Our View:

Horrible news for Young's fantasy owners, as the Rangers' third baseman was cruising toward his sixth .300-plus average season, and possibly sixth 200-hit season, in seven years. Omar Vizquel, Chris Davis and Esteban German will all fill-in at third in his absence.

August 21, 2009

Michael Young went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in the Rangers' 5-3 loss to the Rays on Friday.

Our View:

Young is now hitting .326 on the season and has been especially potent at the plate the last two months. He hit .375 in July and currently holds a .325 mark in August.

August 14, 2009

Michael Young was productive in tonight's 8-4 loss to Boston at Rangers Ballpark, as he went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a two-run homer off Jon Lester.

August 6, 2009

Michael Young kept his recent power surge going on Thursdy as he homered again in the Rangers' 6-4 win over the A's. Young went 2-for-5 with a run sored and two RBI in the contest.

Our View:

Young has 18 homers this season, and he has now hit eight of those in the last month. He is on a tear right now, so fantasy owners need to keep riding him until he cools down again. For now, he is a top infield option.

August 2, 2009

Michael Young hit his 17th homer of the season in the Rangers' 4-2 win over the Mariners' on Sunday. He finished the day 1-for-4.

Our View:

July 30, 2009

Michael Young had a monster night at the dish on Thursday in the Rangers' 7-1 win over the Mariners. Young went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Michael Young went 3-for-4 with a home run on Monday, his 14th of the season.

July 26, 2009

Michael Young helped the Rangers take two of three from the Royals on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with two RBI in a 7-2 victory.

Our View:

Texas' perennial All-Star continues to put up huge numbers in 2009, and will be a big part of any stretch run your fantasy team makes as the season winds down.

July 25, 2009

Michael Young went 3-for-4 with a home run in the Rangers' 6-3 loss to the Royals on Saturday.

July 20, 2009

Michael Young went 3-for-4 on Monday with two runs and a homer, his 12th of the season.

Michael Young will start at third base for the American League All-Star team on Tuesday night in place of the injured Evan Longoria, according to the Twitter page of ESPN's Amy K. Nelson. Longoria is out with an infected finger.

July 4, 2009

Michael Young helped pace the Rangers to a 12-4 rout of the Rays on the Fourth of July, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

June 20, 2009

Michael Young went 1-for-5 with a solo homer off Randy Johnson in Friday's 6-4 loss at San Francisco.

Our View:

June 6, 2009

Michael Young got two hits on Saturday in the Rangers' 8-1 loss to the Red Sox. Young went 2-for-4 with a double in the game.

Our View:

Not a huge night for Young, but as good as Jon Lester was tonight it was a huge feat to get two hits. He was the only Ranger to get a hit off Lester, which shows how good Young is and how good Lester was tonight.

May 24, 2009

Michael Young is back in the Rangers' lineup on Sunday. Young missed Saturday's game with an ankle sprain.

Our View:

Young was thought to be out today, but it appears as if his ankle is good to go. Get him back in your lineup today, and expect him to stay in the lineup unless he hurts himself again.

May 23, 2009

X-rays on Michael Young's ankle came back negative, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Young sat out Saturday's game and remains day-to-day and could be back as early as tomorrow, so this comes as good news to Young owners who should not have any fear about using shortstop-eligible third baseman in their lineup for next week.

May 23, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Michael Young has been ruled out for Saturday's game at Houston after testing his injured right ankle, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:

Young was not able to run well enough to play, and the Rangers could not use a DH at Minute Maid Park. Hank Blalock will start at third base in Young's place.

May 23, 2009

Michael Young is sporting crutches, but still wants to play in Saturday's game at Houston, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View:

He had X-rays taken on his injured right foot this morning, and is hoping he only has a sprain. We will keep you posted when his status is updated.

May 9, 2009

Michael Young was forced out of Friday's game against Chicago in the fifth inning due to a stiff lower back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

The Rangers are yet to disclose the severity of the ailment, or if he will need to miss any time.

May 5, 2009

Michael Young continued his hot start on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Our View:

Young now has seven homers on the year, and is turning out to be an excellent fantasy player this season. His numbers should continue to be solid, so his value is likely to stay high all year.

April 27, 2009

Michael Young went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and two RBI as the Rangers beat the Orioles 6-4 on Monday.

Our View:

Young has been clutch to start the season and his blast tonight put the Rangers ahead for good. The shortstop turned third baseman is slugging .600 through 19 games with six home runs and seven doubles.

April 25, 2009

Michael Young has been hot to start the year, and in fact he has become the player in big league history to hit a home run in the ninth inning in three of five games with each blast either tying the game or putting his team ahead, according to the Star Telgram. Moreover, Young is one of just 11 players to hit three ninth inning home runs in a five game span.

Our View:

Young is hitting .308, an average we are used to seeing from him (he is a career .300 hitter), but the power (five home runs) is likely an anomaly given that he hasn't hit more than 14 home runs in any of the past three season. Still, you gotta love what he has been doing at the dish, especially with his new found eligibility at third base.

April 24, 2009

Michael Young launched a two-run homer in the top of the ninth on Friday to give the Rangers a 5-4 victory over the Orioles. Young was 2-for-5 on the game with two runs and two RBI.

