December 31, 2009

ESPN.com reports that the Padres are likely to trade Adrian Gonzalez at next season's trade deadline. He will command an impressive package of players and the more teams that are eyeing the playoffs, the better possible deal.

Our View:

The Padres are wise to wait, assuming that Gonzalez plays up to his standards to start next season. There are too many free-agent bats available now that have teams holding back their best possible offers.

December 30, 2009

Despite all the trade rumors, the Padres have actually had preliminary discussions with first baseman Adrian Gonzalez about a contract extension, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Our View:

However, Olney doesn't consider an extension with the Pads very likely. Gonzalez is locked up in San Diego through 2011.

December 25, 2009

It would be "virtually impossible" for the Padres to trade star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez before July, according to Peter Gammons on WEEI.

Our View:

Most believe the Pads could get considerably more at next summer's trading deadline for Gonzalez than they could in the relative calm of the offseason. Stay tuned.

December 20, 2009

FOXsports.com indicates that the Padres would be able to get more in return for Adrian Gonzalez at July's trade deadline rather than this offseason.

Our View:

The article writes that now interested GMs have the option of adding first basemen via free agency so they don't feel as desperate to part with their top prospects in return for Gonzalez. The Padres seem reluctant to part with him this winter and they would be wise to hold onto him until July.

December 19, 2009

GM Jed Hoyer won't "never say never" regarding moving Adrian Gonzalez, according to the Padres' official twitter page.

Our View:

MLB writer Corey Brock does not believe the elite first baseman will be traded though, as it would likely take a significant deal to ship him out of San Diego.

December 17, 2009

Padres owner Jeff Moorad says "there's nothing active, there's nothing on the table," in regards to Adrian Gonzalez trade talks, according to Corey Brock of MLB.com.

Our View:

Much of the Gonzalez trade talk has seemed to be the wishful thinking on behalf of the Boston media, and while A-Gone may indeed one day be traded, with him being under contract for two more very cheap years, it will likely be somewhere further down the line.

December 16, 2009

The Orioles have apparently thrown their hat into the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes, according to Gordon Edes of ESPN.

Our View:

They made a "pretty good run at him" during the winter meetings, Edes says. Recent reports have suggested the Pads aren't inclined to deal him, but if they were, it would most likely be to the Red Sox. Stay tuned.

December 16, 2009

A source close to Adrian Gonzalez believes the Padres slugger will be headed to Boston within the next 10 days, according to ESPN's Jorge Arangure.

Our View:

The Red Sox have already signed Mike Cameron and made an even bigger splash by landing John Lackey, and a potential acquisition of Gonzalez would put the icing on the cake on their offseason activity. A trade between Boston and San Diego is still far from actually happening, but this potential deal does seem to be picking up some momentum, so stay tuned. It's unknown exactly what pieces Boston would include in the deal, though Clay Buchholz would likely be involved.

December 16, 2009

Boston's front office continues to work hard to try and work out a deal for Adrian Gonzalez, according to Fox Sports.

Our View:

The interest is clearly there on Boston's side, though no deal is imminent at the moment. Stay tuned, as Gonzalez could be in line for a major boost in value if he indeed leaves San Diego's spacious home ball park and weak lineup to be surrounded by Boston's loaded supporting cast.

December 14, 2009

As of now, talks between the Padres and Red Sox regarding Adrian Gonzalez are not progressing, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:

San Diego desires Clay Buchholz and pitching prospect Casey Kelly or outfielder Ryan Westmoreland in exchange for the star first baseman - but Boston is not willing to part with those players.

December 10, 2009

Updating an earlier item, ESPN's Jayson Stark says that while the Padres will "listen" to any offer for star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, they have shown "no motivation to trade him."

Our View:

Sounds about right. Gonzalez is still young, productive and affordable, making him a perfect small market player. The team may be forced to deal him eventually, but his market should only continue to increase in size, so there is no need for a sense of urgency.

December 10, 2009

The Mariners have entered the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes, according to Fox Sports.

Our View:

However, just in an exploratory fashion. Talks are currently not "advancing toward a deal." While Gonzalez is still said to be available "in the right deal," his most likely 2010 destination is the one he is already at.

December 6, 2009

Corey Brock of MLB.com does not believe that Adrian Gonzalez will get traded at baseball's annual winter meetings this week.

