October 5, 2009

Most White Sox players do not believe the team is in store for "wholesale changes" this offseason, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

The Sox were expected to be a serious contender for the American League central division crown this season, but were never seriously in the race. That being said, they have a tremendous starting pitching staff in place for 2010 (anchored by Jake Peavy, Mark Buehrle, John Danks, Gavin Floyd), and some solid peaces in place on offense. General manager Ken Williams has proven to be one of the most creative in the game, and the team believes "he could make a splash with one key acquisition." It would be foolhardy to doubt it.

September 30, 2009

Mark Buehrle scattered three hits over six scoreless innings on Wednesday, picking up his 13th win of the season as the White Sox blanked the Indians 1-0 in the second game of a double-header.

Our View:

Buehrle finishes his 2009 season, which of course included a perfect game, 13-10 with a 3.84 ERA in 33 starts. It is the seventh time in his ten-year career that he has won at least 13 games.

September 29, 2009

Updating a previous report, Mark Buehrle is now saying he would like to pitch in one game of the White Sox/Indians double-header on Wednesday, and might not be done for the season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:

So don't drop him just yet. In three starts against the Indians this season, Buehrle is 1-2 with a 4.98 ERA.

September 29, 2009

Mark Buehrle has been shut down for the final week of 2009, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:

Since his perfect game on July 23, Buehrle had been mediocre in 12 starts, going just 1-7 with a 5.17 ERA. He has now thrown over 200 innings for nine straight seasons, and the White Sox may start limiting his workload in future years.

September 23, 2009

Mark Buehrle was tagged for five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 3.1 innings in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the rival Twins at U.S. Cellular Field. He had one walk and no strikeouts.

Our View:

Buehrle suffered his 10th loss of the season, and is 1-7 over his last 12 starts since hurling a perfect game against the Rays on July 23.

September 23, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that White Sox's pitcher Mark Buehrle will not be shut down before the end of the season. Manager Ozzie Guillen said that Buehrle will be making the rest of his scheduled starts this season.

Our View:

Buehrle hasn't had much injury trouble, so he should be fine to finish his last few starts. There really is no reason to shut him down, so expect him to make a few more starts before the end of the season.

September 18, 2009

Mark Buehrle was tagged for five earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Friday's 11-0 loss to the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field. He had four walks with four strikeouts.

Our View:

Buehrle is 1-2 with a 3.46 ERA over four starts this month, and only earned one win over his last 11 starts. As previously reported, the Sox are thinking about shutting him down soon as they tumble out of playoff contention.

September 18, 2009

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the White Sox are considering shutting down starting pitcher Mark Buehrle for the rest of the season. If the team is eliminated from playoff contention soon, Buehrle will likely be done for the year.

Our View:

The Sox don't appear to be going to the playoffs this season, so it seems very likely that Buehrle may be about done for the year. He has been a model of consistency over his career, and the team wants to make sure he remains healthy as they take a run to the division title next season. We will keep you updated on his status going forward.

September 13, 2009

Mark Buehrle allowed just two earned runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings on Sunday, but was saddled with a 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Our View:

Buehrle is now 12-8 on the season, but deserves better as he's notched four straight quality starts and holds just a 1-1 record over that span.

September 7, 2009

Mark Buehrle picked up his first victory since his perfect game on Monday as the White Sox beat the Red Sox 5-1. Buehrle went seven innings and allowed one run on eight hits while walking two and striking out four.

Our View:

It has to be nice to get that monkey off the back for Buehrle, as he has struggled mightily since the perfect game. Hopefully this start gets him back on track, and he is still having a excellent season at 12-7.

September 2, 2009

Mark Buehrle remained winless since his perfect game on Wednesday (a span of eight starts), but allowed just two runs in six innings, as the White Sox mounted a stunning rally off Joe Nathan to win 4-2 in Minnesota.

Our View:

Buehrle is now 0-4 with a 5.51 ERA since his historic outing on July 23. After collapsing down the stretch in 2007, Buehrle pitched very strongly in the season's final weeks in 2008, so it's hard to know just which pitcher will show up this month, though he has now thrown two straight quality starts.

