The Miami Herald is reporting that Royals' utility man Willie Bloomquist underwent routine arthroscopic surgery to clean up both his knees. Bloomquist is expected to be ready for spring training next season.
Bloomquist played in 125 games for the Royals last season, and he hit .265 with four homers and 29 RBI. He isn't anything more than a utility player at this point in his career, and he has no real fantasy value.
Willie Bloomquist went 2-for-4 with a run scored and stolen base on Sunday, helping the Royals to a 2-1 victory in Chicago.
He now has 21 thefts in 2009. However, with limited power at age 31, he will have very minimal fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues in 2010.
Willie Bloomquist provided all the offense the Royals could muster with one swing of the bat on Wednesday. His solo shot in first inning marked the only tally against the Twins in the Royals' 7-1 loss.
The homer was just Bloomquist's fourth of the season, and he is in the midst of a horrible cold stretch. The light hitting infielder is batting just .135 in August.
MLB.com is reporting that Willie Bloomquist was not in the Royals' lineup on Saturday and that he may get the day off Sunday as well while dealing with soreness. He is not injured, but his body is sore from everyday wear-and-tear and the team doesn't want to risk injury.
With the break beginning tomorrow, it's better to be safe than sorry for the Royals. If you are relying on Bloomquist today, you may want to find another option, as it looks like he will be sitting.
Willie Bloomquist carried the Royals in tonight's 4-3 win at Detroit, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He hit a single, triple and a solo homer off Armando Galarraga
Bloomquist has a hit in five straight games, with nine total hits and four RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while swinging a hot stick.
According to MLB.com, Willie Bloomquist was a last minute scratch for Friday's game due to a family emergency.
No word on what the emergency was. Bloomquist was replaced at third base by Luis Hernandez. Consider him day-to-day.
Willie Bloomquist tripled and drove in three runs in the Royals' 6-2 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.
Bloomquist had a big hit on Saturday, but they have been few and far between for him. With poor stats and being relegated to platoon duty, he's not a good fantasy option in any format.
Willie Bloomquist will start in right field for the Royals on Friday against the Rangers. The Royals are facing left-hander Matt Harrison.
Injuries to Alex Gordon and Jose Guillen have shaken up the Royals lineup, and manager Trey Hillman plans to employ a lefty-righty platoon of Mitch Maier and Bloomquist in right field, for now. Sadly, Hillman isn't simply going with the better bat in Maier.
Willie Bloomquist has reached a two-year deal with the Royals believed to be worth $3 million, according to MLB.com.
Bloomquist is expected to compete for the Royals' second base job with Alberto Callaspo, and could also serve as a utility man. He has little to no power, but has speed as he swiped 14 bases in 2008.
