White Sox's beat writer Scott Merkin is reporting on Twitter that DeWayne Wise has declared for free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A.
Wise is best remembered for his perfect game-saving catch to preserve Mark Buehrle's historic outing, but his season was a major disappointment outside of that. He has the tools, but he needs to put it together at the plate in addition to staying healthy.
DeWayne Wise went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in today's 5-1 loss at Cleveland. This was the opener of their doubleheader.
The Sox only mustered six hits in the game, and Wise was their lone source of scoring. Wise has a hit in three straight games, and an RBI in each of his last two.
MLB.com is reporting that the White Sox have recalled DeWayne Wise, Tyler Flowers, Chris Getz, Josh Fields, and Carlos Torres from the minors. Wise and Getz are both coming off a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte.
Four of the five players have seen significant time with the big club this season, and they will probably see time over the last month as well. Flowers, the team's top catching prospect, figures to get plenty of opportunity as well.
According to MLB.com, rehabbing White Sox's players DeWayne Wise and Chris Getz will rejoin the team when rosters expand on Tuesday. Both players are currently on rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte.
This makes sense, considering the team can wait one day and save the headache of corresponding roster moves. Both players should be back on Tuesday, and both will have to fight for playing time when they return.
MLB.com is reporting that White Sox's outfielder DeWayne Wise is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday for Triple-A Charlotte. Wise has been on the DL since August 18 with a strained AC joint in his right shoulder.
Wise has struggled with injuries all season, but it looks like he will be ready to return to the team early in September. He will have to fight for playing time when he returns, and he doesn't figure to make much of any impact this season.
DeWayne Wise has been placed on the 15-day DL with a strained joint in his right shoulder, according to TSN. Pitcher Freddy Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte as the adjoining move.
Wise has the tools to develop into a solid starting outfielder in the majors, but is only batting .200 with Chicago right now, meaning he won't be missed in fantasy leagues while on the shelf.
DeWayne Wise hit his first home run of the season on Sunday in the White Sox' 10-2 loss to the Orioles. Wise went 1-for-3 with the solo shot.
Wise has struggled badly since coming off the DL late in June, and his average is currently sitting at .196 on the season. He has been better as of late, and manager Ozzie Guillen seems intent on getting him in the lineup. With an average under .200 and only one home run, he is far from a major offensive threat, however.
According to the Chicago Tribune, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters on Wednesday that people need to be more patient with DeWayne Wise, who has gone 0-for-8 since coming off of the disabled list last Friday.
The response came to the question of why the Sox are starting Wise over Brian Anderson. Wise is hitting just .172 with no home runs or RBIs in 12 games for the White Sox this season, while Anderson is batting .269 through 32 games. At this point, we don't really know either, but Ozzie seems to be right more often than not. Wise currently has no fantasy value, though.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the White Sox have activated outfielder DeWayne Wise from the DL. Wise has been out since April with a separated shoulder. He will replace Carlos Quentin on the roster, who was placed on the 15-day DL today.
Wise should get some playing time in the Sox' outfield, but he is a below average hitter who should not garner any fantasy interest. He was hitting .238 at the time of his injury.
DeWayne Wise continues to rehab from his separated right shoulder, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
He was hitting in the batting cage prior to Monday's game against Toronto, but it is uncertain when Wise will be ready to start a minor league rehab assignment. He is hoping he will be able to begin in 7-10 days. He noted that everything has healed, but the team is just trying to find a comfort zone for him to play.
DeWayne Wise is progressing in his recovery from a separated right shoulder but is still dealing with some tightness, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He is fielding fly balls in the outfield and hitting in the batting cage as part of his rehab work.
Wise won't likely be ready to start a rehab assignment for another three weeks, which means he would not return to the Sox until at least early June.
Outfielder DeWayne Wise is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a separated right shoulder. He suffered the injury on April 13 and was slated to miss four-to-six weeks. "I should be able to take batting practice or maybe sometime during the (next) homestand," Wise informs the Chicago Tribune.
It sounds like Wise could be back by mid-May. He will have no problem taking his roster spot back from Jerry Owens, but Brian Anderson will have another couple weeks to state his case for regular time. Also, Wise is unlikely to return to the top of the batting order.
The Chicago Tribune reports that DeWayne Wise will be out from four to six weeks due to a separated shoulder. Jerry Owens will be recalled to replace him in center field, although Brian Anderson will likely see the majority of starts.
Wise was not doing much in terms of fantasy production and he will not likely be missed. He is hitting just .222 and averaging a strike out per game.
Updating an earlier report, DeWayne Wise suffered a separated shoulder when forced to exit today's game against the Tigers, according to the live broadcast on Comcast Chicago.
It is yet to be determined how much time Wise will need to miss. Brian Anderson will be the top candidate to replace him in center field. The club could also recall speed demon Jerry Owens from the minors.
DeWayne Wise exited Monday's game at Detroit in the fifth inning with an apparent injury. He fell awkwardly while making a great catch in center field, and may have hurt his shoulder.
We will keep you posted on his status. Brian Anderson replaced Wise in the outfield.
Despite striking out three times and failing to lay down an eighth inning bunt on two attempts, Ozzie Guillen will continue to bat DeWayne Wise at leadoff, according to MLB.com.
Wise has been a below average hitter throughout his career, and he won't stay at the top of the order if he continues to perform like this. The White Sox don't have much speed on their team, but Chris Getz or Alexei Ramirez could be other options.
DeWayne Wise is expected to start in center field and handle the leadoff role after the Sox waived Jerry Owens today, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Wise may not hit for a high average, but he has a nice combination of speed and power, and is worth targeting as a flier for AL-only leagues.