August 28, 2009

Mark Buehrle held a slugging Yankees lineup to just two runs on eight hits and a pair of walks Friday, but didn't earn a decision as the Sox lost 5-2 in the tenth.

Our View:

Buehrle needed a positive outing as he had allowed nine runs in his last 11.1 innings spanning two starts. He's now been rocked five times since tossing his perfect game.

August 23, 2009

Mark Buehrle was rocked for five earned runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Orioles at U.S. Cellular Field. He had no walks and four strikeouts, and gave up two homers.

Our View:

Buehrle suffered his seventh loss of the season, and remains winless over his last six starts since throwing a no-hitter against Tampa Bay on July 23. He allowed five or more earned runs four times over that span, and hopefully he will get back on track soon for fantasy owners.

August 17, 2009

Mark Buehrle gave up four earned runs on nine hits over six innings in Monday's 8-7 win over the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field. He had two walks and no strikeouts.

Our View:

The Royals were leading 4-3 when Buehrle exits, so he ends the night with a no-decision rather than a win. He is winless over his last five starts since hurling a no-hitter against the Rays on July 23.

August 13, 2009

Mark Buehrle shut down the Mariners for eight innings on Wednesday, but didn't earn a win as Seattle won in walk-off fashion in the 14th inning. He allowed just six hits and walk.

Our View:

This was Buehrle's best start since his perfect game on July 23rd. He has allowed at least five runs in his previous three starts, so it's good to see him back on track.

August 7, 2009

Mark Buehrle was rocked for six runs (five earned) on 11 hits over 7.2 innings in Friday's 6-2 loss to the division rival Indians at U.S. Cellular Field. He had two walks and two strikeouts, and gave up two homers.

Our View:

Buehrle is now 0-3 since hurling a perfect game against Tampa Bay on July 23. He gave up 12 earned runs over his last two starts, and hopefully Chicago's ace hurler will get back on track soon for fantasy owners.

August 2, 2009

Mark Buehrle was far from perfect on Sunday afternoon. He allowed seven runs on 12 hits and a walk over just 4.1 innings and took the loss as Chicago fell to the Yankees 8-5.

Our View:

Since Buehrle's perfect game he has been touched significantly in both outings. After retiring a record 45 straight batter he has allowed 12 runs in his last five innings and has seen his ERA jump from 3.28 to 3.79.

July 28, 2009

Tuesday was a bittersweet night for White Sox' starter Mark Buehrle, as he was hit with the loss despite being perfect through 5.2 innings. Buehrle went 6.1 innings and allowed five runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. He also set the major league record with 45 straight batters retired spanning his last two starts.

Our View:

For a while tonight it was looking like we were going to witness history, as Buehrle was perfect into the sixth. The wheels fell apart with two outs in the inning, and he ended up taking the loss. The team will likely forgive him for this one after throwing his perfect game in his last start, but the celebration for his new ML record will probably be pretty somber after the loss.

July 27, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that White Sox' starter Mark Buehrle has been named the AL Player of the Week. Buehrle tossed a perfect game against the Rays on Thursday.

Our View:

Turns out, if you throw a perfect game, you have a pretty good chance at winning the player of the week award. Buehrle is very deserving of this honor, and now he has to do his best to duplicate it his next time out.

July 23, 2009

Chicago White Sox ace Mark Buehrle tossed a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon.

Our View:

Buehrle needed 116 pitches (76 were strikes) to mow down 27 straight Rays hitters. The White Sox staked him with four runs in the second inning and Buehrle took over from there. He fanned six in the game and recorded his second career no hitter, becoming just the 24th player in Major League history with multiple no-nos. The perfect game was his first.

July 18, 2009

Mark Buehrle enjoyed another strong outing, as he only issued one earned run on eight hits over 7.1 innings in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Orioles at U.S. Cellular Field. He had no walks with four strikeouts.

Our View:

Chicago's ace hurler collected his 10th win of the season, and trimmed his ERA to 3.52. He bounced back fine from his last outing when he was rocked for eight earned runs over 3.1 innings at Minnesota on July 12.

