Newsbreakers

December 10, 2009

Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times reports that infielder Josh Wilson has signed a minor-league contract to remain with the Mariners.

Our View:

Wilson hit .219 in 72 games between the M's, Diamondbacks and Padres last season. Expect him to see limited major league playing time in 2010.

September 1, 2009

Josh Wilson went 1-for-4 with a double in Monday's 10-0 loss to the Angels at Safeco Field.

Our View:

The Mariners only mustered three hits in the shutout loss, and Wilson recorded their only extra-base hit. Wilson has a hit in three of his last four games, and batted .296 over 54 at-bats in August.

August 29, 2009

Josh Wilson only recorded one hit in four at-bats on Friday, but drove in half of the Mariners runs in their 6-3 win over the Royals Friday.

Our View:

Wilson now has 11 RBI on the season, and while he's split time with three teams this season, all of his home runs (3) have come with the M's in 44 at-bats.

August 14, 2009

Josh Wilson went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off CC Sabathia in Thursday's 11-1 loss to the Yankees at Safeco Field.

Our View:

The Mariners only mustered three hits, and Wilson was their lone source of scoring. He started the game at shortstop in place of the ailing Jack Wilson (hamstring), and is worth consideration for deeper AL-only leagues.

August 13, 2009

Josh Wilson has been recalled by the Mariners from Triple-A Tacoma, according to TSN.

Our View:

Wilson will see action at shortstop while Jack Wilson recovers from his hamstring injury. Josh Wilson is a career .218 hitter in the majors though, and is only worth a look for deeper AL-only leagues.

July 24, 2009

Josh Wilson has been outrighted to the minors by the Mariners, according to TSN. He was designated for assignment earlier in the week.

Our View:

The 28-year-old is a career .218 hitter in the majors, and holds no fantasy value.

July 21, 2009

As expected, Josh Wilson has been designated for assignment by Seattle, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:

Wilson only appeared in six games with Seattle since being claimed off waivers from San Diego. The 28-year-old is a career .218 hitter in the majors, and should continue to hold no fantasy value.

July 21, 2009

Josh Wilson is expected to be designated for assignment when Mike Sweeney is activated from the DL, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:

Wilson only made two plate appearances since being claimed off waivers from San Diego, and currently holds no fantasy value.

June 19, 2009

The Mariners claimed Josh Wilson off waivers from the Padres, according to the News Tribune.

Our View:

Wilson is a career .219 hitter in the bigs, and has made 26 fielding errors over 128 games. Wilson does not garner fantasy attention as a reserve shortstop.

May 15, 2009

Josh Wilson has been claimed by the Padres, according to MLBTradeRumors.com. Wilson was designated by Arizona for assignment on Wednesday.

Our View:

The Padres needed some infield depth after losing Luis Rodriguez to an ankle sprain. Wilson was unimpressive with Arizona this season, so don't expect him to do much with the Pads. He has no fantasy value at this point.

May 13, 2009

The Diamondbacks designated shortstop Josh Wilson for assignment.

Our View:

Wilson was filling in for Stephen Drew while he was on the DL, but didn't do a very good job of it. He hit just .231 in 11 games and the D-Backs have to be happy to get Drew back.

April 26, 2009

The Diamondbacks purchased the contract of infielder Josh Wilson from Triple-A Reno on Sunday, the AP confirms.

Our View:

Wilson will likely serve as the backup to Felipe Lopez and Augie Ojeda over the next two weeks. We don't see any fantasy value here.
