Scott Linebrink is being demoted from his setup role with the Sox, according to MLB.com. Linebrink has been struggling as of late, and skipper Ozzie Guillen said, "It is just because I want him to relax a little bit more, do not feel like every time he is on the spot, 'Oh my God, I have got to throw the ball well."
The Sox are trying to get Linebrink back on track, and he is not worth using in fantasy leagues that award points for holds right now. Octavio Dotel and Tony Pena will be considered for the setup role, as well as D.J. Carrasco.
Scott Linebrink has resumed throwing for the first time in the off-season Thursday since suffering from shoulder inflammation, according to the Chicago Tribune. He said, "Rest was the biggest thing. It was not something I was going to work through. From the middle of October to the end of December, I did not pick up a baseball. Flexibility always has been an issue with me. I have to do everything I can to make sure I have good range of motion and sound mechanics."
He is progressing at a steady pace, and could regain his status as a solid setup man in 2009 if healthy.