July 16, 2009

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the White Sox have decided to push Mark Buehrle's next start from Friday to Saturday after his participation in the All-Star game. John Danks will pitch Friday in Buehrle's place, moving up one day.

Our View:

Buehrle threw one inning on Tuesday night, and the Sox feel like they can give him an extra day of rest coming out of the break. Fantasy owners need to make sure Buehrle is in your lineup Saturday, as he is having another excellent year.

July 13, 2009

Mark Buehrle commented that he would like to play for the Cardinals one day, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He said, "If I could just put a Cardinals jersey on for one day, throw one pitch. That would just be a dream come true."

Our View:

Buehrle would like to play for St. Louis one day, as he was born in St. Charles, Missouri. The 30-year-old lefty will represent the American League for the second time in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Busch Stadium.

July 12, 2009

Mark Buehrle got shelled by the Twins on Sunday. He allowed eight runs on ten hits and a walk before getting yanked after just 3.1 innings. He took the loss as Sox got mashed 13-7.

Our View:

This was hands down Buehrle's worst start of the season. His ERA jumped from 3.14 to 3.66 and the loss dropped him to 9-3. Aside from today's hiccup, the Southsider's ace has been fantastic this season.

July 7, 2009

Mark Buehrle allowed three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Tuesday's 10-6 win over the rival Indians at U.S. Cellular Field. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:

He was tagged for two homers, but still had a solid outing as he earned his team-leading ninth win of the season. He has not taken a loss over his last six starts, and also continues to lead the Sox with a 3.14 ERA.

July 4, 2009

Thanks to a slight tweak in the rotation, White Sox' ace Mark Buehrle will make two more starts before the All-Star break, according to MLB.com. Buehrle was originally scheduled to start Wednesday, but instead he has been moved up to Tuesday which will allow him to return on Sunday.

Our View:

Buehrle has been his typical self this season, solid and durable. While this move puts a damper on his chances to go to the All-Star game, it will be much better for the team if he can get an extra start before the break. Adjust your lineups accordingly.

July 2, 2009

Mark Buehrle had his longest outing of the season on Thursday, tossing 8.1 effective innings as the White Sox beat the Royals 4-1.

Our View:

Put simply, Mark Buehrle is just doing what he always does this season - winning games and eating up innings. Through 16 starts he's hurled 107.2 innings, and won eight games for the South Siders, all the while posting a 3.09 ERA. Look for him in a potential birth at this month's All-Star game in St. Louis.

June 27, 2009

Mark Buehrle was not sharp against the Cubs on Saturday, giving up three earned runs (five total) off six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Our View:

Expect the resilient Buehrle to bounce back in his next start and remain a dependable yet unspectacular fantasy starter going forward.

June 21, 2009

Mark Buehrle dominated the Reds on Sunday afternoon, tossing seven shutout innings and earning his seventh victory. Cincinnati could only muster five hits and a walk against him as the White Sox took the series with a 4-1 win.

Our View:

Buehrle has been very good this season and has been rewarded with a 7-2 record. He won't get you a lot of Ks, but his record and 3.17 ERA speak for themselves.

June 14, 2009

Mark Buehrle did not factor into the decision on Sunday in the White Sox' 5-4 win over the Brewers. Burhrle went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.

Our View:

Buehrle has now gone five straight starts without picking up a win, but his ERA is still solid at 3.43. He is still a good fantasy play, and expect him to start picking up wins if he keeps pitching well.

June 10, 2009

Mark Buehrle was rocked for five earned runs on four hits over 6.1 innings in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the division rival Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. He had four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:

He pitched poorly tonight, and is lucky he was dealt a no-decision rather than a loss. He has not won over his last four starts.

June 4, 2009

Mark Buehrle took the loss for only the second this season on Thursday, surrendering four earned runs in eight innings in a 7-0 loss to the A's.

Our View:

Buehrle more-or-less continued his sterling 2009 season, though, going eight innings while striking out four. Through 11 starts now, he is 6-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.

May 30, 2009

Mark Buehrle allowed three earned runs on seven hits over 7.1 innings in Saturday's 5-3 win at Kansas City. He had six strikeouts with no walks.

