Chien-Ming Wang will have his right shoulder examined by orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Monday, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:

The former 19-game winner is slated to throw a rehab game by April or May. Wang underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in June, and was sad to not be able to participate in the World Series.

July 31, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang has been moved to the 60-day DL by the Yankees, according to TSN.

Our View:

Wang underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder earlier in the week to repair a tear in the capsule. The Yankees are yet to speculate on his timetable to return in 2010.

July 29, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Chien-Ming Wang underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, according to the Associated Press. The procedure was performed to repair a tear in the capsule.

Our View:

The Yankees are waiting on reports from his surgery before setting a timetable for his return in 2010. He should be dropped in everything but keeper leagues.

July 29, 2009

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Chien-Ming Wang will undergo season ending shoulder surgery on Wednesday.

Our View:

This should come as no surprise to anyone really. Wang had a miserable season when he was healthy and has been virtually worthless since his foot injury last year. The Yankees likely won't consider him a fixture in their rotation moving forward, as he's not likely to ever regain his 2006-2007 form.

July 24, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang is slated to visit Dr. James Andrews in Alabama Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

There is belief that Wang may need surgery on his ailing right shoulder. The Yankees are not optimistic of getting him back before the end of the season.

July 23, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang has sought a second opinion on his ailing pitching shoulder, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Wang is still experiencing pain in his strained right shoulder, and it is uncertain if he will be able to return to the Yankees this season. Sergio Mitre is currently filling his spot in the rotation.

July 20, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang will be shut down until Friday after feeling tenderness in his biceps following a 30-pitch bullpen session today, according to the New York Times.

Our View:

It doesn't look like you'll be seeing Wang back in the Yankees' rotation at any point in the near future. Sergio Mitre is set to fill the No. 5 spot in New York's starting rotation on Tuesday and should have at least a few turns to prove worthy of the role.

July 18, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang has declared his troublesome right shoulder "pain free," according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:

Does it matter at this point? The Yankees struggling righty has no definite return date, and with his 9.64 ERA, injured or not, he probably shouldn't be in your 2009 plans going forward.

July 5, 2009

Updating a previous report, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that the Yankees have officially placed starter Chien-Ming Wang on the 15-day DL with a right shoulder strain. The team recalled Jonathan Albaladejo to take Wang's place on the roster.

Our View:

Wang's tumultuous season just keep getting worse. The Yankees have no idea how long to expect him to be out, but right now it seems like it is best for the team when he isn't on the hill. He should not be on anyone's fantasy roster, and he doesn't even look worth stashing on the DL.

July 4, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang is headed to the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, according to The Journal News.

Our View:

Wang strained the shoulder in the Yankees Saturday win over the Blue Jays. This just continues the miserable disaster his 2009 season has been. After his 5.1 inning, four run performance, his ERA stands at "just" 9.64. Sergio Mitre has been mentioned as a possible spot starter for Wang's next turn in the rotation, and Phil Hughes will not be reinserted into the Yanks rotation.

July 4, 2009

Updating a previous report, Blue Jays' beat writer Jordan Bastian is reporting on his Twitter page that Yankees' starter Chien-Ming Wang left the game with a right shoulder strain. He is set to undergo an MRI later today.

Our View:

So the injury is a shoulder strain, but we will know more after the MRI results come back. It's not looking great for Wang at this point, but stay tuned for more updates.

July 4, 2009

The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Yankees' starter Chien-Ming Wang left Saturday's start in the top of the sixth with an unspecified injury. On the previous pitch, Blue Jays' DH Adam Lind hit a go-ahead two-run homer.

Our View:

Jorge Posada noticed something was wrong with Wang, and after a meeting with the trainer he was pulled. We will keep you updated on the nature and severity of the injury as the news is released.

July 3, 2009

Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman tweets that the Phillies and Rangers are two teams that are interested in Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang.

Our View:

Wang has been a disaster for the Yankees this season. He's 1-6 with a 10.06 ERA and has spent time on the DL, but the Phillies and Rangers are still in the race in their respective divisions and are desperate for pitching help.

June 28, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang finally picked up his first win of 2009 on Sunday as the Yankees beat the Mets 4-2. Wang went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out three. He is now 1-6 on the year.

