Chris Young underwent arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder Monday, according to the Associated Press.
The procedure on his shoulder was performed to repair partial tears in his labrum. Young is done for 2009, but is expected to be ready to go for spring training, barring a setback.
According to a report at InsidethePadres.com, GM Kevin Towers confirmed that starting pitcher Chris Young will miss the remainder of the 2009 season. "We want Chris to take as much time as he needs, and get him right in 2010," Towers said.
The Fathers aren't going anywhere this season, so it makes sense that they would not want Young to take a chance at suffering a more serious injury. Expect him to bounce back in 2010, as he wasn't great even before the injury this season.
According to MLB.com, Chris Young will likely avoid surgery on his ailing shoulder, but is expected to miss the remainder of the 2009 season.
The Pads were hoping they could get Young back at some point this season, but the shoulder needs too much time to heal. Structurally things look good though, which is positive. If any surgery would be needed it would likely just be exploratory. Regardless, don't count on Young contributing for the rest of the season.
The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that Padres' pitcher Chris Young is still dealing with inflammation in his shoulder and that he will likely be out until at least September 1. Young has been on the DL since early June with the inflammation to his right shoulder.
Young appears to be in pretty bad shape still, and he has thrown only once since hitting the DL. He may only make a few more starts this season if he doesn't return until September, and at this point it may not be worth holding onto him. If you have an open DL spot it is ok to keep him on, but if you need roster room it would be safe to let him go.
The Padres expect Chris Young (right shoulder inflammation) to return soon after the All-Star break, according to MLB.com.
While Young had not been good before he went out, the Padres rotation has been decimated by injuries and the towering right-hander's return should provide a huge boost. Even though he has struggled in 2009 so far, the career 3.87 ERA pitcher could be a good fantasy option down the stretch.
Chris Young (right shoulder inflammation) isn't likely to return from the disabled list before the All-Star break, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Young has been ineffective in 2009, walking nearly as many batters, 40, as he has struck out, 50. You may want to lower your expectations for his return if you have him stashed in deeper leagues.
The North County Times is reporting that the Padres will likely place starter Chris Young on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation. Young is expected to miss at least two starts with the injury.
Young was not expected to need a trip to the DL, but apparently the Padres decided to take the safer route. Young probably could have made his second start, but the team isn't taking any chances, so they opted for a DL stint. Expect him to be back when the DL stint is up, which should only have him missing two starts.
Despite missing his next start, Chris Young should be able to avoid the disabled list according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
An MRI showed no structural damage in Young's inflamed right shoulder. He says he hopes to be out about ten days.
Chris Young will miss at least one start because of an undisclosed shoulder ailment according to the Associated Press.
Young has been hit hard in his last four starts and has not been the same pitcher since a ball hit by Albert Pujols last May fractured a bone in his face. He is not a viable fantasy pitcher at this point, and may never be again.
Chris Young was hammered for the second straight start on Sunday as the Padres fell to the Angels 6-0. Young only lasted 2.1 innings and he allowed five runs on four hits while walking five.
Young is really struggling right now, and the five walks is a terrible sign. Fantasy owners need to think about finding another option at this point, because Young cannot be relied upon.
Chris Young was lit up for five earned runs on six hits over five innings in Tuesday's 6-4 loss at Los Angeles. He had one walk and one strikeout, and gave up four homers.
Young now has a losing record at 4-5 following tonight's disatrous outing. He has taken a loss in three straight starts.
Chris Young took a tough loss on Friday as he allowed just one earned run on two hits over six innings. The difference however was that Young allowed two unearned runs and walked sis batters as the Padres were shut out by the Rockies 3-0.
Young hasn't looked great this season. He's shown flashes of being the dominant pitcher we remember, but lacks consistency in 2009. He owns eight quality starts this year, but when he's off, well, he gets rocked.
Chris Young tossed seven innings on Sunday and allowed just two runs on four hits in the Padres' 7-2 win over the Cubs. The big right-hander improved to 4-2 on the season and struck out four without walking a man.