Our View:

He left the game tied 3-3, and was handed a no-decision. He remains 6-1 for the season, and has not issued a walk in his last three starts.

May 24, 2009

Mark Buehrle was good again on Sunday, but he was let down by his closer as the White Sox fell to the Pirates 4-3. Buehrle went seven innings and allowed one runs on 12 hits while striking out three.

Our View:

Buehrle should have had another win today, but his bullpen couldn't finish it off for him. 12 hits it awfully high for seven innings, but Buehrle found a way to work around them. He is a very good pitcher, and is a strong play in all leagues.

May 19, 2009

Mark Buehrle shined on Tuesday as the White Sox beat the Twins 6-2. Buehrle went seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out three.

Our View:

Buehrle has been very good this season, and his record now sits at an outstanding 6-1. He is a strong play in all leagues, as he has been one of the more consistent starting pitchers over the last several years.

May 13, 2009

Mark Buehrle was rocked for four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings of work in Wednesday's 4-0 loss at Cleveland. He issued one walk with six strikeouts.

Our View:

Buehrle suffered his first loss of the season, and is now 5-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He has a poor track record against the Indians, as he is 9-13 over 33 career starts.

May 11, 2009

Mark Buehrle's next start was bumped back one day, as he'll now start Wednesday instead of Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Buehrle is not hurt but will simply get an extra day of rest after he threw a season-high 110 pitches on Thursday.

Our View:

Buehrle has gotten off to a great start, following a no decision on Opening Day with five-straight wins. It'd be silly not to start him at this point, though his one-day delay will strip him of his matchup with Cleveland's spot starter Jeremy Sowers and match him against the Indians' ace Cliff Lee.

May 7, 2009

Mark Buehrle picked up his fifth win of the season as the White Sox defeated the Tigers 6-0 on Thursday. He allowed only one hit and two walks, while striking out five hitters.

Our View:

Buehrle does not do his job in a flashy manner, but you cannot argue with his effectiveness. He is now 5-0, but tonight was the first time in six starts that he has gone more than 6.2 innings.

May 2, 2009

Mark Buehrle is now 4-0 on the season after he won Friday against the Rangers. He went six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two.

Our View:

Buehrle has been very good this season, and it continued tonight. He rebounded after giving up a leadoff homer to Ian Kinler to stay undefeated. Buehrle remains a solid fantasy pitcher and is a good value in all leagues.

April 25, 2009

Mark Buehrle improved to 3-0 with a solid performance in Saturday's 10-2 win over Toronto. He scattered six hits and two walks while allowing two earned runs and striking out four hitters.

Our View:

Buehrle has yet to go seven innings in any of his four starts, but he has turned in a quality performance in each of them. He looks to be his usual reliable self win it comes to pumping out quality start after quality start.

April 25, 2009

Mark Buehrle's start was pushed back to Saturday to give his arm an extra day off, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Buehrle has posted a 3.00 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in his first three starts, so it's not like he has been struggling. This move may have had more to do with getting him in line to face the Rangers next Friday since he posted a 1.23 ERA against Texas last season.

April 18, 2009

Mark Buehrle won his second game of the season Saturday as the White Sox beat up on the Rays 8-3. He went 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks and is now 2-0 in 2009.

Our View:

This was a typical Buehrle outing. The White Sox perpetual Opening Day starter always gives his team a chance to win. He's rarely overpowering, but almost always finds a way to get the job done. Owners would like a stronger K-rate, but he helps in every other category.

April 12, 2009

Mark Buehrle allowed only two base runners in 6.1 innings of work in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Twins. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a Delmon Young home run. Buehrle struck out five and walked none.

Our View:

This was a marked improvement over his last start against the Royals. The veteran should continue to be one of the more reliable, if not unspectacular pitchers in the game.

April 7, 2009

Mark Buehrle allowed two earned runs on six hits over five innings of work in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field, with three walks and three strikeouts. He surrendered a solo homer to Alex Gordon.

Our View:

He was dealt a no-decision, and would have suffered a loss if Jim Thome did not bail the club out with a three-run homer. Buerhle was unable to earn his 20th career win against Kansas City.

