Sean Burnett is dealing with a left thumb contusion, and missed Monday's game against Milwaukee, according to MLBblogs.com.
The Nats are hopeful that he could be ready to pitch during their three-game set against the Cubs that begins Tuesday.
Sean Burnett blew a save on Wednesday in his first outing for the Nationals since being acquired from the Pirates, as the Nats fell 5-3 to the Marlins.
Burnett was acquired to help shore up a disastrous bullpen, but he only compounded its problems on Wednesday, giving up a game tying home run to Cody Ross in the seventh inning. Playing for the Nationals, he doesn't hold much value in leagues with holds or middle relievers.
Sean Burnett is part of a deal sending him and outfielder Nyjer Morgan to the Washington Nationals for outfielder Lastings Milledge and reliever Joel Hanrahan, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Hanrahan has struggled mightily in '09, and Milledge has spent the majority of the season in the minors, but this looks to be a good trade for the Bucs. Milledge still has loads of potential, while Hanrahan was a solid back end of the bullpen type reliever just last season. Burnett and Morgan are both having fine seasons, but the Pirates are getting real talent in return.
Sean Burnett has made the Pirates' opening day roster, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Burnett held a poor 1.61 WHIP over 56.2 innings in 2008, and does not merit fantasy consideration as a reliever.
