The Pirates have let free agent Hank Blalock know they are interested in his services, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:

Blalock can play both corner infield spots, and the outfield. He has been injury plagued much of the three past seasons, but did hit 25 home runs (to go along with a .234 average) in 123 games last season.

October 2, 2009

Hank Blalock told MLB.com that he knows he will not be returning to the Rangers next season. Blalock has played his entire 10-year career with the Rangers' organization, but the team has no room for him on next year's roster.

Our View:

The Rangers appear set with both outfielders and corner infielders for next season, so there is no reason to try to bring Blalock back. He ha struggled at the plate this season with a .235 average, but he did manage to hit 25 homers and drive in 66 runs. He shouldn't hve too much trouble finding work next season.

September 2, 2009

Hank Blalock is penciled into tonight's lineup against Toronto, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:

Chris Davis will cover third base with Michael Young out with a hamstring injury. Young will miss 2-3 weeks, so Blalock should see regular playing time over that span.

August 25, 2009

Hank Blalock has been notified that he will serve in a backup role for the stretch run of the season after the Rangers recalled corner infielder Chris Davis from the minors, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:

Blalock holds a poor .238 batting average, and skipper Ron Washington apparently believes he can help the team more as a reserve than a starter. His fantasy stock takes a hit, while slugger Davis' rises.

August 20, 2009

Rangers' skipper Ron Washington noted that he may give Hank Blalock a day off Friday while struggling at the plate, according to MLB.com. Washington said, "I will see how I feel tonight and tomorrow, when I start messing around with the lineup."

Our View:

Blalock is only batting .164 over 73 at-bats this month, and may be struggling due to fatigue. Andruw Jones would likely serve in the DH role Friday if Blalock gets the day off to rest.

August 8, 2009

Hank Blalock provided all the offense for the Rangers on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in the 3-2 loos to the Angels.

Our View:

Our View:

Blalock's power has blossomed recently. His highest home run total for any month this season is six, but he already has five in July. He's also hitting .372 this month. If you've got him, play him while he's hot because it won't last forever.

Hank Blalock helped lead the Rangers in tonight's 12-2 win over the Padres at home, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He hit a solo homer and a single.

Our View:

Blalock snapped an eight-game drought without a homer, and has 14 for the season. He should remain a solid source for power, but his .246 batting average leaves a bit to be desired.

May 23, 2009

Hank Blalock will start Saturday's game at Houston at third base, according to the Star-Telegram. Michael Young is unable to play due to his foot injury.

Our View:

Hank Blalock was supposed to get the start at first base on Monday, but a stiff neck caused him to be scratched 30 minutes prior to the game, according to MLB.com. Chris Davis will start again at first base.

Our View:

Seems to us that Blalock backed out of his defensive duties for tonight. Don't expect the stiff neck to last very long and he figures to be back at DH soon. However, if Chris Davis' struggles continue, the Rangers may want to get Blalock in at first base more often.

April 11, 2009

Our View:

February 25, 2009

Hank Blalock had a good day on Wednesday, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, and two RBI. He also scored a pair of runs.

Our View:

Blalock was at DH on Wednesday. He'll be transitioning to first base this year from third base.

January 5, 2009

MLB.com reports that speculation surrounds whether the Texas Rangers will trade Hank Blalock for much needed pitching. Reportedly, the Giants, Angels, and Orioles are potential suitors for Blalock because of a need for a corner infielder.

Our View:

Blalock's power numbers have dropped off significantly the last two seasons, primarily because of injury. After hitting 16 home runs and driving in 89 runs in 2006, Blalock has played in just 123 games the last two years, hitting 22 home runs in that span.