April 7, 2009

The White Sox want Mark Buehrle to improve his offseason conditioning, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Pitching coach Don Cooper said, "Buehrle has never been Johnny-condition guy in the winter. But now he is getting older and he needs to do more. We talked to him about this. He needs to pay more of a price before spring training."

Our View:

Buehrle is set to start today's season opener at U.S. Cellular Field, and hopefully he can get off to a solid start. He is 19-8 with a 3.48 ERA over 38 career starts against Kansas City.

April 5, 2009

Monday's Royals-White Sox game has been postponed due to weather and has been moved to Tuesday, which was an off day. Mark Buehrle will still start the opener, just a day later. The same goes for Gil Meche, who will start for the Royals.

Our View:

If you have Buehrle on your fantasy roster, be sure to adjust your rotation accordingly. He's not a great fantasy starter, but he should be able to handle the Royals.

April 1, 2009

Yahoo! reports that Mark Buehrle has been named the White Sox opening day starter and will battle the Royals on Monday.

Our View:

Buehrle is not an exceptional fantasy starter, but he gets the job done and he's been as durable as any pitcher this decade. He has registered at least 200 innings in the past eight seasons, but batters did hit .281 off of him last season.

March 31, 2009

Mark Buehrle finally had a quality outing on Tuesday, but got stuck with the loss anyway. He scattered five hits and a pair of walks over six innings and only allowed one earned run while striking out four.

Our View:

Buehrle has had a rough spring, but he's still a solid starting pitcher. He's a workhorse and has thrown over 200 innings every full season of his career (2001-2008) and only two of those seasons was his ERA over 4.00. Expect more of the same from the White Sox Opening Day starter.

March 24, 2009

The White Sox plan to once again open their season with pitcher Mark Buehrle on the mound. The veteran southpaw is taking it slow this spring in an effort to save his arm. Buehrle won't make another spring start until next Tuesday, and the schedule will line him up for the April 6 opener. "It's the same way we did last year," manager Ozzie Guillen notes to MLB.com.

Our View:

It's a bold call by the White Sox. Are you sure you don't want Bartolo Colon to make that first start? Buehrle will be making his seventh Opening Day outing for the franchise. His last three have been less than memorable.

March 21, 2009

Mark Buehrle got shelled on Saturday, allowing eight runs to the Cubs on seven hits, two walks and two home runs. He only last 3.2 innings and took the loss.

Our View:

This shouldn't be too concerning as Buehrle is about as consistent as they come. He should bounce back next time around and is looking forward to a successful season in 2009. He shined down the stretch last year and looks to have plenty of gas left in the tank.

March 11, 2009

Mark Buehrle threw three scoreless innings as the White Sox defeated the Brewers 6-2 on Wednesday. He gave up two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Our View:

Buehrle looks as consistent as usual this spring. In 2008, he posted his best groundball and strikeout rate since 2004 and finished the season very strong. However, he does have eight straight seasons of more than 200 innings thrown, meaning there is always a possibility that his arm may wear out. Don't let that thought dominate, though, when determining whether or not to draft Buehrle.

March 1, 2009

Mark Buehrle had a solid outing on Sunday, going two innings in which he just allowed one walk and one hit while striking out a pair.

Our View:

Buehrle will be the ace of a young White Sox staff this year which got some postseason experience last season against the Rays. Chicago should be able to contend in the weak AL Central, but nearly every team in the division has improved.

February 16, 2009

Mark Buehrle is considering hanging up his cleats after the 2011 campaign when his contract with Chicago expires, according to the Chicago Tribune. He noted that he misses his family deeply during the season, which would be the main reason for him to retire.

Our View:

The lefty has already won a World Series title with the White Sox, and could also be starting to wear down as he averages 224 innings pitched over his last eight campaigns.

January 31, 2009

The AP reports that the Chicago White Sox will not go after any more pricey free agents. GM Kenny Williams said, "We have learned some tough lessons ... throwing as much talent against the wall is not necessarily the answer."

Our View:

In fact, the White Sox might be looking to dump salary, such as Jermaine Dye, if things don't go their way by mid-summer.
