Jose Molina will be behind the plate in Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday. Molina will catch AJ Burnett, as he has done throughout the postseason.

Our View:

Burnett needs to deliver a win for the Yanks tonight, so the team wants him to be comfortable with his battery mate. Molina takes over for Jorge Posada as the backstop, so he has big shoes to fill.

October 17, 2009

MLB.com reports that catcher Jose Molina will get the start behind the plate for Game 2 of the ALCS.

Our View:

A.J. Burnett will be on the mound and he has been partial to Molina this season. The same situation occurred in the ALDS against the Twins, and Jorge Posada was more that a little put off. Looks like Burnett is specifically requesting Molina. No word on Posada's feelings this time around.

July 8, 2009

According to ESPN.com, the Yankees have activated backup catcher Jose Molina from the disabled list.

Our View:

Molina has been out since May 7th with a bum quad, but will get the start on Friday. He's hitting .273 with a homer and six RBI in 16 games this season. To make room the Yanks sent prospect Francisco Cervelli to Triple-A.

July 7, 2009

According to MLB.com, Yankees' catcher Jose Molina served as the DH in his rehab start in Double-A on Monday. Molina is expected to catch Tuesday, and he will be reevaluated by the team after that start.

Our View:

If Molina passes the test On Tuesday, the team hopes he will be ready to be activated on Wednesday in Minnesota. He is expected to resume his role as the backup to Jorge Posada, and he should not be viewed as a fantasy option.

July 6, 2009

Jose Molina will work in at least two more rehab games with Double-A Trenton, according to the Journal News. He has been recovering from a strained left quadriceps.

Our View:

When Molina is ready to return to New York, his fantasy value will be limited as a backup catcher as long as Jorge Posada remains intact.

July 3, 2009

According to the Journal News, Yankees' catcher Jose Molina went 0-for-2 with an RBI in his frst rehab game in Triple-A Scranton. Molina caught five innings, and he is scheduled to play five again in his next game.

Our View:

The Yankees believe that Molina may be ready to rejoin the team as early as next Tuesday, but it will depend on how his rehab goes. Even if he can't come back Tuesday, he should be back by the end of the week. He will still have no fantasy value, as he will struggle for playing time.

July 2, 2009

The Journal News reports that Jose Molina will begin a rehab assignment on Friday.

Our View:

Molina has been out since May 8th with a torn left quad and will likely need several rehab games before he's ready to return to backup catching duties for the Yankees. Expect him back some time in the next two weeks.

June 29, 2009

According to the Journal News, Yankees' catcher Jose Molina was on the field four hours before the game on Sunday doing baserunning and throwing drills to test out his sore quad. Molina is expected to repeat those drills on Monday, and the team will decide then if he is ready for a rehab assignment.

Our View:

You may be thinking that four hours seems pretty excessive for baserunning and throwing drills, but you have to remember that it probably took Molina at least an hour to actually make one lap around the bases. He looks to be feeling better, so expect his rehab assignment to begin some time in the next week or so.

June 8, 2009

The Journal News is reporting that Yankees' catcher Jose Molina took batting practice on Sunday. Molina is trying to return from a strained right quad injury.

Our View:

Molina was close to returning last week, but he suffered a setback in his recovery. The fact that he is taking batting practice is a good sign, but he will still be out for several weeks. He holds very little fantasy value as a backup catcher for the Yanks.

June 1, 2009

Jose Molina has suffered a setback in his recovery from a strained left quadriceps, according to MLB.com. He felt another twinge in his ailing quadriceps after recording a hit in an extended spring training game and had to be removed.

Our View:

He is slated to be re-evaluated by the Yankees' medical team. Molina was nearing his return to New York, and it remains to be determined how long his setback will delay him.

May 30, 2009

Jose Molina, who is recovering from a strained left quadriceps, caught three innings in an extended spring training game Saturday in Florida, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:

The Yankees are optimistic Molina will be ready to return to duty in around a week, and skipper Joe Girardi does not believe he needs a lot of work.

May 29, 2009

According to the Associated Press, Jose Molina got seven plate appearances in a simulated game on Friday.

Our View:

Molina is scheduled to play in the field for the first time on Saturday and will catch three innings. The backup catcher is apparently getting close to returning.

May 25, 2009

Jose Molina participated in a running session Monday, according to the Associated Press. He is recovering from a strained left quad.

Our View:

Molina could return to the Yankees in early June. Jorge Posada is expected to come back first, meaning Molina will serve as the No. 2 catcher upon his return.

May 8, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Jose Molina has been placed on the 15-day DL with his strained left quad, according to MLB.com. The club recalled catcher Kevin Cash from Triple-A as the adjoining move.

Our View:

This is a tough loss for the 13-15 Yankees, as they already have catcher Jorge Posada on the DL. Kevin Cash and Francisco Cervelli will handle the role behind the plate. GM Brian Cashman is hoping Molina can return in two weeks.

May 8, 2009

Jose Molina was sent for an MRI after straining his left quad during Thursday's outing with the Rays, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:

There is belief that Molina could land on the DL with the ailment, which is bad news since Jorge Posada is already on the shelf. Kevin Cash would be the top candidate to start at catcher if needed.

May 7, 2009

Jose Molina left Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Rays with a strained quad, according to the AP. He was replaced by the Yankees only other available catcher on their 40-man roster, Francisco Cervelli.

Our View:

With Jorge Posada already on the DL, Molina's injury is terrible news for the struggling Yankees.

April 14, 2009

Jose Molina got the start for the Yankees tonight, according to MLB.com. He will be catching A.J. Burnett for the second straight game.

Our View:

Molina looks to be the regular catcher for Burnett. Expect him to be in the lineup when A.J. starts from now on. To make room, Jorge Posada was moved to DH and Hideki Matsui took the day off.
