Rafael Soriano is now officially a member of the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.
How much money they will be paying him has not yet been revealed. As expected, the Braves are receiving reliever Jesse Chavez in return.
After accepting arbitration from the Braves, Rafael Soriano has been dealt to the Rays and will serve as the team's closer in 2010, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.
The Braves will receive reliever Jesse Chavez in return. Soriano lost his spot in Atlanta's bullpen when the team signed Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito earlier this offseason. He stands to make about $7 million in 2010.
There is speculation that the Rays are interested in reliever Rafael Soriano, according to the Tampa Tribune.
The Rays are in the market for a closer, and Soriano nailed down 27 saves in 31 chances with Atlanta last season. He would be pricey though, as he accepted the Braves' offer for arbitration, and looks to make between $6-8MM in 2010.
According to Mark Bowman on Twitter, reliever Rafael Soriano has granted the Braves trade clearance.
Soriano accepted arbitration on Monday, and the Braves have apparently already been involved in talks with several teams. He can now be traded anywhere, but the Orioles, Astros and Red Sox are the most likely suitors.
In a surprise move, Rafael Soriano has accepted Atlanta's arbitration offer, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.
His decision now leaves Atlanta with a glut of late-inning relievers, as the team has recently signed both Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito. He stands to make roughly $7 million in 2010, and is obviously a candidate to be traded this offseason.
Rafael Soriano is considering accepting Atlanta's arbitration offer, according to ESPN.
It has been speculated that Soriano will decline the offer, but he is now seriously thinking about accepting, and remaining with the Braves for another year. The Yankees, Mets, Cubs, Orioles, Tigers, Red Sox and Astros are among the teams believed to have some interest in Soriano, but it remains to be seen if any will offer him a multi-year deal to leave Atlanta.
According to David O'Brien on Twitter, the Braves have offered salary arbitration to relievers Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez.
This doesn't necessarily mean that the Braves want to keep the relievers, but the price has gone up for other interested parties. Both were Type A free agents and will now cost teams a draft pick if they sign either one of them away from the Braves.
The New York Yankees plan to pursue former Braves relievers Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez this offseason, according to Fox Sports.
The Yankees' bullpen looked like Mariano Rivera and then a bunch of question marks during the playoffs, so expect them to fortify things big time this offseason. Both Gonzalez and Soriano have checkered injury histories, but don't expect that to be a hindrance to the Yanks overpaying them.
Rafael Soriano has some "muscle discomfort" behind his right shoulder, and is unavailable to pitch Saturday, according to MLB.com's Mark Bowman.
He says he might be able to return by as early as tomorrow, however. We will keep you posted.

Rafael Soriano worked the ninth inning of the Braves 1-0 win over the Nationals on Wednesday, earning his second save of the season. He did not allow any base runners and struck out two hitters.
Mike Gonzalez pitched the final out of the eighth inning and actually took home the win. However, Soriano has pitched far better than Gonzalez at this point and he appears to be in line for some more closing duties - especially when the three batters due up are all right-handed. If Soriano is still on waivers, you'll want to pick him up. He has not allowed a run in seven innings. He has a 0.71 WHIP with 10 strikeouts.

Mike Gonzalez got the save the previous night, and he is still the team's closer. However, Soriano has thrown four shutout innings in his four appearances this season and will continue to be Gonzalez's primary setup man. He also may be called upon for spot duty in the ninth inning when Gonzalez needs some rest.
Braves reliever Rafael Soriano strained a side muscle on Tuesday when pitching against the Pirates, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
He could start the year on the disabled list with this injury, which should shock absolutely nobody. He was on that list three times last year, and is picking up right where he left off.
Reliever Rafael Soriano allowed two unearned runs over one inning of work on Tuesday. He struggled early but ended up striking out the side.
Soriano is coming off an elbow injury and has been dealing with a respiratory issue this spring. His fantasy outlook is much like this outing on Tuesday. He could struggle badly or he could look dominant. The Braves will be happy if he provides solid setup work for Mike Gonzalez.

MLB.com reports that reliever Rafael Soriano should be at full strength when Braves pitchers and catchers report on February 15.
Soriano had surgery on his elbow at the end of August. He may compete with Mike Gonzalez for the closer's job in spring training. He has been an effective, yet oft-injured, pitcher over his seven-year career.
