According to the Associated Press, the Mets have agreed to a minor league deal with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.
Dickey had a 4.62 ERA in 35 games while in the Twins bullpen last season, and he'll compete for a similar job with the Mets in spring training. He'll earn $600,000 if he's added to the roster.
The Mets are close to signing R.A. Dickey to a minor league deal, according to USA Today.
Dickey has the capability to be used as a spot starter but will likely compete for a gig in middle relief.
R.A. Dickey has been designated for assignment by the Twins, according to the Sports Network.
The knuckleballer is 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA over 64.1 innings (one start) with Minnesota this season. He was only an option for deeper leagues that feature middle men.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that the Twins have optioned pitcher R.A. Dickey to Triple-A Rochester to make room for the newly acquired Carl Pavano. Dickey had a 4.62 ERA with the team this season.
Dickey, a knuckleballer, saw only moderate success with the team this season, and he will not be missed in the Twins' bullpen. He should see some more time with the team at some point this season, but he will not be a fantasy factor in the near future.
The AP reports that knuckleballer R.A. Dickey threw more fastballs than usual in his 4.1 innings of work against the Yankees on Monday. The reason for less knuckleballs had to do with a cracked fingernail.
Dickey doesn't have much fantasy value as a long reliever, but perhaps the ailment will allow him to develop a decent complementary pitch.
R.A. Dickey will serve as the No. 5 starter in the Twins' rotation with Scott Baker (shoulder stiffness) on the 15-day DL, according to the Star Tribune. Francisco Liriano will start on opening day, with Nick Blackburn moving from the fifth to the second spot in the rotation. Kevin Slowey and Glen Perkins will remain in the No. 3 and 4 spots.
Dickey earned the spot with a 2.04 ERA this spring. He will make his first start next Friday against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, and is worth holding in AL-only leagues until Baker is ready to return to the rotation.
R.A. Dickey only allowed one hit over three innings in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Phillies, with one walk and four strikeouts.
This was a good outing in his bid to earn a role as a long-reliever. As a fantasy prospect, he does not garner attention.
R.A. Dickey will be given a shot to compete for the Twins' setup role, but is more likely to start the season at Triple-A Rochester, according to the Star Tribune.
The knuckleballer is viewed as a longshot for the role, along with Rob Delaney.
