taylor Buchholz threw another simulated game on Wednesday and reports no pain or discomfort in his elbow. Manager Jim Tracy was impressed with his command and said he could be nearing a rehab assignment.

Our View:

Buchholz has yet to pitch this season, but he would be a valuable addition to the Rockies improving bullpen. He posted a 2.17 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 66.1 innings pitched last season.

June 3, 2009

The Denver Post reports that Taylor Buchholz threw 20 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday.

Our View:

Buchholz has been out with an elbow injury, but is progressing and should be able to rejoin the team the middle of this month. The Rockies' pen will be glad to get him back.

May 26, 2009

According to the Denver Post, reliever Taylor Buchholz is slated to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. He is recovering from a tear in his ulnar collateral muscle.

Our View:

He will likely have one more bullpen session before starting a rehab assignment. It looks like his June 4th projected return may have been a bit hasty, but he won't be too far behind that. Buchholz would provide a considerable boost to the Rockies' pen if he can perform at the same level he did last season.
