Newsbreakers

September 28, 2009

Chipper Jones went 1-for-2 with a solo homer off Anibal Sanchez in tonight's 4-0 win over Florida at Turner Field.

Our View:

Jones hit only his second homer of September and his 18th of 2009. He is in jeopardy of not hitting at least 20 homers for the first time in his career.

September 23, 2009

Chipper Jones left the Braves showdown with the Mets early on Wednesday with a sore back, according to David Lennon of Newsday

Our View:

To quote Kurt Vonnegut, so it goes. Stay tuned for more details.

September 23, 2009

According to the team's Twitter page, the Atlanta Braves have signed manager Bobby Cox to a one-year contract extension to coach in 2010. Cox plans to retire after the 2010 season.

Our View:

Cox has been a staple of the Braves organization for many years, and he will go down in history as one of the greatest managers of all time. He will have one more season to pad his record for ejections, so Braves' fans and baseball fans alike should take the time to watch the Braves before Cox is gone.

September 21, 2009

Chipper Jones led the Braves in tonight's 11-3 win at New York, as he went 1-for-4 with four RBI. He hit a three-run homer off Pat Misch.

Our View:

Jones ended a 16-game drought without a homer, and has 17 for 2009. He also snapped a six-game skid without an RBI, and was only batting .205 this month heading into tonight's game.

September 18, 2009

Chipper Jones will return to the Braves' starting lineup for their Friday night game against the Phillies. Chipper will start at third base and hit third for the team.

Our View:

Chipper wasn't in the original lineup, but he took some ground balls and felt good enough to play. This is a big series for Braves, so it is good news that Chipper is back and ready to go.