Our View:

Good news for Padres fans, and he says he believes it's unlikely he'll get traded at all this offseason. He does expect the Pads to make some moves this week, however, and did not rule Heath Bell getting moved. Stay tuned.

December 6, 2009

The Chicago Tribune reports that both Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and closer Heath Bell could both be traded at this week's winter meetings.

Our View:

A flurry of activity is expected in Indianapolis, and there should be a frenzy over San Diego's affordable, franchise first baseman if he is truly avaialble. Expect many more updates as the week ambles on.

November 27, 2009

Chad Finn of the Boston Globe predics that Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will be playing first and batting third for the Red Sox on opening day in 2010.

Our View:

This is certainly a story that refuses to die, likely lending credence to the old cliche "where there's smoke, there's fire." Like an only child with rich, loving parents, what Boston wants, Boston usually gets, so if they decide this offseason that A-Gone is theirs, then he will be theirs.

November 8, 2009

It would take a knockout offer to entice the Padres to trade Adrian Gonzalez this offseason, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View:

Rosenthal says it would probably take major league players, and not just prospects. With Gonzalez having two extremely affordable years left on his contract, it's highly unlikely he'll be moved this winter.

October 4, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the Padres 2-0 win over the Giants on Saturday.

Our View:

A-Gon now has 99 RBI this season and needs one tally in tomorrow's regular season finale to reach his third consecutive season with 100.

September 27, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez cracked his 40th home run of the season in a 7-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Sunday. He finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Our View:

The 40-homer campaign is the first of the young slugger's career and he is just two RBI away from his third straight season of reaching the century mark.

September 27, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks in the Padres 8-5 loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Our View:

Gonzalez is enjoying a fine month of September to cap another solid season in San Diego. With one more home run and four more RBI he'll reach the 40-100 mark for the first time in his impressive young career. He also reached the 100-walk plateau for the first time in 2009 with 110.

September 25, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI in tonight's 4-0 win at Arizona.

Our View:

Gonzalez has 19 RBI this month, and continues to lead the Padres with 95. He is trying to reach 100 RBI for the third straight season.

September 22, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI in the Padres 11-10 nail-biting loss to the Rockies on Tuesday.

Our View:

A-Gon is finishing the season on a high note. He's already driven in 17 this month, popped five homers and scored 12 runs. Not bad for the lone soldier in San Diego's offense.

September 21, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer off Daniel McCutchen in Monday's 11-6 win at Pittsburgh. The battle lasted 12 innings.

Our View:

Gonzalez swatted his fifth homer of September, and his 39th of 2009. He is on the verge of reaching 40 homers in a season for the first time in his career.

September 18, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 0-for-3 with an RBI in tonight's 5-1 loss at Pittsburgh. His RBI came on a sacrifice fly.

Our View:

The Padres only mustered six hits, and the star first baseman was their lone source of scoring. He has 12 RBI this month, and leads San Diego with 89.

September 16, 2009

Pinch hitting in the ninth inning of his day off on Wednesday, Adrian Gonzalez delivered a game-tying two run homer, spurring the Padres to a 6-5 ten-inning win over Arizona at home.

Our View:

The homer upped his career-high 2009 total to 38, while the two RBI leave him 12 short of his third straight 100-RBI campaign with 15 games to go.

September 16, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez got the day off on Wednesday for the Padres. Gonzalez is dealing with some soreness in his shoulder, but he is expected to be fine for the team's next game.

Our View:

Nothing to worry about here. The team is off tomorrow, so they took advantage by giving their best player the day off today as well. He should be in the lineup Friday, so make sure he is in your lineup.

September 13, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Rockies. He recorded a single, double and triple, but was missing the home run for the always entertaining cycle.

Our View:

Gonzalez is hitting .317 this month and has hit three homers while driving in nine. He's up to 86 RBI on the season and needs just 14 more for his third straight campaign with 100.

September 13, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with his 86th RBI on Saturday night, helping San Diego to a 3-2, ten inning win over a red-hot Colorado team.

Our View:

Gonzalez now needs 14 RBI in the team's final 19 games to post his third straight 100-RBI season.

September 9, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez homered and drove in three on Wednesday, helping the Padres beat a fading Giants club 4-2 on the road.

Our View:

The homer was his 37th of the season, establishing a new career high. With 21 games to go, he is 15 RBI shy of his third straight 100-RBI campaign.

September 7, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Brad Penny in Monday's 9-4 loss at San Francisco.

