Newsbreakers

October 2, 2009

Hank Blalock told MLB.com that he knows he will not be returning to the Rangers next season. Blalock has played his entire 10-year career with the Rangers' organization, but the team has no room for him on next year's roster.

Our View:

The Rangers appear set with both outfielders and corner infielders for next season, so there is no reason to try to bring Blalock back. He ha struggled at the plate this season with a .235 average, but he did manage to hit 25 homers and drive in 66 runs. He shouldn't hve too much trouble finding work next season.

September 24, 2009

Hank Blalock went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-8 win at Oakland. He hit two doubles and a two-run homer off Clay Mortensen.

Our View:

Blalock launched his second homer of September, and his 25th of 2009. He is also hitting .357 over 28 at-bats this month.

September 2, 2009

Hank Blalock is penciled into tonight's lineup against Toronto, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:

Chris Davis will cover third base with Michael Young out with a hamstring injury. Young will miss 2-3 weeks, so Blalock should see regular playing time over that span.

August 25, 2009

Hank Blalock has been notified that he will serve in a backup role for the stretch run of the season after the Rangers recalled corner infielder Chris Davis from the minors, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:

Blalock holds a poor .238 batting average, and skipper Ron Washington apparently believes he can help the team more as a reserve than a starter. His fantasy stock takes a hit, while slugger Davis' rises.

August 20, 2009

Rangers' skipper Ron Washington noted that he may give Hank Blalock a day off Friday while struggling at the plate, according to MLB.com. Washington said, "I will see how I feel tonight and tomorrow, when I start messing around with the lineup."

Our View:

Blalock is only batting .164 over 73 at-bats this month, and may be struggling due to fatigue. Andruw Jones would likely serve in the DH role Friday if Blalock gets the day off to rest.