Our View:

Wang was pretty good tonight, and he finally looked more like the Wang of old. One good start is not enough to automatically throw him back into fantasy consideration, but it is a good start and it may be worth it to keep an eye on him.

June 23, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang gave up three earned runs on six hits over five innings in Tuesday's 4-0 loss at Atlanta. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:

Wang takes a loss, and remains winless at 0-6. He has an 11.20 ERA, and is not fit for fantasy duty.

June 18, 2009

After watching pitcher Chien-Ming Wang's last start on tape, Yankees' manager Joe Girardi has decided that Wang will remain in the rotation, according to MLB.com. Wang lasted only five innings in that start and allowed eight base runners.

Our View:

It may have been Wang's best start of the year, but that's only because all of his others were historically bad. Apparently Girardi saw something he liked on the tape, but we aren't nearly as convinced. Stay away from Wang at all cost right now.

June 17, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang fell to 0-5 when the Yankees lost 3-2 to the Nationals on Wednesday. He lasted five innings, allowed eight base runners, gave up three runs and struck out four hitters.

Our View:

This was Wang's best outing of the season, but it comes against the worst team in baseball. Tonight was the first time this season he managed to complete the fifth inning. Opponents are hitting .418 off of him this season.

June 12, 2009

The New York Post is reporting that Yankees' starter Chien-Ming Wang needs to have a good start on Wednesday or he will be taken out of the rotation. Wang currently has a 21.61 ERA through five starts.

Our View:

After announcing that Wang was going to remain in the rotation, manager Joe Girardi decided that remaining in the rotation qualifies as one more start. The one thing Wang has going for him is that start is against the lowly Nationals, but as bad as he has been this season there are a few high school teams out there who could chase him in four innings. Watch to see how he performs in this do-or-die game, but don't expect much.

June 11, 2009

ESPN.com reports that Chien-Ming Wang is expected to remain in the Yankees' rotation. The report also points out that Wang has the highest starter's ERA (21.61) through five starts since 1913. Again, he will remain in the rotation for the team with the highest payroll in American sports.

Our View:

Wang made two scoreless appearances in relief earlier this season. Rather than put him in a role where he had success, the Yankees have put Phil Hughes, a starting pitcher who is among the best prospects in the organization, in the bullpen.

June 10, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang fell to 0-4 on Wednesday as the Yankees lost to the Red Sox 6-5. He lasted only 2.2 innings while allowing four earned runs, three walks, and six home runs, including a home run.

Our View:

The start lowered Wang's ERA to 14.34 on the season. He still seems incapable of holding down a rotation spot for the Yankees. It remains to be seen if he will make his next scheduled outing.

June 10, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang will make his second start since being reinserted into the Yankees rotation on Wednesday night according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:

Manager Joe Girardi said he will be on a pitch count of 85-95 pitches. Wang has yet to have a good start in 2009, so it is probably best to leave him on your bench until he proves he is back to where he was before his injury last season. Otherwise, your weekly ERA or WHIP could be torpedoed in just one or two innings.

June 4, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang looked very much the same as he did early in the season on Thursday as he returned to the Yankees' rotation. Wang went 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five. He did not factor into the decision.

Our View:

So much for Wang's triumphant return to the rotation. The five strikeouts were nice, but other than that he was just not very good. Fantasy owners should run away unless you really believe he can turn it around. If you're going to hold on to him, do it at your own risk.

June 3, 2009

WFAN is reporting that Chien-Ming Wang will start for the Yankees on Thursday against the Texas Rangers and that Phil Hughes will be sent to the bullpen.

Our View:

If true, this is a huge reversal for the Yankees, who just Tuesday said Wang would remain out of the starting rotation for the foreseeable future. It is also a major letdown for Hughes owners as the right-hander had just recently put together his first string of good major league starts. Either way, Wang has been pitching well out of the bullpen and is worth a flier if not already owned in your league.

June 2, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang remains out of the Yankees' rotation and will not be starting Wednesday's game with Andy Pettitte slated to pitch, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Pettitte feels well enough to pitch, and the Yankees want to keep Phil Hughes in the fifth spot in the rotation. As of now, the Yankees do not have plans to work him back into the rotation. He shall remain patiently stashed on fantasy rosters.