Young has had a roller coaster season, but looked very good in his last two outings. He has allowed just three runs over 13 innings during that stretch and earned victories in both starts.
Chris Young allowed just one run on five hits and three walks in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants. He won his third game of the season and struck out six on the night.
This was a nice bounce-back effort for Young who struggled his last three times out. He's got great stuff and his only real problem in the past was run support, so look for a continued trend of success over his next cluster of outings.
Chris Young got lit up by the Cubs on Wednesday en route to his second loss of the season. He allowed four homers, six runs, six hits and three walks over just four innings as the Padres fell 6-4.
Young started the season with a bang, but three bad starts where he was shelled victimized his ERA, which now stands at a bloated 5.56. He's a talented hurler, so expect him to figure it out before too long.
Chris Young pitched well on Thursday but did not factor into the decision as the Padres beat the Diamondbacks in ten innings. Young went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out six.
Young had a much better start today than he did in his last outing. Although he did not factor into the decision, he was decent and he remains an option in mixed leagues and a good option in NL-only leagues.
Chris Young lasted just three innings in Monday's 12-7 loss in Colorado. He surrendered eight runs on seven hits and five walks, while striking out three.
Young has looked like an ace in three of his five starts this season, and been terrible in two others. This type of pitcher is among the most frustrating players to own in fantasy sports, and we suspect he'll have more good starts than bad ones this season. Of particular concern is the nine free passes he has recorded in his last two games. Also, the Rockies stole eight bases off of him and Nick Hundley tonight.
Chris Young rebounded from a rough start against Philadelphia with seven shutout innings against the Giants on Wednesday. He allowed two hits, four walks, and struck out three, but the Padres eventually lost the game 1-0.
Young has looked very good in three out of four starts this season. He is 2-0 at home and has finished with two no-decisions on the road. He should remain a solid performer going forward this season.
Pitcher Chris Young was rocked by the Phillies on Friday night. He served up nine hits and seven runs over 3.2 innings. The effort included two walks, two strikeouts, five extra-base hits, and three steals allowed.
Young was sharp over his first two outings of the season, both of which came in pitcher-friendly PETCO Park. He was shaky this spring and clearly didn't have his best stuff tonight. Chalk it up as a bad outing against a very good lineup.
Chris Young looked sharp over seven shutout innings in the Padres 6-1 win over the Giants on Sunday. He struck out seven hitters while allowing four hits and one unearned run.
Young was butchered throughout the spring, but he has looked good while winning his first two games of the regular season. He knows how to get strikeouts and has 12 through 13 innings in 2009.
Chris Young allowed two runs and five hits in six innings on Tuesday as the Padres doubled up the Dodgers 4-2 on Tuesday.
Young's first start was an encouraging one, in that he proved he can once again provide the Padres with a nice one-two punch with Jake Peavy at the front of the rotation. Together, the pair has allowed five earned runs and struck out 13 batters in 13 innings this season.
Chris Young and the Padres fell to the Giants 11-10 as Young managed just 0.2 innings, giving up six earned runs on seven hits.
Young walked two and struck out just one. He had been dealing with tendinitis in his elbow, so we'll see if that was bothering him during this start.
Chris Young has been scratched from Wednesday's start as a precaution for tendinitis in his elbow, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Young is not concerned with the ailment, and noted that he would be pitching if this was the regular season. Young's fantasy stock should not drop as of now.
Chris Young lost his second game of the spring Sunday. He allowed four runs on five hits in just two innings.
Given he stays healthy and makes it to the 30-start mark this season, Young will be a steady, if not overly impressive, fantasy option for many owners this season. The 6'10" typically gives up very few hits, seldom walks hitters, and had a respectable 1.29 WHIP a season ago.
Starter Chris Young pitched a flawless inning of work Thursday as San Diego and Seattle decided to call it quits after finishing 10 innings tied at four runs apiece.
Young, who has established himself as a nice complement to ace Jack Peavy, seemingly must improve upon his numbers from an injury-ridden '08 season to compensate for a San Diego offense, which ranked dead last in all of baseball last season, that will likely struggle to score runs.