Our View:

Young has been excellent so far in 2009, and he continued that with the game winner tonight. He now has five long balls on the year, and his fanasy value continues to rise.

April 22, 2009

Michael Young continued his hot start on Wednesday, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is now hitting .304 on the year with four home runs.

Our View:

Young has been getting the job done at the plate this season, and he showed why he is still an option in all formats. Texas' lineup is going to score runs, and Young looks as if he will be involved in many of them.

April 14, 2009

Michael Young homered for the second straight night Tuesday, but Texas fell short and dropped a 7-5 extra-inning affair to the Orioles. He was 3-for-4 on the day.

Our View:

Young now has five hits, two home runs and three RBI in his last two games. He should have plenty more outings like this, being sandwiched between Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton.

April 13, 2009

Michael Young went 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season on Monday as the Rangers fell 10-9. He had two RBI and a run scored in the game.

Our View:

Young is one of many Rangers providing some solid fantasy value at the moment. He has seven starts at third base under his belt and he has already gained eligibility at the position in some leagues.

March 27, 2009

Michael Young was 2-for-3 with a home run on Friday against the Brewers. He's hitting .348 this spring.

Our View:

Young's transition to the hot corner doesn't seem to be bothering him and he's hitting like he always has. He's a decent fantasy option, especially if he is still eligible at shortstop.

March 25, 2009

Rangers' owner Tom Hicks has contacted Merrill Lynch to identify a potential buyer and broker a deal to sell 49 percent of the ball club, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Hicks owns 95 percent of the team and will retain controlling interest in the club even if a percentage is sold off.

March 24, 2009

Third baseman Michael Young aggravated his left quad injury on Tuesday, but manager Ron Washington tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the infielder could return to action as soon as Wednesday.

Our View:

We'll go out on a limb and project that Young will rest on Wednesday, but the Rangers clearly don't think this ailment is serious.

March 24, 2009

Third baseman Michael Young aggravated a left quad injury on Tuesday and left the spring game against the Mariners after two innings, the Dallas Morning News reports. Adam Fox took his place.

Our View:

We don't know any more details at this point, and we'll follow up when more info is available. Young has played at least 155 games in seven straight seasons, and one would think his body could easily handle the transition from shortstop to third base.

February 18, 2009

Michael Young is adjusting to his new position at the hot corner, according to the Dallas Morning News. Young said, "I am focused on learning third base and becoming the best that I can at that position. Spring training will be very important for me."

Our View:

Young noted that he won't hit 30 homers, but feels he will register 90-100 RBI. Young wanted to remain at shortstop, but he does not look to be a distraction as he is embracing his new position.

January 24, 2009

Michael Young said on Saturday that there is not a strain in the relationship between he and general manager Jon Daniels, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. However, Young did reiterate that he doesn't think he should be moved to third base.

Our View:

We'll likely see if the Young situation becomes an issue early in the regular season, if not sooner than that. If he's a team player then it won't be an issue, but if not he'll be a real headache for the Rangers this year, especially with being signed through 2013.

January 15, 2009

MLB.com reports that Michael Young will play third base in 2009 and he has revoked his request for a trade. Prospect Elvis Andrus is expected to be the team's shortstop.

Our View:

Travis Metcalf was the other option at third base, as Hank Blalock is virtually locked into the DH role. Young will still be eligible at shortstop, but at some point in April, he will also be eligible at third.

January 13, 2009

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that news of Rangers shortstop Michael Young's request to be traded is not sitting well with other baseball executives, quoting one as saying, "What a joke. It's all about him, and not about the Rangers."

Our View:

The Rangers want Young to move to third so Elvis Andrus can play short, much to Young's chagrin. He is 32 and has $80 million remaining on his contract, so a trade seems unlikely, especially considering some of the reaction Olney has chronicled.

January 12, 2009

Michael Young is unlikely to be traded to the Chicago White Sox, according to the Chicago Daily Herald. Young requested a trade after being asked to move to third base from shortstop.

Our View:

Young would provide an upgrade at shortstop power-wise over Orlando Cabrera who played for the Sox there last year. Young batted .284 last year with 12 home runs and 82 RBI, compared to Cabrera who hit .282 with eight home runs and 57 RBI. The averages are very similar, but Cabrera had four fewer home runs and 25 fewer RBI. Of course, Young plays his home games in the hitter friendly Ballpark in Arlington, so this should be taken into account. White Sox GM Kenny Williams has a history of making blockbuster deals, so even though this is considered unlikely, it's difficult to rule anything out when he's involved.

January 11, 2009

Rangers shortstop Michael Young wasn't happy about being asked to play third base, so he asked for a trade, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'm not playing third base. I'm pretty adamant about my stance. I told them I wanted to be traded. The biggest misconception is that I was asked to move to third base. I was never asked. I was flat-out told," Young said.

Our View:

He sounds quite upset at the organization, but he may not get his wish to be moved. He is 33 years old, in an obvious decline, and has five years and a whopping $80 million remaining on his contract. It seems odd the Rangers would want to move a Gold Glove winner to another position, but they want Elvis Andrus manning short next season.

January 4, 2009

The Red Sox don't have any interest in Michael Young, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:

Boston initially was looking at reacquiring Florida's Hanley Ramirez, but after that attempt fell short it doesn't appear that they'll be turning their interest to Young.
