MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports via Twitter that the Phillies have released right-hander Rodrigo Lopez.
Lopez was made expendable by the additions of Pedro Martinez and Cliff Lee, but give some credit to his 5.70 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 30 innings this season. The Phils had no use for six starters, especially one as ineffective as Lopez has been lately.
Despite the Phillies currently having six starting pitchers on their major league roster, they are expected to recall starter Rodrigo Lopez once rosters can be expanded in September, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Long reliever anybody? In seven games (five starts) for the Phils this season, Lopez accrued a 3-1 record and 5.70 ERA.
Rodrigo Lopez has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to the team's Twitter page. The move was made to clear room for the activation of reliever Chad Durbin.
There was just no more room left in the Phillies pitching staff for Lopez after the acquisition of Cliff Lee and with Pedro coming up on Wednesday. Lopez was decent in his time as a starter, but the team is much better off where they are as a rotation now.
Rodrigo Lopez was hit with his first loss of the season on Thursday as the Phillies fell to the Giants by a score of 7-2. Lopez went four innings and allowed seven runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out two.
Lopez is likely heading out of the rotation after the acquisition of Cliff Lee, and he didn't do anything tonight to make a case for himself. He will lose most, if not all, of his fantasy value if and when he is removed from the rotation, so fantasy owners should be prepared to find another option.
Rodrigo Lopez was in control from the hill in Monday's 10-1 win over the Cubs at Citizens Bank Park, as he only surrendered one earned run on five hits over six innings. He had three walks and five strikeouts.
Lopez continues to pitch well, as he allowed two or less earned runs in each of his four starts. He is worth penciling into fantasy lineups for as long as he has a spot in the Phillies' rotation.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Rodrigo Lopez (shoulder) will throw a side session on Saturday at Land Shark stadium in preparation for his return to the rotation on Monday.
Lopez says his shoulder feels fine and he looks like a good bet make the start against the Cubs on Monday, but he may not last long in the rotation. He could lose his spot as soon as recently acquired starter Pedro Martinez comes off the DL. Lopez is not really worth a fantasy roster at this point. At least until the uncertainty of the Phillies' rotation is resolved.
Rodrigo Lopez expects to make his next scheduled start in the Phillies' rotation after exiting his last outing after five innings with right shoulder inflammation, according to MLB.com.
The 33-year-old hurler intends to play catch Friday or Saturday, and is confident he will be ready for his next start. No tests have been performed on his ailing shoulder. The Phillies will next need a fifth starter on July 20.
Rodrigo Lopez allowed two runs in five innings on Wednesday, but more importantly left after five innings with right shoulder inflammation.
Lopez has a long injury history, so this comes as little surprise. He has pitched well for the Phillies so far in '09, but isn't worth owning in any format because of his fragile nature.
Rodrigo Lopez earned his first win since 2007 on Friday night with a 7-2 victory over the Mets. He allowed just two earned runs on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings.
Lopez was called up today to make the start, and he ended up making an impression as well. He's filling in for the injured Antonio Bastardo, but a few more starts like this and he could take Bastrado's job away from him.
According to the Associated Press, the Phillies have recalled pitcher Rodrigo Lopez from Triple-A.
Lopez will get the start on Friday night in place of the injured Antonio Bastardo. To make room for Lopez the Phillies designated Jack Taschner for assignment.
Rodrigo Lopez will make the start for the Phillies on Friday, according to the Associated Press.
The 34-year-old Lopez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2007 with the Rockies. He is 5-4 with a 3.91 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He is not a good spot starting option at this time.
Rodrigo Lopez lowered his ERA to 2.70 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley by tossing five scoreless innings on Tuesday.
Yes, that Rodrigo Lopez. The former 15-game winner with the Orioles stands behind J.A. Happ, at the very least, in the Phillies' starting rotation depth chart.
Rodrigo Lopez has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies, according to the Denver Post. He will earn $650,000 if he makes the team.
He enjoyed some success with the Orioles earlier in his career, but he is coming off Tommy John surgery and is expected to merely serve as organizational depth with the Phillies.