June 1, 2009

The New York Post is reporting that the Yankees feel confident that Chien-Ming Wang can start on Wednesday if Andy Pettitte is unable to go. Wang has pitched five scoreless innings out of the bullpen since his return to the team.

Our View:

Wang has been impressive pitching out of the bullpen, and you would think he will make a return to the rotation at some point in the near future. Stll, don't expect it to be this week as Pettitte has said that he is very confident that he will be able to go when his turn comes up.

May 26, 2009

Skipper Joe Girardi indicated that Chien-Ming Wang needs to improve his consistency on his sinker before rejoining the Yankees' rotation, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:

Wang performed better while throwing three innings of relief Friday, but Girardi did not speculate when he may move back to the rotation. The club will use him as a starter if they need him.

May 22, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang made his return to the Yankees on Friday and worked three innings out of the bullpen. He gave up six hits and a walk while surrendering two runs and striking out two other hitters.

Our View:

The Yankees are keeping Phil Hughes up for now, and they are hoping Wang can show his old form out of the bullpen. However, his stuff is fading and when his sinker isn't dynamite, he's going to get crushed.

May 22, 2009

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Yankees have summoned Chien-Ming Wang back to New York to pitch out of the bullpen. Wang was scheduled to start for Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but the Yankees need his help in the bullpen after starter Joba Chamberlain was pulled in the first inning Thursday after being struck with a line drive in the knee.

Our View:

Wang will assume the role of long reliever tonight, but he figures to rejoin the rotation at some point next week. Wang has pitched pretty well in the minors, but his fantasy stock is very low right now. It's probably not worth taking a chance on him unless he proves he is back to his old self.

May 21, 2009

The Yankees are yet to decide if Chien-Ming Wang will make another rehab start in the minors or will rejoin their rotation, according to the New York Daily News. He has been recovering from hip abductor muscle weakness.

Our View:

Skipper Joe Girardi is expected to make a decision later today. The club expects him to be a key member of their rotation, but won't let him return until they feel he is fit.

May 19, 2009

The Times-Tribune.com is reporting that Chien-Ming Wang has cleared out his locker at Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and he is not listed on the upcoming rotation.

Our View:

It looks like Wang may be heading back to New York. He has been impressive in Triple-A, and apparently the Yankees feel he is ready to head back to the big city. He is a risky fantasy play at best right now, but he may be worth a flier if you have an open rotation spot.

May 18, 2009

MLB.com reports that Chien-Ming Wang will throw a bullpen session at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. Manager Joe Girardi will evaluate the starter's readiness based on the command of his sinker rather than his velocity. Wang was placed on the DL with weakness in both hips, and he has thrown 13 shutout innings in Triple-A.

Our View:

Wang was awful through his first three starts this season, but fantasy owners find it hard to forget his two 19-win seasons. He has very little strikeout ability and his fantasy value is moderate at best. The hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium does not figure to help his production.

May 18, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang threw seven scoreless innings in his rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. He is recovering from hip abductor muscle weakness.

Our View:

Wang threw 75 pitches without a problem, and could be ready to return to the Yankees' rotation. Wang has been a solid pitcher for New York before struggling over three starts this season, and could prove to be a steal if you can acquire him for a low price right now.

May 12, 2009

The New York Daily News is reporting that Chien-Ming Wang may need more than one rehab start before making his return to the Yankees. He is scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday in Triple-A Scranton.

Our View:

Manager Joe Girardi was hoping Wang would be ready to return after Tuesday's start, but GM Brian Cashman indicated that there is no rush with Wang and that two starts may be in his best interest. Wang should be utilized in fantasy circles very carefully upon his return, but if he is back to his old self he could be a real value.

May 11, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to make his next rehab start on Tuesday, according to the Star-Ledger. He is recovering from hip adductor muscle weakness.

Our View:

Wang is expected to throw 100 pitches, and could return to the Yankees' rotation if he performs well in his outing.

May 7, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang struck out seven batters over five innings of work in an extended spring training game on Thursday, according to MLB.com. He allowed three hits and no runs in the game. Wang is recovering from a hip injury that placed him on the DL. He is scheduled to throw 100 pitches in his next start on Tuesday.

