Miguel Cabrera will almost certainly not be traded this offseason, according to Peter Gammons on WEEI.
Gammons says Detroit's play at the beginning of next season will likely determine Cabrera's availability. Were he to become available, expect the Red Sox to be very interested.
Over the past six seasons, only Ichiro Suzuki has appeared in as many games as Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera, according to the Boston Globe.
Both have played in 953 games over that span. While his steady run production is obviously the main reason to invest in Cabrera in fantasy leagues, his durability is a big edge over a lot of other slugging first basemen.
FoxSports.com is reporting that the Detroit Tigers could get a very inticing prospect package in return for Miguel Cabrera if they would be willing to pay part of his remaining salary. Cabrera is scheduled to make $126 million over the next six years.
The article points out that the Tigers could get more mid-market teams involved in the bidding if they would be willing to pay about $5 million a year on Cabrera's deal. It is still unclear how serious the team is about moving Miggy, but they likely won't want to pick up much of his salary unless the return package is loaded, as money is the only reason they are looking into a trade.
"There is no evidence" that the Red Sox will pursue Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera this offseason, according to Fox Sports.
That being said, Ken Rosenthal isn't sold that the team will not do so. He points out the fact that Red Sox owner John Henry was very high on Cabrera when both were with the Marlins organization, and of course the fact that, this is, after all, the Red Sox.
Miguel Cabrera is rumored to be available via trade this offsesaon, according to the Detroit News.
The Tigers appear to be flirting with a firesale, and Cabrera has six very expensive years left on the mega-deal he signed before the 2008 season. No possible suitors have been mentioned, though the Red Sox have been interested in Miggy in the past.
With Joe Mauer taking 27-of-28 first place votes in the American League MVP award voting on Wednesday, Miguel Cabrera took the lone other first place vote, according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday. As a result, he has earned a $200,000 bonus from the Tigers.
Whom does he have to thank? An obscure Japanese writer by the name of Keizo Konishi, a Kyodo News writer based in Seattle. We'll see if he gets raked over the coals the way ESPN's Keith Law did last week for excluding Chris Carpenter from his National League Cy Young award ballot.
ESPN.com is reporting that Tigers' slugger Miguel Cabrera plans to address his family and alcohol issues during this offseason. Tigers' Gm Dave Dombrowski met with Cabrera to address Cabrera's decision to get drunk in between games last week.
Another interesting piece of this story is that Dombrowski was the one who went and picked Cabrera up from the police station, which couldn't have been comfortable for either man. For anyone who has ever had to call a parent or guardian to pick you up at the police station, you know how Cabrera must have felt making that call. Surprisingly, Dombrowski said it wasn't the first time in his 20 years as GM that he has had to pick up a player from the cops.

Despite a batch of recent negative revelations, Miguel Cabrera is starting at first base and batting cleanup in the Tigers' one game playoff with the Twins on Tuesday, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.
Of course he is. If he were a reserve, say Ramon Santiago, there is no way he would be playing today. But obviously, talent almost always trumps character, and intelligence, when it comes to sports. Seeing as this game starts early at 4 p.m. central time, hopefully he kept the drinking (with Twins players) to a minimum last night.
Updating an earlier report, the Detroit Free Press is now reporting that the cuts present on Miguel Cabrera's face when he showed up at the ballpark on Saturday were the result of a fight with his wife in which both were "aggressors."
It gets much worse for Tigers fans, however. The fight was supposedly a result of Cabrera's wife being unhappy that Cabrera had arrived home very intoxicated - at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning after he had been out partying all night with friends from the White Sox. His blood alcohol level was recorded at three times the legal limit (though no driving was involved). So as the Tigers were fighting for the lives this weekend, Miggy was out getting drunk with the opposition. Unshockingly, he went 0-for-11 in the Tigers' all important weekend tilt.
The Detroit News is reporting that the bruises and cuts visible on Miguel Cabrera's face on Sunday may have been the result of "family trouble" that necessitated the calling of the police to Cabrera's residence on Saturday night.
The police were reportedly called by Cabrera's wife. Not a good situation at all, especially considering that the Tigers are playing for all the marbles in Minnesota tomorrow. More news will surely develop out of this, so stay tuned.