Our View:

Gonzalez collected his 36th homer, tying his season output of 2008. He homered in each of his last two games.

September 6, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez hit his 35th home run of the season on Sunday night, helping the Padres beat the Dodgers 4-3 in Los Angeles.

Our View:

The home run was his first in nine games at Dodger Stadium this year. With 35 home runs, he is just one off of his career high he set last season.

September 5, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez was 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the Padres' 2-0 win over the Dodgers on Friday. Gonzalez is still hitting .271 on the season.

Our View:

Not a great night for A-Gone tonight, but he had a tough matchup against lefty-starter Clayton Kershaw. Gonzalez has been hot as of late for the most part, so tonight should be a performance we won't see much more.

September 2, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a pair of RBI in the Padres 7-0 win over the Nationals.

Our View:

A-Gon has now driven in 19 runs since August 2nd and turned his season around with last month's red hot performance (.362 average). Owners are hoping he stays hot down the stretch regardless of the Padres hopeless postseason chances.

August 31, 2009

The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that Padres' first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has been out of the starting lineup for the last two games with a biceps injury. He pinch-hit on Sunday, and he expects to return to the lineup this week.

Our View:

Gonzalez is one of the iron men of the sport, and he had played in 314 consecutive games before sitting out Saturday. He should be fine to return in the next few days, and we will keep you updated on his status for tonight's game against the Nats.

August 26, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Wednesday, as the Padres romped over the Braves 12-5 on the road.

Our View:

A-Gone now has 17 RBI in August after posting just 12 in July. With 77 on the season, he's good bet to post third straight 100-RBI year.

August 19, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez hit his 33rd home run of the season in the Padres' 6-3 win over the Cubs on Tuesday. It was his only hit in three at-bats.

Our View:

Gonzalez is in a groove right now. The slugging first baseman has three homers in his last four games and is hitting well over .400 for the month.

August 17, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to TSN. Gonzalez earned the honor by leading the majors with a .633 batting average, 10 runs scored, 33 total bases, a 1.100 slugging percentage and a .645 OBP. He also generated three homers and eight RBI.

Our View:

Gonzalez has been named the player of the week twice this season, and three times in his career.

August 16, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez mashed his 32nd home run Sunday as part of a 4-for-5 day at the plate. He had a third of the Padres hits in their 7-5 loss to the Cardinals.

Our View:

A-Gon is white hot right now. He's homered in back to back contests and finished the three game set with the Cardinals with eight hits. The Padres' slugger is raking at a .470 clip this month.

August 15, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 7-3 loss at St. Louis. He hit two singles and a solo homer off Joel Pineiro.

Our View:

Gonzalez hit a homer in two of his last three games, and currently ranks third in the NL with 31. He is riding a seven-game hitting streak as well.

August 13, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez stayed hot on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, but the Padres got outslugged 12-9 in Milwaukee.

Our View:

Gonzalez has 11 hits and six RBI in his last three games, all in Milwaukee, and has raised his average from .251 to .268. Too bad for his fantasy owners that he won't be able to feast on Brewers pitching anymore.

August 11, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went a career best 6-for-6 on Tuesday night, driving in three runs in the process, as the Padres embarrassed the Brewers 13-6 at home.

Our View:

Since ending his consecutive games played streak at 314 on August 4 because of tired legs, Gonzalez has gone 10-for-15 (.667) with one home run and six RBI. It looks safe to say the day of rest did him some good.

August 7, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez continued his resurgence on Thursday, hitting a third inning home run, and driving in three total, as the Padres beat the Mets 8-3.

Our View:

After hitting zero home runs between June 23 and July 20, the slugging first baseman has rediscovered his stroke and hit four. Look for him finish up the season in the neighborhood of 40 home runs and 100 RBI.

July 31, 2009

Ken Rosenthal, via MLB Network, reports that the Dodgers are talking with the Padres regarding Adrian Gonzalez and possibly closer Heath Bell. Any deal would include James Loney and a number of other talented players.

Our View:

This would be a blockbuster for sure as the Dodgers are lacking in the power department. It's not certain why they would be pursuing Bell as their bullpen has generally been effective all season and they acquired George Sherrill yesterday. We'll keep you posted.

July 31, 2009

The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox and Padres are expected to discuss a deal for Adrian Gonzalez up until the trade deadline on Friday. The Padres are asking for a mix of Clay Buchholz, Lars Anderson, Jed Lowrie, and Justin Masterson.