Our View:

If Wang shows well next Tuesday, it is possible that he could rejoin the rotation five days later. Once he does come back, the Yankees will have to make a decision on what to do with Phil Hughes and the rest of their pitching staff.

May 3, 2009

According to the New York Daily News, the foot problem that caused Chien-Ming Wang to miss much of last season is also the reason for the weakness in his hip muscle this season.

Our View:

The Yankees think they have found the problem, and they hope Wang will be ready to pitch for the team sometime in the near future. Wang could be an interesting fantasy player in the coming months, because when he is on he's a very good fantasy pitcher. If you have an extra roster spot he may be worth an add, but don't start him until he shows his problems are behind him.

April 30, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang, who is dealing with hip abductor muscle weakness, has been cleared to throw as many as 65 pitches on Saturday in an extended spring training game, according to the Journal News.

Our View:

Wang could return to the Yankees' rotation in late-May, if his velocity returns to where it needs to be for him to be effective. He allowed 23 earned runs and six walks over six innings (three starts) this season.

April 27, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang threw in the outfield Monday as part of his rehab from weakness in his abductor muscle, according to the Associated Press. Wang threw in the outfield for around 10 minutes and did sprints.

Our View:

Yankees' VP Billy Connors noted that Wang did not experience any pain and did some drills that will bring his velocity back to where it needs to be. Wang could return to the Yankees' rotation in late-May.

April 25, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang has been placed on the 15-day DL due to an injury to his abductor muscles in both of his hips, according to TSN. Dave Roberts was recalled from the minors to take his roster spot.

Our View:

Wang is dealing with "weakness" in his hips which is the explanation that the team is going with to explain his putrid work this far (23 ER in just six IP). Look for him to return in three or so weeks at which time the team expects him to be healthy enough to at least resemble a major league pitcher again.

April 24, 2009

Updating a previous report, Chien-Ming Wang is still scheduled to start Tuesday despite rumors that his injured foot is the reason for his slow start, acording to ESPN.com. If he can't go Tuesday, it is expected that Phil Hughes will be called up to replace him.

Our View:

There have been rumors that Wang is headed to the DL, but he was examined by a soft tissue specialist, and the Yankees still plan to start him Tuesday. If he is on your roster, keep a close eye on how this situation develops. It is probably wise to sit him on Tuesday even if he does pitch, that is unless you can afford to risk a sky high ERA and WHIP early in the week.

April 24, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang may be headed to the 15-day DL, according to the New York Post. He will throw a bullpen session Saturday, and could then be placed on the DL to build up arm strength.

Our View:

Wang's velocity is not near the 93-94mph it was at a year ago, and his fastball is not sinking as it should. His slider has improved, but the aforementioned issues are why he is 0-3 with 23 earned runs allowed over a mere six innings of work. He should remain held out of fantasy lineups until further notice.

April 21, 2009

Newsday reports that Chien-Ming Wang will pitch in an extended spring training on Thursday. He is scheduled for 100 pitches and will be closely examined by the Yankees staff in order to determine why he has been so awful to start 2009. He will remain on the Yankees active roster.

Our View:

Wang has lasted only six innings through three starts and has a pitiful 34.50 ERA and 4.83 WHIP. It's still too early to say he is done, and he could still return to be an effective pitcher at some point this season. Given his start though, he probably shouldn't be on any fantasy league rosters.

April 20, 2009

As expected, the Yankees will indeed skip Chien-Ming Wang's next turn in the rotation, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

With on off-day on Thursday, this move was expected even before Monday's rain-out. "The confidence is still there," Wang said through an interpreter. "I know what I can do. I just haven't pitched up to my ability yet. Hopefully I can get my groove right." While it's good to see that Wang hasn't taken his rough start too harshly, he's simply been too bad to trust at this point, and frustrated owners can't be blamed if they choose to cut the chord on Wang for a hotter option. With his turn being skipped, Wang won't receive his next shot on the mound until the end of April

April 19, 2009

The Yankees have on off-day on Thursday, meaning Chien-Ming Wang could be skipped in the rotation, according to the New York Times.

