Adam McCalvy is reporting on his Twitter Page that David Riske will undergo Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow. Riske will miss the rest of the 2009 season and possibly some of the 2010 season while recovering.
Riske could have had the surgery a few weeks ago, but he decided to hold off for a second opinion. He would have had a much better chance of being able to return for Spring Training if he hadn't waited, but now he will be pushing it for next year. He should not be owned in any league at this point.
MLBlogs.com reports that Brewers reliever David Riske will likely require elbow surgery that will end his season.
Riske suffered a setback in his rehab and will need reconstructive surgery. He has been on the DL since the second week of April with elbow soreness and now looks like he won't throw another pitch for the Brewers in 2009. His rehab was supposed to strengthen the joint and get him back on the mound, but it looks like it had adverse effects instead.
David Riske is set to report to extended spring training in Arizona to get some action, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He has been on the shelf since mid-April with right elbow tightness.
He will make his first appearance Friday, and the Brewers want to see if he can return to the majors without needing surgery.
David Riske has started throwing off a mound and could begin a rehab assignment soon, according to MLB.com. He has been recovering from tightness in his right elbow.
Riske threw 30 pitches during a bullpen session on Saturday and is slated to throw again on Tuesday in Houston. He was encouraged by the session, and was surprised at how good his arm felt.
The Journal Sentinel reveals that ligaments in David Riske's are loose and that he may have to undergo Tommy John surgery. He will try and strengthen the elbow over the next month to see if it improves.
Riske is 32 and the surgery would likely rob him of most of next season as well. He appeared in just one game this season and gave up two runs in one inning of work.
David Riske was placed on the 15-day DL on Thursday, retroactive to April 10, with tightness in his right elbow, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Riske is coming off right elbow surgery from September and allowed four hits and two runs in his one appearance this year, April 9 against San Francisco. R.J. Swindle was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to fill Riske's spot in the bullpen.
David Riske, who is coming off right elbow surgery, is slated to throw a simulated game against minor leaguers today, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Riske is on schedule in his recovery. If healthy, Riske will have a shot to push for the setup role, giving him some value for deeper leagues.
David Riske, who underwent elbow surgery in the offseason and threw live batting practice on Monday, is scheduled to do so again on Thursday, after which he could be cleared for in-game action, according to MLB.com.
This is great news for Riske and the Brewers. He was ineffective in Milwaukee last season but was clearly pitching at less than full strength and posted a 2.45 ERA with Kansas City the year before.
