Newsbreakers

November 14, 2009

The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that the rumor that outfielder Carl Crawford wants out of Tampa is false. A report surfaced earlier this week in NY Baseball Digest that Crawford was upset that the team picked up his 2010 option.

Our View:

The story in the Times states that Crawford would like to work out an extension with the team, but if not he is just fine going into next season with the Rays. The team could still look to deal him, but it seems like he is a great candidate for a long-term deal.

November 9, 2009

The Rays have picked up their $10 million, 2010 team option on outfielder Carl Crawford, according to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.

Our View:

There's an outside chance the team could trade him this offseason to clear payroll space, but that seems unlikely, particularly after they dealt Scott Kazmir late last season. Crawford's 60 steals in 2009 were second in the American League to only Jacoby Ellsbury's 70.

October 4, 2009

Carl Crawford is not in the Rays' starting lineup on Sunday. He is being replaced by Gabe Kapler in left field.

Our View:

It looks like CC might be done for the season, unless he gets a pinch-hit at-bat or comes in as a defensive replacement. He was an absolute monster on the bases this season, swiping 60 to go along with his .305 average and 96 runs scored. As long as he is healhty, Crawford will be an elite fantasy outfielder again next season.

September 30, 2009

Carl Crawford would consider a long-term deal with the Rays, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:

The Rays will likely pick up his option for 2010, and the star outfielder noted that he would like to be a part of the Rays' future. Crawford is confident that the team is moving in the right direction after failing to make the 2009 playoffs.

September 28, 2009

Carl Crawford is not in the Rays' lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. Crawford is being replaced by Fernando Perez in left field.

Our View:

Carwford has 59 stolen bases on the season, he he would surely like to get to 60 before the year is done. He may sit a few times over the last week, but he should be available for the most part for those of you still alive in fantasy baseball leagues.
