Toronto Blue Jays' beat writer Jordan Bastian is reporting on Twitter that the team will announce their signing of infielder John McDonald on Wednesday. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed at this time.
McDonald is a prototypical utility infielder, and he will begin his sixth season with the team in 2010. He isn't likely to hold much fantasy value this year, as he is known more for his glove than his bat.
According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse on Twitter, the Blue Jays are expected to re-sign infielder John McDonald to a deal worth $1.5 million.
McDonald is a good glove man and has spent the last five seasons with the Jays, so it's not surprising that they want to keep him around. The 34-year-old could see plenty of playing time behind injury-prone third baseman Edwin Encarnacion or take over at short if the Jays don't sign another free agent.
The Orioles are believed to be interested in free agent infielder John McDonald, according to Bob Elliott's (Toronto Sun) twitter page.
The 35-year-old vet hit .258 with Toronto this season, and is viewed as a cheap depth option for the Orioles if they decide not to exercise Melvin Mora's $8MM option for 2010.
John McDonald went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Twins at the Rogers Centre. He hit two singles and a three-run homer off Jon Rauch.
McDonald was in need of a solid performance, as he was hitting 2-for-16 (.125) over six games this month heading into tonight.
