Carlyle is attempting a comeback after being diagnosed with type one diabetes in May. He had been pitching dreadfully, and losing an abnormal amount of weight at the time he went on the disabled list. He also had an 8.84 ERA in 19.1 innings at the time he went out, but posted a much better 3.59 one in 45 appearances in 2008, so as long as he's healthy, he could be an asset in Atlanta's 'pen.

Carlyle is needed because the Braves are not sure if Jorge Campillo (who has blisters on two fingers on his pitching hand) will be able to make his next scheduled start on Thursday against the Brewers. Carlyle made 20 starts for Atlanta in 2007, and went 8-7 with a 5.21 ERA. He could make a spot start, but does not merit fantasy consideration.

Carlyle walked off the field with the help of trainers and was replaced by Jorge Campillo. The Braves' pitching staff is seeminly cursed this season, as Carlyle was already filling in for starter Jo-Jo Reyes when he was forced to exit early due to an apparent finger blister.
