Newsbreakers

March 16, 2010

Alex Rios is dealing with a left quad injury, according to Joe Cowley's (Chicago Sun-Times) twitter page.

Our View:

The injury is not believed to be serious though, and Rios should be considered day-to-day for now. The talented outfielder has been having a good spring training so far.

March 12, 2010

Alex Rios went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored in today's 10-7 preseason win over the Angels. He hit a double and a two-run homer off Travis Chick.

Our View:

Rios is having a good spring training, with two homers and four RBI so far. He seems primed for a strong campaign with Chicago, who play their home games at launching pad U.S. Cellular Field.

March 10, 2010

Alex Rios went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the A's.

Our View:

Rios had his worst full season in 2009, when most pundits expected it to be his big breakout. He's off to a good start in spring, hitting .375, and is a great candidate for a bounce back season. He'll be affordable due to last year's struggles and can provide five category production at a bargain price. He could also flop again, but is a low-risk, high-reward type player.

March 6, 2010

Alex Rios' MRI did not reveal anything structurally wrong with his ailing shoulder, according to Chicago beat writer Scott Merkin's twitter page.

Our View:

Rios is just dealing with normal soreness of spring training. He sat out today's action to rest.

March 5, 2010

Alex Rios is not worried about his sore shoulder, according to MLB.com. He said, "I have had it for a few years, so it is nothing to worry about. It is just a little tight."

Our View:

Rios went 0-for-3 with Chicago in Thursday's exhibition opener, and will remain in the DH role until the club deems him fit to roam in the outfield again.
