Buddy Carlyle has been activated from the disabled list.
Carlyle hasn't pitched in the major leagues since being diagnosed with type one diabetes in May. With a career 5.58 ERA in 243.2 innings, don't expect great things.
Buddy Carlyle began a rehab assignment in Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, according to
Carlyle is attempting a comeback after being diagnosed with type one diabetes in May. He had been pitching dreadfully, and losing an abnormal amount of weight at the time he went on the disabled list. He also had an 8.84 ERA in 19.1 innings at the time he went out, but posted a much better 3.59 one in 45 appearances in 2008, so as long as he's healthy, he could be an asset in Atlanta's 'pen.
The Braves are experiencing a surplus of pitching, which means they may be willing to part ways with several hurlers to get a deal done, including reliever Buddy Carlyle, according to the
In addition to Carlyle, who is expected to fill the role of long reliever/spot starter in Atlanta this season, Jorge Campillo and Jeff Bennett have also been mentioned as possible trade bait.
The Braves have activated reliever Buddy Carlyle from the DL, according to the
Carlyle is needed because the Braves are not sure if Jorge Campillo (who has blisters on two fingers on his pitching hand) will be able to make his next scheduled start on Thursday against the Brewers. Carlyle made 20 starts for Atlanta in 2007, and went 8-7 with a 5.21 ERA. He could make a spot start, but does not merit fantasy consideration.
Buddy Carlyle was forced out of action against San Diego due to an apparent head injury, according to the
Carlyle walked off the field with the help of trainers and was replaced by Jorge Campillo. The Braves' pitching staff is seeminly cursed this season, as Carlyle was already filling in for starter Jo-Jo Reyes when he was forced to exit early due to an apparent finger blister.