Our View:

Wang has been nothing short of disastrous this season, making it seem highly likely that the Yankees will opt to skip his turn in the rotation against the rival Red Sox given that they can still keep all of their other starters on four days of rest. Wang is not hurt and is also out of minor league options, so it seems like New York will simply have to hope he straightens things out and put him out on the mound on April 28 against Detroit. It wouldn't be ludicrous to drop Wang at this point, and if you hang on to him, you certainly don't want to have him active in your lineup until he proves to be back on track.

April 18, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang was annihilated in his start on Saturday. Cleveland's bats lit him up to the tune of eight runs on eight hits in 1.1 innings. His slump continues and he's now 0-3 on the season.

Our View:

Something is not right here. Wang has bolstered the Yankees rotation for years now, but appears to be a different pitcher altogether. He now has a 34.50 ERA on the season.

April 15, 2009

The Star-Ledger is reporting that Chien-Ming Wang threw live batting practice before Wednesday's game in hopes of ending his current slump. He has surrendered 15 runs in his first two starts of the season.

Our View:

This is rather unusual, but anything that can be done to fix Wang is worth a try. Girardi seemed quite happy with the session, so hopefully this will help get Wang back to his winning ways.

April 13, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang lasted only one inning in Monday's 15-3 loss to the Rays. He gave up six hits and walked three more batters while allowing eight earned runs in the awful display of major league pitching.

Our View:

Wang is off to a dreadful start - as you may have determined by his 28.93 ERA. In the past he has been a very consistent and mostly effective pitcher. We would like to think that he will come around, but there's certainly plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

April 8, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang was roughed up by the Orioles on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks over just 3.2 innings. He was handed his first loss of the season.

Our View:

Wang should still be a quality fantasy hurler this season and is a strong candidate to amass a solid win total after full season marks of 19 and 19 in his last two healthy seasons. However, you will have to look for your strikeouts elsewhere as he owns a career K/9 mark of 4.02.

April 3, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang had a mediocre outing on Friday against the Cubs. He allowed four runs on six hits in five innings.

Our View:

The only good news for Wang on Friday was that he left in line for the win, but that's only because his counterpart, Ted Lilly, was getting the snot beat out of him and had to leave after four innings.

March 23, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang allowed three runs on five hits in five innings to take the loss against the Phillies on Monday. He is now 0-2 this spring.

Our View:

Wang has been inconsistent this spring, but he should be ready to go this season. Look for him to benefit from the presence of CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett at the top of the rotation, both of whom should allow Wang to fit nicely in the third spot.

March 18, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang had a bounce back start Wednesday against the Astros, allowing one run on three hits over five innings.

Our View:

Wang should be a solid fantasy starter and is a good bet to get to 15 wins with the Yankees' line up protecting him. If he stays healthy. His K-rate is a deterrent, but he makes up for it in other categories.

March 13, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang got shelled by the Red Sox Friday night, allowing seven runs on six hits in only an inning and two-thirds. Only one of those seven runs was earned.

Our View:

Chances are this outing is simply an isolated slip-up. Wang should be a solid fantasy starter yet again this season, barring injury, of course.

March 7, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang went three innings in the Yankees 3-1 loss to Atlanta on Saturday. He gave up three hits, walked none, and struck out two. The only run he allowed came on a Casey Kotchman solo home run.

Our View:

Wang has looked solid this spring, and the ankle injury that took him out last season will not a problem this year. He won't strike out many hitters, but he knows how to win games.

March 2, 2009

The Yankees former ace, Chien-Ming Wang, threw two scoreless innnings against the Astros Monday. He allowed two hits, zero walks and zero strikeouts, which is no surprise for Wang.

Our View:

No longer the top dog, due to big name free agent signings, Wang is still a valuable pitcher and could rack up decent win totals with the Yankees' line up on his side. Strikeouts and K/9 remain a concern.

February 3, 2009

Chien-Ming Wang threw off a mound for the first time this year after injuring his foot last season running the bases, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

The Yankees have declared Wang ready for spring training and that he will be 100 percent when the season begins. Wang won 19 games in both 2006 and 2007 and will be a key pitcher for the Yankees this season.