Our View:

It's impossible to imagine how bad the Padres would be without Gonzalez, but if they can get an impressive enough package for him then this deal could get done. If the Red Sox could acquire him, they would likely shift Kevin Youkilis to third base and make Mike Lowell a reserve.

July 30, 2009

The Red Sox remain interested in Adrian Gonzalez and talked to the Padres Wednesday night, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Our View:

Trade talks for the star first baseman are expected to continue today. Adam LaRoche and Mike Lowell would see less action down the stretch if Gonzalez is acquired by Boston.

July 29, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez continued to get back on track Wednesday night, homering for the third straight game, as the Padres won 7-1 in Cincinnati.

Our View:

A-Gone had just one home run since June 23 before his recent outburst. In case you were amazingly deep at first base and had been benching him, by all means, get him back in your lineup ASAP.

July 27, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a double in tonight's 6-4 loss at Cincinnati.

Our View:

Gonzalez hit his third homer this month, and his team-leading 26th of the season, which also now ties him for second in the NL with Raul Ibanez and Mark Reynolds.

July 27, 2009

After initially being given the day off on Sunday, Adrian Gonzalez came in for defensive purposes in the seventh inning, and set the Padres consecutive games played record, at 306, in the process, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:

Gonzalez's streak is also the current longest one in the majors. After a huge start in 2009, he has tailed off considerably, as his Pads teammates have been able to provide little protection for him. After hitting his 24th home run on June 23, he has hit just one, and collected only eight RBI.

July 26, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez is not in the Padres' lineup for the Sunday afternoon game against the Nationals. He will be replaced by Oscar Salazar at first base.

Our View:

This looks to be a routine day off for Gonzalez, as no injury has been reported. He has been struggling mightily in July, so maybe this is just a rest day to get him going again. He still has 25 homers, and he is a good enough hitter to break out of this slump and finish strong.

July 23, 2009

The Red Sox would reportedly like to acquire Padres' star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:

Apparently the Sox are not done targeting corner infielders after getting Adam LaRoche from Pittsburgh. The Sox inquired about Gonzalez, but their offers have been turned down so far. The Padres did not state that they have desire to move Gonzalez, who is the cornerstone of their offense.

July 20, 2009

The Boston Globe is suggesting that Padres' first baseman Adrian Gonzalez would be a good fit with the Red Sox. The team could use a first baseman, thus allowing Kevin Youkilis to shift to third to make up for the loss of the injured Mike Lowell.

Our View:

The lefty Gonzalez could enjoy driving the ball the other way in Boston, but it seems highly unlikely the Padres will move him. His contract is affordable, and right now he is the only reason people in San Diego come to the park. Look for Gonzalez to stay put unless someone absolutely blows the Padres away with a trade offer.

July 17, 2009

MLB.com reports that Padres' slugger Adrian Gonzalez will be given random off days in the second half of the season.

Our View:

This move is likely designed to keep Gonzalez from getting hurt, but could also be related to the fact that he's slumped significantly since June 1st. The big first baseman is the most important hitter on the team and is also the Padres' most valuable trade chip. He has started 297 consecutive games, but that streak will come to a close soon as the organization wants to play it safe with him. He has just six hits in July, hasn't homered since June 23rd and has seen his average dip from .285 to .248 since June 19th. Looks like he could use a few days.

July 11, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a single in tonight's 2-1 loss at San Francisco.

Our View:

The Padres only had seven hits in the game, and left 13 men on base. Gonzalez has now gone 18 games without a homer, and holds a dismal .143 average over 42 at-bats so far in July.

July 6, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez has lost some of his main protection in the lineup with the Padres trade of Scott Hairston.

Our View:

Gonzalez has already seen his power numbers drop as fewer teams pitch to him, and now that Hairston and his team third best ten home runs will no longer be hitting near him in the lineup, he will likely see even fewer good pitches.

July 5, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez has been chosen as an All-Star reserve for the NL, according to MLB.com. He will be joined on the team by fellow infielders Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Orlando Hudson, Freddy Sanchez, Miguel Tejada, and Ryan Zimmerman, outfielders Brad Hawpe, Hunter Pence, and Justin Upton, and catcher Brian McCann.

Our View:

Gonzalez is one of four first baseman who will represent the NL in the midsummer classic. The competition at the position was the deepest in the league, but manager Charlie Manuel decided to bring all four players.

