Catcher Paul Phillips has signed a one-year contract to stay with the Rockies, according to the Denver Post.
It's a minor league contract that will pay him $450,000 if he's added to the major league roster. Chris Iannetta will be the Rockies starter in 2010.
Paul Phillips has been designated for assignment by the Rockies, according to MLB.com.
The Rockies were forced to designate the .325 hitting Phillips because of the return of Yorvit Torrelba from the restricted list. Phillips is unlikely to clear waivers, and has probably played his last game for the Rockies.
Paul Phillips went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in the Rockies' 7-2 drubbing of the Cardinals on Sunday.
This was the first big offensive outburst for Phillips this season. He owns a .364 average, but holds little fantasy value as he's only accrued 22 at-bats in 2009. He's filling in for injured starter Chris Iannetta.
Paul Phillips will be called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace Chris Iannetta, who will be placed on the 15-day DL, according to the Denver Post. Phillips will back up Yorvit Torrealba.
No fantasy value for Phillips, as he will most likely not see much time playing behind Torrealba. Phillips has been pretty good in Triple-A, but he has no fantasy value and won't in the near future.
Paul Phillips was 2-for-3 and hit his first home run of the spring on Saturday.
If Phillips makes the big club he would be a backup at best, and therefore commands no fantasy value.
