November 26, 2009

MLBlogs.com is reporting that free agent catcher Rod Barajas is unlikely to return to the Blue Jays next season. The team still plans to offer arbitration, but it appears as if there is outside interest from teams willing to give him a multi-year deal.

Our View:

GM Alex Anthopoulos didn't sound confident that the team would be able to bring Barajas back, so it looks like he might find a new home next year. He won't be much of a fantasy contributor, but apparently there are teams who like him enough to offer a multi-year deal.

November 9, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that Blue Jays' catcher Rod Barajas has filed for free agency. Barajas is interested in returning to the team next season, and the Jays have also expressed some interest in bringing him back.

Our View:

The Jays may try to upgrade at the position in the offseason, but Barajas will certainly be on their radar. He played in 125 games wth the team last season, and he hit .226 with 19 homers and 71 RBI.

September 27, 2009

Rod Barajas doubled in the game-winning run in the eighth inning on Sunday, as Toronto beat Seattle 5-4 at home.

Our View:

After batting .252 before the All-Star break, Barajas has hit just .201 since. He isn't expected to be back with the Jays in 2010.

September 11, 2009

Blue Jays manager Cito Gatson insinuated on Thursday that starting catcher Rod Barajas will not be back with the team in 2010, according to Toronto Sun.

Our View:

Barajas has played well in 2009, batting .238 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI, but the Jays have a few young catchers in the pipeline, and not bringing back the 34-year-old Barajas would surely save some money.

August 26, 2009

Rod Barajas went 1-for-1 with a solo homer off J.P. Howell in tonight's 3-2 win over the Rays at the Rogers Centre.

Our View:

He entered the game in the bottom of the ninth as a pinch-hitter to help lead Toronto to a win. Barajas hit a homer in two of his last three games, and has four this month.

August 24, 2009

Rod Barajas was productive in tonight's 12-7 loss to the Rays at the Rogers Centre, as he went 2-for-4 with four RBI. He hit a single and a grand slam off Jeff Niemann.

Our View:

Barajas hit his 12th homer, topping his season output of 2008. He was in need of a solid performance, as he was only batting .157 this month heading into tonight's game.

July 19, 2009

Rod Barajas drove in all three Toronto runs on Sunday, giving Roy Halladay all the offense he'd need, as the Blue Jays cruised to a 3-1 victory.

Our View:

Barajas is having a career year offensively, and is a good option at catcher in every format.

June 29, 2009

Rod Barajas went 1-for-3 with a single, and recorded the Jays' lone RBI in tonight's 4-1 loss to the Rays at the Rogers Centre.

Our View:

Barajas was not hindered by his strained hamstring, and should be safe for fantasy duty if he is a regular contributor to your team.

June 29, 2009

Rod Barajas is back in the Royals' lineup tonight against Minnesota, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

This is good news, as he avoided a trip to the DL with his strained hamstring. He will play every other day at catcher while rotating with Raul Chavez.

June 28, 2009

According to MLB.com, Rod Barajas expects to know by Monday whether his strained hamstring will land him on the disabled list or not.

Our View:

Barajas plans to test his ailing hammy with some running drills on Sunday and should have a good grasp after that of whether it's healing or not. Apparently the injury doesn't affect his ability catch or hit, but running is a problem. Stay tuned.

June 27, 2009

According to MLBlogs.com, Rod Barajas will not go on the disabled list despite earlier reports that expressed the contrary.

Our View:

Barajas told the Jays that his ankle was much improved on Saturday morning and the team felt that a DL stint wasn't necessary. Consider him day-to-day for now.

June 26, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Rod Barajas has been placed on the 15-day DL after straining his right hamstring in tonight's battle with Philadelphia, according to the Associated Press. Kyle Phillips was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View:

Raul Chavez will handle the bulk of the workload behind the plate while Barajas is on the shelf.

Our View:

He was replaced at catcher by Raul Chavez. The severity of Barajas' ailment is yet to be determined.

June 21, 2009

According to the Toronto Sun, Rod Barajas sat out of Saturday's contest with tightness in his hamstring. He was replaced by Raul Chavez.

Our View:

The injury doesn't seem serious and the team appears to just be taking precautionary measures. Manager Cito Gaston had this to say, "we're just giving him the night off and see if he can play (today). It's not that he can't play. I figure if I rest him tonight, maybe it'll be okay (today)."

June 19, 2009

Rod Barajas went 1-for-4 with a single and recorded the Jays' lone RBI in Friday's 2-1 loss at Washington.

Our View:

Barajas has a four-game hitting streak, with five RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy leagues while he is hot.

April 22, 2009

Rod Barajas had a big day at the dish on Wednesday, going 2-for-5 with two home runs, two runs, and four RBI. He raised his average to .233 on the season.

Our View:

This was a rare home run outburst for Barajas, who is not known for his offense. Don't expect many of these performances as he is primarily in the lineup for his defense.