July 4, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Padres 6-3 loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

Our View:

A-Gon has been mired in a monster slump lately. He hasn't homered since June 23rd and hasn't had a multi-hit game since June 18th. He's seen his average fall all the way to .265, and one of the game's brightest stars the first two months of the season has considerably dwindled.

July 1, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez is in the lineup Wednesday night, one day after injuring his knee sliding into third base, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:

He doesn't appear to have any lingering effects from the slide, and there is no reason to hold him out of your lineup tonight.

July 1, 2009

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, slugger Adrian Gonzalez does not plan to have an MRI on his knee and may get into the lineup for Wednesday's game.

Our View:

A-Gon injured his knee in Tuesday's game sliding into third base and was removed immediately after. He was sore today, but doesn't feel it's bad enough to keep him out of the lineup. We'll stay on top of his status, as right now it looks like he'll be a game-time decision.

June 30, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez exited tonight's battle against the Astros in the fourth inning with a right knee injury, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Rookie Kyle Blanks replaced him in the lineup. The severity of Gonzalez's injury is yet to be determined.

June 24, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez hit his 24th home run of the season on Tuesday, helping power the Padres to a 9-7 win over the Mariners.

Our View:

Gonzalez has cooled since his off-the-charts May, but is likely due for another hot streak soon. If you are in a smaller league with ridiculous first base depth and haven't been starting him, now might be the time to reinsert into your lineup.

June 18, 2009

The Padres Adrian Gonzalez snapped his twelve game homerless streak on Thursday and went 4-for-4 as the Padres beat the Mariners 4-3 in ten innings.

Our View:

Since his late May home run explosion, Gonzalez hasn't seen many pitches to hit, but he hit every one he got on Thursday. He is now tied with Albert Pujols for the major league home run lead with 23.

June 4, 2009

Padres first basemen Adrian Gonzalez did not homer for the first time in four games on Wednesday.

Our View:

Gonzalez has been on an epic tear of late, homering in seven of his last 11 games. His major league leading total of 22 is made all the more impressive by the fact that he his hit only seven of them at home in the cavernous Petco Park. If Gonzalez played in a more homer friendly park, say the new Yankee Stadium, he might currently be on pace to break the single season record. Alas, he will probably have to settle for just leading the league in 2009.

June 3, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with a homer in Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Phillies at Petco Park. He drew three walks as well.

Our View:

Gonzalez has homered in three straight games, and continues to lead the majors with 22.

June 2, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-3 loss to Philadelphia at Petco Park. He drew two walks as well.

Our View:

Gonzalez hit his MLB-leading 21st homer of the season, with 15 coming away from pitcher-friendly Petco. He has homered in three straight games.

June 1, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez and Ryan Howard have been co-named the NL Player of the Week, according to the Sports Network. Both players tied for the league lead with four home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Our View:

This marks the second time Gonzalez has earned the weekly honor, the last time coming in July 2006. Gonzalez became the first player in the majors to reach 20 homers this season, despite playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

May 31, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez became the first player to reach 20 home runs in 2009, going 2-for-4 with a three-run shot in the third inning against Colorado on Sunday. He also added a walk and was caught stealing.

Our View:

Gonzalez now has five home runs in his past nine games and continues to be one of the premier power hitters in the league. He jacked 24 home runs in 2006 and improved by six to 30 and then 36 in each of the following two years. At this pace, it looks like he could end up far above 42 and well into the 50s.

May 30, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Saturday's 8-7 loss at Colorado.

Our View:

He hit his third homer over his last five games, and has 19 for the season - which currently leads the majors. 14 were launched away from pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

May 27, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Padres.

Our View:

A-Gon now has 18 bombs on the season and leads the majors in that category. He continues to produce in a hitter's graveyard, surrounded by nobody's in the lineup. Just imagine him in Texas or New York.

May 27, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against Arizona due to flu-like symptoms, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

He was able to play in the game as he pinch hit in the eighth inning. Gonzalez, who co-leads the majors with 17 home runs, should not miss much time with the illness.

May 25, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez tied Raul Ibanez with his 17th home run of the season in Monday's 9-7 win over Arizona. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Our View:

Gonzalez has been a monster in an impotent lineup this season. He ranks first in home runs, fifth in runs scored, but just 10th in RBI (all in the NL) despite hitting cleanup for San Diego.

