Newsbreakers

October 22, 2009

Justin Morneau had surgery on Tuesday to remove a bone chip from his right wrist, according to Kelly Thesier of MLB.com. He will be ready to go by spring training.

Our View:

Morneau was shut down in September for a stress fracture in his lower back, but that should also be remedied over the offseason. He had 30 home runs and 100 RBI in 2009.

September 14, 2009

Justin Morneau is done for the remainder of the season due to a stress fracture in his lower back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

His 2009 campaign ends with 30 homers and 100 RBI. The Twins are only 5.5 games behind the Tigers for the lead in the AL Central standings, but will be hard-pressed to catch them now after losing their elite first baseman.

September 14, 2009

Justin Morneau will remain out of the Twins' lineup for tonight's game against Cleveland while recovering from a strained lower back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Michael Cuddyer will cover first base in his absence. Morneau remains day-to-day.

September 13, 2009

According to Joe Christensen via Twitter, Justin Morneau missed Sunday's game due to a strained back.

Our View:

This could explain Morneau's recent poor performance (.077 September average). He's scheduled to see a doctor on Monday, and is considered day-to-day for the time being, but there's no knowing how serious the injury is and how long he'll be out. We'll know more after he sees the doc tomorrow.

September 13, 2009

Justin Morneau is not in the Twins' lineup for their Sunday afternoon game against the A's. Michael Cuddyer will play first in Morneau's absence.

Our View:

Morneau has struggled a bit as of late, so he is probably just getting a day off to clear his head. He is still having a monster season, and he should be fine over the last month of the season.
