Newsbreakers

October 31, 2009

As has been widely expected, CC Sabathia will start game four of the World Series on three days of rest on Sunday, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View:

Sabathia pitched eight dominating innings of one-run ball in game four of the ALCS on three days rest, so he's more than up to the call. He just has to tame Chase Utley now.

October 28, 2009

CC Sabathia allowed two earned runs on four hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Phillies in Game 1 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. He had three walks with six strikeouts, and was tagged for two solo homers.

Our View:

Sabathia was dominant in the ALCS against the Angels, but was unable to lead the Yankees to a win against the defending champs in the World Series opener. Game 2 is slated for tomorrow night.

October 26, 2009

According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Yankees are "leaning" toward starting ace pitcher CC Sabathia in games one, four and seven (if necessary) of the World Series.

Our View:

His starts in both games four and seven would be on three days of rest, and not the usual four. After the way he pitched on three days rest in the ALCS, it's hard argue with the decision.

October 25, 2009

CC Sabathia was named the ALCS MVP on Sunday night after the Yankees 5-2, series clinching win over the Angels.

Our View:

Sabathia was 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA in his two starts and allowed just 12 base runners in 16 innings. He struck out 12 against three walks and was far too much for the Halos to handle. Expect the fireballing lefty to take the mound in Game 1 of the World Series.

October 20, 2009

CC Sabathia only surrendered one earned run on five hits over eight innings in Tuesday's 10-1 win at the Angels in Game 4 of the ALCS. He had two walks with five strikeouts.

Our View:

Sabathia dominated while pitching on short rest, and the Yankees are now one game away from the World Series with a 3-1 lead. A.J. Burnett will try to end the Angels' season Thursday in Game 5.