May 16, 2009

According to MLB.com, Adrian Gonzalez has homered in five consecutive games and is one shy of setting the franchise record.

Our View:

A-Gon could tie current record holder, Graig Nettles, with a blast in today's game against the Reds. His 15 homers are currently the most in major league baseball.

May 14, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez continued his power onslaught on Thursday in the Padres' 11-3 loss to the Cubs. Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with his 14th homer of the season.

Our View:

Gonzalez is simply pounding the ball so far in 2009. He already has 14 bombs, and the power doesn't appear to be going anywhere. He is one of the top first basemen in the league, and he should be considered as a top three option at the position.

May 13, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez belted two home runs in the Padres rain-shortened 6-4 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game.

Our View:

A-Gon is now tied for the Major League lead in home runs (13) and is living up to his potential as one of the top fantasy first basemen. Surrounding lineup be damned. Gonzalez has a .307 average and 27 RBI to go along with his 13 bombs.

May 12, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with his 11th home run of the season on Tuesday. It was a two-run shot off Rich Harden, but that was all the runs the Padres could muster as they fell 6-2 to the Cubs.

Our View:

Get used to days like this. Gonzalez was the only Padre to drive in a run or collect multiple hits. Such is life when you have no supporting cast. He will see more and more walks as the players around him struggle.

May 8, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez went 0-for-4 on Friday, stranding two runners in the Padres' 2-0 loss to the Astros.

Our View:

Wandy Rodriguez had A-Gon's number in this one and the slugger had a rare O-fer. His average dipped to below .300, but it should shoot back up soon. Gonzalez is still a premier player at first base in all fantasy formats.

April 29, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk, three RBI, and two runs scored as the Padres fell to the Rockies 7-5 on Wednesday. He now has nine home runs on the season.

Our View:

It's fairly impressive that Gonzalez has only drawn 14 walks through 21 games. Chase Headley is "protecting" him in the lineup for now. Headley was 0-for-4 with a strikeout today. For now, pitchers continue to offer Gonzalez strikes for him to pound over the fences.

Adrian Gonzalez is keeping pace with Albert Pujols in the home run department. He blasted his seventh on Sunday, tying him for the league lead. He was 2-for-3 in the Padres' 8-3 loss.

Our View:

Gonzalez is now hitting .323 with seven homers and 16 RBI this season. He's the only real threat in San Diego's lineup and although he won't see a lot of juicy pitches this season, he's making the most of his opportunities.

Adrian Gonzalez went deep on Saturday night in San Diego's 8-5 win over the Phillies. He was 1-for-2 on the day, but drove in two, scored two runs and drew three walks.

Our View:

The Padres main threat will have to get used to being pitched around this season (much like Albert Pujols in St. Louis), but he's making the most of it when gets to swing the bat. He now has four homers and ten RBI on the season.

Adrian Gonzalez hit his third home run in the ninth inning of the Padres' 7-2 loss to the Mets on Wednesday. It was his only hit on the day.

Our View:

The home run was meaningless for the Padres, but nice for fantasy owners. Gonzalez has decent numbers to start the year, but he the only true offensive threat on the Padres and will be pitched around much more than fantasy owners would like.

Adrian Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the White Sox. It was his third of the season.

Our View:

Fantasy owners are expecting big things from Gonzalez this year. They only wish he had a better supporting cast. And more games away from spacious Petco Park, while we're wishing for things. Still, he will produce and is a great option at first base.

Adrian Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Indians. He is hitting an impressive .375 on the spring season.

Our View:

Gonzalez will most likely get pitched around quite a bit this year, as he is the only truly imposing bat in the Padres lineup, but he is an RBI machine and has steadily increased his home run totals the last three seasons. He is a solid fantasy option at first base.

Adrian Gonzalez hit his first official home run of the spring on Tuesday against the Angels. It was a two-run shot. Gonzalez swatted two long balls while playing for Mexico in the WBC.

Our View:

Gonzalez, 26, has increased his home run total from 24 to 30 to 36 over the last three seasons, and he may have a 40-spot in his near future. We continue to wish the Padres had more talent around him, but Adrian is a safe, solid fantasy pick.

Adrian Gonzalez crushed three opposite field homers Wednesday night in the Caribbean World Series, according to the Orange County Register. He is playing for the Mazatlan Venados.

Our View:

Gonzalez hit 36 homers with the Padres last season, and would have likely topped 40 if he didn't play his home games at pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

Our View:
